This little book was full of excitement throughout!
When I first came to know that this book is written by an 11 YO, I was more than excited to read it. I was fortunate enough to get a review copy of it. I also decided that I'll be slightly lenient while reviewing it. Guess what? I realised there is no need: I will review it as I do any other book.
A book set in London and animals presented as humans is a very interesting concept. The plot felt strong to me and there is nothing like not-making-sense-to-me. Because, events happened for a reason and everything was executed in a perfect manner.
The storytelling is something I enjoyed immensely in this book. At times, the book also talks to you: which is something I like a lot. There were also a few instances which made ne laugh like an idiot.
Then the characters: at times I felt that these animal characters are so much better than many human characters I've read in books. It is quite difficult to imagine animals having a definite character of their own, but it was happening very smoothly in this book.
Overall, I feel that I saw multiple glimpses of some very well crafted books in this one book. Actually, it IS a very well crafted book.
I recommend this book to everyone who wants to read a great book. Special recommendation for the kids, for such a book will for sure develop creativity in them.

So what happens when the imagination of a 12 year old kid runs amok? The story of The Uncommon Detectives is born.
Sypnosis: Using London as the backdrop, this book entails the journey of budding detectives. They embark on a journey to unveil the heist of a precious stone by the most notorious criminals of London. Interestingly, all the characters are animals and birds. All the characters are portrayed as if they are human beings.
Review: Published by Partridge Publications, The Uncommon Detectives is a fun read. However, the writer is a 12 year old tween. So it is really targeted at young readers. The story entails a secret Mi6 like agency that stops crimes committed by animal criminals. It is a light read and written very well for an author as young as Mahijit. The 12 year old gives a better description than many other adult authors I have read and that is a mean feat. The vocabulary and the grasp over the English language is very strong.
Also, the story is well paced thus you fly through the pages enjoying it. Though it is a story that is written for young adults, I guess it can be read by people our age who are looking for a light read. The descriptions in The Uncommon Detectives are very visual and you can imagine the cute protagonist who is a puppy running around. Or create a picture of the mean cat who is the leader of the gang committing the theft.
The fact that Mahijit portrays the characters as humans is very endearing. Certainly I will be looking forward to what this little genius has in mind for the next book.

First of all congratulations to the new author Mahijit Bhatt for his debut novel The Uncommon Detectives.Thank you for the review copy.
The story starts with detectives trying to recover diamond from the notorious robber gang of London but fails to do despite giving them a hard chase.Using London as backdrop the author has woven a beautiful story where new recruits in the Detective agency try to fail the biggest heist plan by the infamous Norbert's gang.
The surprise element in the story is all the characters are animals and birds.They are treated on a par with humans. All the characters are well etched and the language used is simple.The storyline is good. I found the book quite engaging starting from the prologue till the end I didn't feel bored once. It is a
short read.
What I really liked about the book is the friendship of Nick, a golden spaniel and Francis, a black and white Siamese cat.The harmony shown between the various community convey a deep message irrespective of our differences we can still live in peace maintaining a friendly bond. This beautiful message coming through the pen of a 11 year old author really enthralls me.Keep writing such interesting and meaningful stories.
I would recommend it to children as well as adults as it will surely bring smile to your face.

This is a story authored by an 11 year old. That alone is enough to set anyone's curiosity up and about. And I'm glad to announce that it's worth all of it and more!
The Uncommon Detectives is set in London, starring a group of animals, some dogs here and some cats there and some doves, rats, and mice around...revolving around mystery of a robbery and the chase.
The narration is well framed and the story has a flow that most authors today have a hard time building up on. Easy to visualise, the creative ways the story is narrated is praise worthy. There is innocence, humour, suspense and even action in there! And that's what I like the most about the story.
The imagination, and the potential this 11 year old has is absolutely commendable!
All in all, this one here is refreshing and enjoyable for adults and children alike.
Took me just 70 minutes to finish.
5/5 and a must, must read! .

This book is just amazing. I started reading it and was completely taken by the story. So the book starts in the lanes of London where a theft scene is being depicted. As we turn pages we find out that the author has a different level of imagination by which I was totally amazed. The author is just 11 years old. Yes ladies and gentlemen just 11 years and he has such deep thinking. This makes me so happy. All the characters are animals and the bond that they share with each other is do die for. Their harmony and team work must be learnt by us. The title is apt for the story and never distracts from what it has been written for. Totally in love with the book. The main reason is that I have a niece and I know, if and when, I read out this book to her she is definitely going to learn a lot from it and hence love it.

The story is an amazing piece of imagination by the youngest published writer I know. For me, the author being only 11 year old was the most attractive feature of the book. The cover is indeed a very smart one as it depicts the main idea of the entire plot, i.e. London, cats and the jewel. On reading the story one can easily make out the high level of artistry and thoughtfulness of the writer.The first person narrative makes it very easy to understand . I thought that the prologue was quite long. The gadgets of the detectives and thieves made it more engaging. Their weapons and technologies always left me with a 'wow' . I wished the novel was a little more longer. It ended out like a movie scene and I hope to read the sequel soon. Anyhow, it was a merry read. The novel was short and sweet. I wish Mahijit a lot of luck and a very bright future.

It is amazing that this book has been written by a child! The language used in this book is excellent! It is a delightful story and makes for entertaining reading.
