The Yuletide season brings something trs magnifique to Austin, Texas, in the form of sexy French entrepreneur Amersen Beaudin. The sexy but standoffish playboy has zero interest in meeting his newly discovered Fortune relatives, least of all the man who is his biological father. But when matriarch Kate Fortune dangles an all-too-attractive business proposition, he is too intrigued to stay away. And once he meets Kate's beautiful gardener, Robin Harbin, he starts to rethink his holiday plans...
A spicy affair with the blonde, blue-eyed Texan is now at the top of Amersen's wish list. But all Robin wants for Christmas is the flirty Parisian's heart and soul. Can she convince him that love--and family--can lead to a joyeux No'l?
About Helen Helen Lacey grew up reading Black Beauty, Anne of Green Gables and Little House on The Prairie. These childhood classics inspired her to write her first book when she was seven years old, a story about a girl and her horse. Although, it wasn’t until the age of eleven when she read her first Mills & Boon, that she knew wanted to write romances. Her parents’ love of travel meant she saw much of the world in those early years and she feels fortunate to have had a diverse and interesting education over several continents.
She continued to write into her teens and twenties with the dream of one day being a published author. A few years and careers later, including motel operator, florist, strapper, dog washer, and retail manager, she got the call from Harlequin Special Edition. She loves writing about tortured heroes, both cowboys and CEO’s, and heroines who finally get the love of the man of their dreams.
From Welsh parents and a large family, she lives on the east coast of Australia in a small seaside town at the southern most point of The Great Barrier Reef, with her wonderfully supportive husband, many horses, two cats and three spoiled dogs.
Wealthy French entrepreneur (winemaker, popular blogger, nightclub owner) Amersen Beaudin (who is 25) comes to Austin, Texas, from France to meet Kate Fortune (rich family matriarch and powerhouse behind Fortune Cosmetics) to discuss a deal with her. He is also one of the illegitimate children of Gerald Robinson/Jerome Fortune (computer giant). He hasn’t met any of his family (or Gerald) yet who live in Texas while he is there, and he doesn’t plan to. He just wants to talk to Kate and get back to France. But when he meets lovely Robin Harbin (24), Kate’s gardener, he suddenly has a hard time wanting to leave…
This was an average read. I liked the heroine Robin, she was nice and sweet. She just broke up with her boyfriend because he was two-timing her so she wasn’t really interested in having a relationship. But she eventually changed her mind after meeting Amersen. I didn’t care much for the hero, Amersen. He came across as conceited at times, and I got tired of hearing about how many women he slept with in the past. I did think the part was cute, though, when Amersen gave Robin a pumpkin and a pair of glass slippers. I liked how Robin and Amersen enjoyed old movies and I liked when Robin took Amersen to the movie theater to see “It’s A Wonderful Life”. This book took place around Christmastime in Austin, Texas.
4 - "I knew I loved you the first moment I saw you…" Stars!
I am having a stellar run on Mills & Boon Seasonal titles at the moment, and Helen Lacey’s; A Fortune’s Texas Christmas, is definitely another one to add to the list.
Easy reading, great characters, low drama, and having just had a look, a wealth of other books to look at reading from the Fortune family in the future.

Let's begin with why the one star was taken off. The characters are only 25 and 24 years of age and yet the story shows they have reached the pinnacle of success already. That somehow does not ring true because this is the age where one starts ascending the career ladder towards success because you just finished university!
But if I ignored that fact completely, which I plan to as I concentrate on the story itself, it was frought with emotions.
Love at first sight is something I have always discounted (I sort of still do) but the way it was portrayed in this book was breathtaking. The best part? Love at first sight happened only for one in the equation.
Besides that, it talks about the importance of communication in a relationship which struck a cord. Seeing that someone actually makes an effort and listens (not only hear) to what you say is such an aphrodisiac (at least for me).
Those small moments that are usually seen as insignificant are the real building blocks of any and every relationship and that is very well portrayed in this story.
This one brought me so many smiles and pleased the romantic in me.
A Fortunes Of Texas Christmas is the first book in the Fortunes of Texas series by Helen Lacey.
From the moment that our hero French entrepreneur Amersen Beaudin spots gardener, Robin Harbin dressed in a beautiful white dress walking through her bosses garden he is in lust. Even without seeing her face he believes she is a woman he could happily get to know much better. From that moment too, I realised I was going to really enjoy this book.
Amerson is one of many illegitimate children of the Fortune family and it is the matriarch of that family who Robin works for and who is offering a great money-making possibility to him. It is that offer that brings him from France to Texas. He quietly wants to see his 'other' family too, but he will move on that notion when and if he is ready. In the meantime, he is happy to give the money-making idea some thought, but to him, more importantly, he wants to get to know Robin much better.
Amerson's reputation as a playboy doesn't impress Robin. Despite the fact that it is very much lust at first sight for her as well as him she has been hurt in love before and thinks she should give Amerson's type a wide berth. Can he convince her to give in to her feelings, and more importantly can he stop doing what he never dreamed he would do, fall for the Texan beauty.
I enjoyed this story a lot because not only did we have the passionate romance budding between Amerson and Robin but there was also the moving back story about Amerson coming to terms with who his real father is, and getting to grips with having such a big family including other illegitimate siblings.
The relationships were believable and I loved watching everything come together. There was never a dull moment and I loved the whole Fortune family. I am really glad I had the opportunity to read this book and am happy to recommend it.
Amersen Beaudin a French entrepreneur comes to Texas to strike a deal for a perfume add, but little did he know that he would fall in love with the Robin Harbin. Who’s is the head Gardner for the Kate Fortune who proposed the perfume proposition. Amersen pretty much has daddy issues because Kate Fortune is also his half sister and the part of Texas he’s in is also where his other half siblings live because his father was a married man who couldn’t keep his hands off other women. A Fortune of Texas Christmas was honestly the wrong title for this book. Yes Robin is from Texas but where’s the Texas appeal or the Christmas spirit. The book was just average honestly.
Amersen is in Texas for business. He has a meeting with the matriarch of the Fortune clan. What he doesn't expect is to be acknowledged for who he is...a Fortune by blood. Expecting to be in and out in twenty four hours, Amersen finds he's drawn to the stunning Robin, the Fortune gardener. Now, he's willing to stick around in Texas to spend more time with Robin. But is he willing to commit to a forever relationship or cut and run when he's had his full of the Texan belle? Ms. Lacey's previous book failed to impress me; however I can confidently say that A Fortunes of Texas Christmas hits all the right notes. The writing is flawless and the quirky characters leap off the page. Meld that with witty dialogue, descriptive narrative and a touch of French flair and you have a Hallmark perfect Christmas romance!
When Amersen learns about his biological father and siblings. He doesnt want to have anything to do with them. He is perfectly happy living his life. When he gets a call from Kate the matriach of the Fortunes. He reluctantly heads to Texas. When he bumps into Robin in the Fortunes gardens. Its lust at first sight. Along with a business propositon Amersen decides to stick around a while. Can a parisian playboy find his happily ever after? Or will Robin just be a temporary fling? I love Helen Laceys style of writing. She knows how to spin you a story that will keep you hooked. Highly recommended for fans of contemporay romance.
This one sizzles from page one, at the first sighting of the heroine by the hero, in a garden, as far as our hero is concerned she is a vision, an angle in white and he is determined to get to know her and when he does what a ride they go on, this one had me turning the pages MS Lacey knows how to bring her characters to life.
Amersen Beaudin wealthy owner of a Paris night club and a winery, has arrived in Austin Texas from his homeland of Paris to speak to the matriarch of the Fortunes family Kate, about a business deal, but there are ties to this family that the strong always going to be single Amersen wants to keep to himself and he has no intention of getting to know this family well, but things can change when Kate makes him an offer too good to refuse and when he finally meets his angel beautiful gardener Robin Harbin his life takes a big turnaround.
Robin has been through a rough break-up from the guy she thought she loved and has thrown herself into her work on the Fortunes Ranch as gardener no going out just staying close to her parents and home, but when she meets the arrogant Frenchman, she sets out to put him in his place, but this leads to a sizzling affair but Robin wants all from him not just a fling and she is nothing but strong and determined to get her own way.
Really this is a wonderful story a gorgeous Frenchman, a beautiful Texan girl, Christmas time and Robin’s favourite colour is purple what more could a romance reader want and yes this one sizzles it is sensual and moving as Robin helps Amersen finally get to know his Texan family. Yes I was exhaling and beaming throughout this story and I can highly recommend it MS Lacey you have done it again another story for the keeper shelf.
Sparks fly and tension mounts as temptation arrives on her doorstep! A great continuation to the Fortunes of Texas series. If you've read any of these books previously, you know the premise ... and more illegitimate siblings are coming out of the woodwork every time we turn around. The characters were enticing and kept us entertained as their story played out. The plot was fun and fast moving. The only downside of this delightful book for me was the haste in which they reached their happily ever after ... overall, a real pleasure to read!
Frenchman Amersen Beaudin has no interest in meeting his newly found Fortune family, but when Kate Fortune contacts him for a seemingly unrelated business venture, he is intrigued enough to make the trip to Austin, Texas to see what she has in mind. He's planning a quick in and out visit so he doesn't run into any of his half siblings who have been reaching out to him, but the second he sets eyes on the vision in white outside Kate's home, he might be rethinking the rush!
Gardener Robin Harbin might be attracted at first glance to the handsome visitor, but the last thing she needs is another womanizing man! She can tell he's interested by his heated perusal, but there's no way she will allow herself to be interested in this playboy! She finds he's persistent though, and after a few times spent getting to know the man beneath the exterior, she finds she likes him way more than she should ... can she convince him that love isn't as bad as he seems to think it is?
Kate Fortune dangles an all too good business proposition to Amersen Beaudin and it is way to much for him to stay away. Once he meets Kate’s beautiful gardener he is rethinking holiday plans.
Amersen owns a Paris nightclub and a winery and now Kate has another business deal for him. Can he pass up on one that is almost too good to believe?
The beautiful gardener that Amersen saw and could not get out of his mind is Robin Harbin. He arrives at Kate’s and sees a beautiful goddess in the gardens. She was walking across the garden wearing a long white dress that seemed to float with her as she moved. Her face was shielded by a wide-brimmed floppy white hat.
A wonderful author, Helen Lacey has created the perfect love story and at Christmas time with the Frenchman and a beautiful Texas girl.
Amersen does not do long term, he prefers a short fling so that it never gets long term. However Robin prefers the long term and commitment. Will that ever work out to find that happy balance between the two?
A wonderful romance from an author that never fails to give you the best. Amersen Beaudin comes from his home in Paris to see what business proposition it is that Kate Fortune has for him. He has an alterior motive as he also wants to find out about his newly discovered biological father. Simple come see what Kate has to offer , find out about his biological father then go back to Paris. Sounds great but he meets gardener Robin Harbin and all bets are off. Its an instant attraction but she is holding back after being hurt by her last relationship. Ms. Lacey pulls out all the stops with so many ways Amersen tries to get a date with Robin you will find yourself smiling and no spoilers but the pumpkin made me laugh . Truly a story that I loved from the first page. even though its a part of the "Fortunes of Texas" series it can be read alone, so don't miss it. On my keeper shelf.
I really, really enjoy Helen's style of writing and the characters she pairs up together. I dont know how to explain it except to say my fave books are the Presents style and characters and then I'll pick up Helen's story and enjoy just as much because there's depth in the plot, there's wonderful imagery, fantastic dialogue and there's just a beautiful feel when the story shapes up.
Helen also writes wonderfully linked stories (ie, Cedar River) and I suspect the Fortunes of Texas will be just the same worderful world she invents.
This is the first book that I have read by Helen and I have to say that I really enjoyed reading it. There's hot chemistry between them that you can feel it sizzle of the page's along with great characters and twist and turns. Amersen is a play boy and doesn't do commitment where as Robin is all about long term and commitment, how will this work out between them, will there be heartache and disappointment at the end for Robin. I definitely recommend you read this book as it is so well written and worth reading.
"A Fortunes of Texas Christmas (The Fortunes of Texas)" by Helen Lacey is part of her series, but this can be a read alone book. I really enjoy this whole series, and I am a fan of the author, so I highly recommend this book. Playboy meets the sexy, but down to earth, gardener. He is looking for a good time, and she isn't. The chemistry between Amersen and Robin is there, but while Amersen is standoffish Robin is exactly what he needs. A true contemporary romance. Loved it.
The Fortunes are always a great family to revisit. One never knows who is going to come out of the woodwork next. This is Amerson Beaudoin's story to tell. He is bitter and full of anger. Amerson is from France and a business man with quite the reputation. He lets himself feel nothing. That way he doesn't hurt. Then he goes to Texas on business and meets Robin Hardin. He doesn't know what to do. I loved every minute of this story and you will too.
A French entrepreneur learns he is the son of the famous Fortune family. Although determined not to be seen as a part of the family he becomes involved when offered the chance to be the face of a new product. An enjoyable read. I was given this book by Netgalley and the publisher. This is my voluntary and impartial review.
When playboy entrepreneur Amerson turns up from France to see meet his new relatives, he doesn't expect to meet and fall in love with the Fortune's gardener Robin. A lovely small town story with characters who have a lot of heart.
Haven't read it yet but it has been made into a tv movie on uptv channel... called christmas in paris.... from what I gather from the reviews it been tweaked quite a bit.
"Lacey’s latest Fortunes of Texas tale is sweet with a bit of heat and is all about following your heart no matter what your head is saying. Her couple may seem like total opposites, but this outspoken woman and smooth-talking Frenchman are really well suited and refreshingly unpretentious. With a fantastic fast-paced narrative, a mini Austin sightseeing tour, terrific costars and minimum drama, A Fortunes of Texas Christmas is a real page-turner. Although the ending feels a bit rushed, this is still a wonderfully festive holiday read" (4 stars @ RT Book Reviews).
