This is my first book read by this author. I seriously am in need of recommendations as to what to try next out of her library. This story does start off a bit creepy and off putting to be honest and I wasn’t sure at the beginning if this was going to be for me. Yet, please don’t give up because it turns into something pretty awesome.

“It was pretty awful thing to realize that a vigilante serial killer who melted bodies in tubs and couldn’t seem to have any normal relationships with people was your only goddamn ‘friend’ in the world.”

description

The author takes us on an adventure littered with danger. She does a solid job of incorporating danger, hot chemistry, and some pretty great humor in this story. Luce, our vigilante in a hoodie’s fall for Evan is pretty amazing. I adored so many things about this book and would definitely recommend!

“The way my heart squeezed let me know I hadn’t just dipped my tope into love. Oh, no. I was swimming in it.”

I was expecting so much from this book.
A real dark and hot story.
It started really good, but it became boring really quick.
In the fourth/fifth chapter (can't remember), the story lost me.
From half of the book, it was downhill to the end...

description

Luce is a vigilante, a mysterious man, but is caught so easy by Evan.
I didn't felt connection between the main characters.
The plot is interesting and premises something that didn't happen.
Don't know, can't explain.
Just... No...

“It means I’m in love with you, Luce,” she said, shocking the shit out of me enough to completely shut up my swirling thoughts. “So of course I accept you. Sad, dark, twisted,” she went on, shrugging. “Scars and all. I love it all, Luce.”

Wow, this book took me by surprise big time!

This was my first read from this author, and I guess now you're wondering where on earth have I been? What took me so long! LOL Had I known that it would be this good, I would have picked it up sooner.

I've heard many good things about this book, and after finishing reading it, I can confidently say that what people have said is true. It was amazing! Vigilante was a story that once I picked up, I was instantly hooked and it made me stay up late two nights in a row. I simply couldn’t put it down!

I enjoyed every aspect of this one. It was a fast-paced story with a riveting plot, full of intrigue, conflict, emotions, sexual tension, passion, heart-wrenching moments, and also many twists and turns that made my jaw drop over and over again. Moreover, every unforeseeable/interesting/shocking turn of events gave me a lot of satisfaction more than I expected.

However, I would be lying if I said this book was flawless. Of course, there was something in the story that felt a bit off to me. Some parts were somewhat far-fetched and some others got me slightly confused. Despite that, I considered Vigilante a success for me.

Why?

The answer is very simple. This book gave me all the feels. It simply managed to hit me right in the feels! It made me smile, laugh, cry, thrill, shudder, and even shriek. I was so happy when Luce and Evan were together, but at the same time, worried about what would happen to them. My heart ached for what they had been through, especially for Luce. Learning about the things that happened during the years of his childhood made me burst into tears. It was beyond heartbreaking…

One of the best things I loved about this one was that it didn’t entirely revolve around the hero and the heroine. There was plenty of substance, and the book really had a story to tell.

The romance between Luce and Evan was a combination of heat and sweetness. It was such a glorious part of the book for me. And about the sex scenes…hell yeah, they were SO DAMN HAWT! Their first time having sex was mind-blowing. Ooooh, I loved it!

This is one of the scenes where I found freaking sexy.

…My brain kinda stopped functioning for a while… LOL Oh my, that was absolutely a panty melter! *fans self*

Another thing I loved about this book was the main couple. Luce was superbly amazing and Evan was surprisingly adorable. I found myself falling in love with both the hero and heroine, which, honestly, doesn’t happen very often for me.

All in all, this was a great read. I enjoyed every chapter of it. Couldn’t be happier!

LOVED IT!

The world could be a beautiful place.

But it could also be inhumanely ugly.

And, unfortunately, the recipient of most of that ugliness was women.

My friend Becky recommended this book to me.
She wrote an excellent review and I fully agree with her.
Check Becky’s reviews. She writes amazing stuff, incl. triggers and safety notes.
She guided me to a couple of very good books.
Thank you, my friend!

This book deals with things we try to avoid
Child abuse.

Molestation.

Rape.

Human rights violations against women.

This books shows the ugly side of the world we fear and often ignore
Child abuse.

Molestation.

Rape.

Human rights violations against women.

This books tells us the stories, we don’t want to hear
Child abuse.

Molestation.

Rape.

Human rights violations against women.

It’s raw, ugly, full of triggers, but HONEST.

You see, I have a strong moral compass. But when I have a hero who takes out the scum of the earth, who kills rapists and pedophiles, I have no morals and zero judgment.

Each f*cking scumbag, who hurt and molested a child or woman, must suffer and die!!!
Hate them! Hate them! Hate them!

Damn, I wish there were more blood in this book…

I wish for a very detailed, long, and full of hurt and torture scene of murdering of a rapist.

I wish for an extremely detailed, very long and full of worst torture scene of punishing and murdering of a pedophile.

I wish these line were never truth…
"Income inequality in a country always affects women and children the worst…"

I wish it were impossible to write this book because all these things weren't true.
I wish a world would be a better place.
I hate it, but I don't ignore it!

The romance side of the story wasn’t perfect in a classical way.
But I liked them both. Usual small issues with the heroine, but nothing that annoyed me.

He was my favorite of course.
I wish for more men like him in a real life.

Repentance they say? Redemption they say?
Kill Punish the f*ckers I say!!!

The world could be a beautiful place.

But it could also be inhumanely ugly.

And, unfortunately, the recipient of most of that ugliness was women.

This was an interesting read!! To be honest, I don't know what to say!!! "Vigilante" is definitely on the dark side of a story. The first half especially had me scratching my head and wondering if I should continue...LOL I honestly didn't know what to think about this Luce character!!! He kills people for a living...yes...his victims do deserve what they get...but holy heck....this is the hero???
The thing is, Jessica did a brilliant job of making me root for a guy that lives his life in a grey area...

When Evan; (who is the heroine) decides to get revenge for her father's death...she goes straight to Luce's door to deliver that revenge. OMG!!! This is when the story gets really good! I would love to go into more, but you just have to read it!

I love when an author is able to turn a guy that should be thought of as a villain, into someone that I can fall in love with...and feel sorry for...Jessica does this with Luce...he has a horrific past, and it is no wonder that he is not able to be "normal.." When him and Evan fall in love, I adore how he is able to be so gentle with her, and so protective! Even though most would think of them as dysfunctional....they find a normal for them!!! I just love that!

This story was one I really enjoyed...my only complaint would be that the beginning seemed a little slow to start for me; but I can be impatient sometimes!!! And the other would be that the heroine's name; Evan....I think of that as a guys name so in the beginning I was getting confused about who the hero was!! LOL That is probably just because I must be a bit simple minded or something...LOL But I just didn't care for her name!!!

If you are into dark reads...then absolutely give this one a try!

**3.5 Stars**

I don't even know how to review this book. I didn't really start to get into the characters until about 65%. For some reason, I just could not connect with them. I wish Luce had stayed a little more like he was in the beginning though. I mean he is a killer, a vigilante. But then he became too nice? Easy going? Something.

I really liked Evan. I was afraid she was going to be too alpha but she really wasn't at all. But man, it seemed like the poor girl just had bad news after bad news coming at her. It was a little excessive IMO.

I absolutely loved the epilogue which is set at different times throughout their lives.

Cholewka, wiedziałam że się nie zawiodę. :)

This book is dark, much darker than I expected, and deals with a lot of sensitive subjects such as rape, paedophilia and murder. So I guess it's not for everyone, especially not for the sensitive and faint-hearted.
And also the reason why I loved it so much! lol.
And I'll be honest, I wanted to DNF at the beginning because I couldn't get into it and it dragged a bit at first. But I'm glad I didn't because it got really good. So good, I actually stayed up reading till 3 am. Again!

And it has everything I live for:
- a fucked-up, loner hero
- a great, strong heroine
- a lot of twists and turns
- fantastic writing
- and, last but not least, a HEA

I must say that Luce's story was truly fucked up and heartbreaking and I looooved his character, especially his sense of humour, his funny banter with Evangeline, how he can't stay away from her despite everything, how he falls for her harder and harder with each page.
And their chemistry?
Yeah, that shit was HAAAWT!!

And, most importantly, using Polish (even those few words) was a really nice touch, and I'm a sucker for that in my books since Polish is my mother tongue and I use it on a daily basis at home. Well, together with English, of course (though I sometimes mix them altogether lol).
So kudos for that to Jessica!
I knew I fell in love with her writing for a reason. :)

Exactly how does Jessica Gadziala turn characters who dance across the dark side of life, into knee-weakening heroes of dream fantasies? Yeah, yeah, call me a cougar, but Luce is, um, well, kinda hot, like sunspots are hot, or maybe hotter... I mean, what is NOT to like about a man who is self-sufficient, brilliant, pays attention to details and knows how to clean up his own mess, not to mention he is dedicated to righting the wrongs of the world and protect the weak from the monsters who stalk them?

VILGILANTE is a slightly different journey to Navesink Bank where one more of its less than saint-worthy residents and a woman on a mission to avenge her father’s murder discover truths, trust and passion together…and oh, the passion…and the danger they find.

She was beautiful and exotic. Evan’s father had protected her, fed her, taught her about his version of life and she lived in the bubble he created for her. He was the man he wanted her to see. Now she wants to know the truth about her father’s murder before she takes her revenge, but what Luce tells her muddies the waters of her resolve and sets them both on a journey that will open Evan’s eyes and both of their hearts to new possibilities and inner healing.

How did Ms. Gadziala convince me that just maybe, once again, there is more to life than meets the eye? She is an author who writes from the heart, damn the consequences and turns even a VIGILANTE into a hero.

I received an ARC edition from Jessica Gadziala in exchange for my honest review.

Vigilante was one of the darkest books I've read by Jessica Gadziala but it was no less amazing! Evangeline and Luce were edgy and consuming! I lived for the banter and their connection. 4 stars! ~Ratula

So Vigilante is VERY dark, by far the darkest of Jessica's Gadziala's books that I've read so far. (Of course, this is only my third.) However, I totally loved both Luce and Evan (short for Evangeline).

Luce briefly appeared in book 2 of Gadziala's Investigators series, though you don't have to have read that book to understand what's happening. Luce is a vigilante who kills pedophiles and rapists, though I wouldn't say he exactly enjoys the act of murdering. Rather, he views it as vengeance because of his past. (See the trigger warning below.)

Ev, meanwhile, grew up with (what she thought was) a vigilante father, similar to Luce. She meets Luce when she kidnaps him with the intent to kill him, believing he murdered her father. However, she is devastated to learn her father was actually a serial rapist who committed suicide rather than suffer at Luce's hands.

I LOVED that Ev managed to pull one over on Luce and kidnap him, who is supposed to be this killing machine. I was a little disappointed, however, that she lost some of her badass-ness as the book progressed, instead relying heavily on Luce to save her and help her find her mother. I'm not saying a heroine shouldn't rely on the hero for help, but since I ADORED the Mindf*ck series, I guess I was hoping for a little more bloodthirst from Ev than we ever actually got.

I am also not sure the epilogue totally fit, which is why I gave this book 4 stars. Normally I am 100% for a HEA; however, this is a dark book with some ugly things happening in it. I felt like a HFN would have been better suited, and I especially would have liked some indication that Ev and Luce joined up together to be vigilantes. (The couple that murders together stays together!)

Safety Stats:

Ages:Ev is described as "mid-twenties," Luce's age is not mentioned.

Cheating: None.

OM/OW:None. Ev is nearly raped by a group of men who want revenge for her father's actions, however.

Separation:None.

Triggers: Descriptions of rape and violence against women. Some description of child rape. Descriptions of murder and violence.

HEA? Yes, epilogue fast forwards into Ev and Luce's future in which they are married with children.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

"It means I'm in love with you, Luce," she said, shocking the shit out of me enough to completely shut up my swirling thoughts. "So of course I accept you. Sad, dark and twisted," she went on, shrugging. "Scars and all. I love it all, Luce."

"It was a pretty awful thing to realize that a vigilante serial killer who melted bodies in tubs and couldn't seem to have any normal relationships with people was your only goddamn "friend" in the world."

L'epilogo poi..

"Maybe we should keep the cabin in the woods," he said, lips twitching slightly. "If this is a girl, and some shithead ever breaks her heart..."
"You can't murder and melt our daughter's boyfriends, Luce."
I say with a genuine smile. "Wanna bet?"

3.25- 3.5 stars I think?

This was a good book really, its just lacking a thrill. Luce was entertaining as hell and so is Evan BUT there is something missing to the story. I think it was too fast. The lack of details in the story somewhat made this book an average book.

I love Luce really, he was the "occasionally hilarious, always mysterious" guy (Evan's words). I also find it intriguing and damn funny that he loves DISNEY MOVIES! Omg! A serial killer who enjoys watching children's movies is a hundred percent adorable and weird. The story about his past is really a cringe-worthy one. It was brutal, cruel, vile and very much evil. The thing I love about Luce's character is that he still managed to be a good person (in his own way) even if his past experiences were that evil.

I also loved the character of Evan. She was cool and amazing. She's not the stereotypical annoying heroine. She has knowledge about poison for goodness sakes! Its badass!

I enjoyed this book, made me laugh but it would've been a lot better if there were more details in this book.

Jessica Gadziala knows how to write a cracking story, and Vigilante is no exception to this rule. Luce is a careful, tightly-wound killer of very bad people. People who don't even deserve to spend the rest of their miserable, evil lives in prison - they (and the rest of the world) are better off six feet under, or even better, dissolved in lye...

When Luce finds himself incapacitated and locked in a well-constructed cage, he wonders which particular foe might have kidnapped him. To his great surprise, his captor turns out to be an exotic beauty whose father was, unbeknownst to her, a serial rapist as well as an infamous professional criminal. Evangeline is gorgeous, clever, skilled in poisons and unwillingly attracted to Luce, whose strong, lean heavily scarred body and dark brooding face are compelling and hot as sin. While the circumstances of their initial meeting aren't exactly first date material (!!), this unlikely pair just works. Their peculiar upbringings somehow click, while their attraction to each other is beyond hot.

Receiving a Jessica Gadziala ARC is a privilege and honor, and I'm happy to let you know my thoughts on this story. No spoilers, but this book is action-packed, very dark and completely awesome. I wasn't able to put it down!

DNF at 26% - I just can’t do it anymore. Up until this point, it’s been a collection of boring internal musings from the hero and heroine. In the 26% I read, one thing happened that moved the plot forward in any way: the hero and heroine met. That is it - one thing, and that one thing should be a given! It was showing, not telling at its best.

And their POV’s just weren’t that interesting; the hero keeps trying to be funny and badass, the heroine is trying to be badass (and sometimes, funny) and I am trying to stay awake.

Also, I kept waiting for the darkness to creep in, but it honestly felt closer to a comedy than a dark book. I mean sure, it starts with the hero explaining how he melts his victims or whatever, but that’s the extent of the darkness (and even that’s debatable) for the 26% I read. I’m sure more darkness will come, though.

The thing is, this is right up my alley; I love my books a little dark, my heroes a little dangerous and my heroines badass. And I liked these characters too, in theory. I liked the plot idea. I liked the writing. But unfortunately, that was all ruined by the amount of internal musings, the unnecessary information and the lack of action.

this was pretty good! luce and evan are both excellent characters, and i thought that although it was insta-lust it wasn't insta-love and the romance was therefore believable. i would have liked there to have been more of a showdown with evan's would-be killer, because it seemed like that was just tacked on the end as an afterthought, but other than that everything was great.

....

As she's done it again!!!

This author excels at all things taboo, naughty and not for the faint hearted. Of course she is brilliant at everything I've read from her but her more touchy subject are just something else.

This story is more than romance. It's not a cute fluffy story. It's messed up in so many ways it's shouldn't work. You think you know what's coming but you have no idea, you couldn't possibly predict how truly horrific the truth is. I cried so hard for Luce. My heart broke for him and Evan. For what they went through and for their past things that they had no control over.

I loved Luce! I think he may be my favourite guy yet!. I love that he was so unaware of how caring he was. The softness that lay under the hard exterior was so worth the wait. I respected his choices and the reasoning behind his work. I admired how strong of a person he truly was and the fact he wasn't in denial about his life himself or what he did. He's wasn't your typical hero but lord have mercy he was perfect. He broke my heart and put it back together.

Evans past wasn't nearly as heartwrenching as Luce's however my heart did break for her just as much. I can't imagine what it would be like to find out your life is a lie. To be betrayed by someone who should have protected you. To find out someone you love (unconventional yes) but still and enough to avenge is the absolute worst kind of monster. My heart hurt for her.

I loved both of their characters. Both such strong individuals made an unbreakable pair and if I'm being totally honest there my favourite yet! Evan because in the face of heart break/loss/betrayal she choose to face it head on. She truly was a hero in her story. No unnecessary drama, no poor me she just powered through. And the acceptance she gave Luce truly made by heart feel like it was bursting.
Luce because he's Luce I don't need a reason though I have to many to list anyway but anyone who's read this will understand you can't help but love him.

I have said many a time that two broken parts make one whole but never have a I felt that right down to my bones until reading this. They fit so perfect it's almost unbelievable.

This story has everything. It's not for the faint hearted. There are times where I had to take a step away from the kindle before I had an emotional breakdown. Times where I got so angry I nearly threw the kindle across the room. Moments I laughed so hard I had tears and of course times where I was reduced to a puddle of mush cause dem sex scenes ain't no joke tho. Jessica out did herself with this master peice. It's seamlessly written to perfection with an ending to make you wanna weep.
I thought a few hours would help de jumble my mind enough to to write a structured review but alas it hasn't and my brain is fried. I may come back and add more but for know this is all I have.

Just wow though I cannot recommend this enough!
