Review of Steel Kisses by Laura Strickland
This book was nothing like I expected. I find most of the Steampunk I’ve read to be a bit campy. This was anything but campy. This is a remarkable book of deep layers.

The phrase ‘automaton rights’ piqued my curiosity and in the fourth chapter I decided I, too, would be a champion for automaton rights… Steel Kisses is a cute story that swept me up in no time at all. There was enough description that I understood the setting, the society and the characters, but not so much that I felt bogged down in detail. I received an ARC of this book so I won’t speak of any issues I expect to be addressed during the editing process, and will focus on the plot, instead.

Steel Kisses is set in Buffalo/Niagara in a Victorian Steampunk age. Reynold is a gentle man who works at a local funeral home and has a crush on a beautiful woman he sees everyday getting off the tram. Unbeknownst to him, this woman - Lily - is actually an automaton and she is a prostitute at the Crystal Palace.
