I wouldn't read it again but it was nice nonetheless! If you like stories where people need to lie about their own identity and end up in a big mess, this book is for you.

After every Christi Caldwell book I think, “Oooh! This one is my favorite!” And then she writes another one that totally blows me away. Like all her previous stories, Beguiled By A Baron left me breathless, agonizing (in a good way), and entranced. And, as with all her books, I enjoyed a huge happy sigh at the end.

Bridget Hamilton had spent her life cast out by her family. Her partial deafness and the birthmark marring her face had marked her as unworthy of the Hamilton name. She lived in a s

Vail is such a sweet man , what’s not to like , he’s on a mission to find all his half siblings , he’s not looking for a HEA but she finds him , and boy is she a little powerhouse.

Beguiled by a Baron ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ written by Christi Caldwell

In this book, we meet Bridget Hamilton. Ms Hamilton has been the victim of ridicule all her life. She is partially deaf in her left ear and bears a large crescent birthmark on her left cheek. In 1820, any deformity was looked upon cruelly and the person with the deformity was hidden away. This was the life Bridgett lived. Her brother then cast aside his by blow and Bridget at 17 became the child's mother. Her brother Archibald, the Marque

I love Christi Caldwells books and this one did not disappoint.
Two people shunned by society and family meet under the guise of duplicity. Vail Basingstoke, Baron Chilton a bastard son of a whore served at Waterloo and gifted a title has made a fortune in antiquated books and other businesses. He's tracked down 12 siblings sired by the same man and set them up with a future. Lady Bridget Hamilton shined by her vile family for being born with a crescent mark on her cheek and deaf in one ear

This story had such strong characters in Vail and Bridget. Vail was all you would want in a hero, strong, noble and such a caring nature towards his siblings. Bridget, in spite of her dreadful family is also a caring and loving person. She is placed in an impossible situation by her despicable brother. Oh, how I hoped for her to have a happy solution. It was obvious how much research the author done into rare books and this enhanced the storyline. This was quite an emotional read at times but on ...more

Soooo good! Such interesting characters, great story, good angst! I usually struggle with the notion of people falling in love so quickly but it felt real and believable here. I loved how Vail helped Bridget see that she is so much more than her awful family taught her she is! I am reading this series out of order, cherrypicking the ones that cater to my favorite tropes, but I'll probably end up reading them all. Christi Caldwell is a new fave! (4.5 stars) ...more

In which we again meet a gentleman who displays dual faces to the world. Vail Basingstoke, Baron Chilton is a ruthless businessman who deals in the cutthroat world of rare books. He's built a financial empire around the buying and selling of these treasures. On the other hand, as his horse, Atlas, can attest, he cheerfully bears the weight of the world on his shoulders.

Enter Lady Bridget Hamilton, a well-educated, bibliophile with crushing secrets who displays a captivating beauty of spirit and

I have read the whole Heart of a Duke series and have noticed an amazing growth in the character development over the course of the series. What started out as a light-hearted series of young ladies looking for true love has morphed into deep thought provoking stories of wounded people who overcome their problems and situations to find the love and family they need. If you are unfamiliar with Christi Caldwell's work this series is a MUST READ!
In this case, Vail, Lord Basingstoke - the Bastard Ba

There is nothing that makes me happier then reading a Christi Caldwell book. Her stories pull you from page one and are written with such emotional depth and heart that you can't but help love her heroine and hero.

Christi writes such endearing characters. Men and Women who have been scorned, shunned or ignored by their society or world for a perceived flaw that makes them unworthy. This makes her characters relatable because we all at some point have felt like we just don't belong or are not go

Another Excellent Read!

The Heart of a Duke series is one of the best series to read in this genre. Each time I read one of these stories, I end by saying it's my favorite! Beguiled by A Baron is no exception and my most recent favorite by Christi Caldwell. Bridget Hamilton is a woman who has been taught by her family that she is worthless. Years of abuse and neglect by them for her physical imperfections should have made her as crazy and mean as they are. But she is a caring woman who just wants

A heroine worthy of a happily ever after!

I so loved this book! This story of Bridget, born less than perfect in the eyes of her wealthy parents, her life is as a result, very "un": unfair, unhappy, unpromising. She is relegated to a life in the country alone, away from a family who abandons her with her nursemaid. But this "un" compromising, undaunted, and unflagging young woman makes her own life and family and supports herself using her mind. But there is a conflict with a family member who ju

I love Ms. Caldwell's Heart of a Duke series. This one is another WINNER by Ms. Caldwell. Beguiled by a Baron is #14 in her HOAD series. Ms. Caldwell again had me on an emotional roller coaster with Vail and Bridget. I sympathized with both Vail and Bridget. I got teary more than once. Which is normal for me with a Christi Caldwell book. I have a new 'Regency' book boyfriend in Vail Basingstoke. I loved how smart he was. He seemed to be a Regency version of a HOT nerd. Which are my favorite kind ...more

Another magical book by Christi Caldwell. From the first words, I felt myself wanted to wrap protective arms around Bridget and Virgil and never let any harm come to them. Bridget is a strong, smart and talented heroine. She is beautiful, inside and out.
Vail has a purpose in life. He works to build his fortune so he can do good and provide better lives for his family.
Both are wounded in matters of the heart, yet, love always finds a way.
Once started, I could not stop flipping the pages. I actua

Heart of a Duke Series Book Fourteen
Lady Bridget Hamilton's life was not an easy one. She had always been unwanted by her family and her siblings were cruel. When her brother threatened her with the one thing in life she treasured...she knew there was no choice but to do what he told her to.

There has always been an element of suspense in Christi Caldwell's books - will love come right, will the evil person get their comeuppance, how can a seemingly evil person (say, the Marquis of Rutland) be redeemed. This time, the suspense rather overshadowed the love story for me.
The characters were, perhaps, stronger than usual. The evil brother - has no redeeming features. The task at hand is destroying the heroine, who is more crippled than usual (at least in her mind). T

Love It!

This is a fabulous journey of a young ladies life. Being shuttered off to a cottage on her parents property, the four year old daughter of a Marguis, to live the rest of her life dead to society, because she is not perfect! A birthmark on her face, and hard of hearing. What possible use is she? Baron Chilton, bastard son of a Duke , and a whore. Vail grows into a wealthy business man, buying and selling priceless books, only he is nobody's fool! He lives to make more, and more money! Wha

Desperation makes people do desperate things.
Bridget was an outcast in her own family. They turned their backs on her due to a birthmark on her face and lack of hearing. None of which was Bridget's fault.
Bridget has made a meager living examining antiquated texts. Which just sounds super fun. I love books. She is my kind of gal!
Her vile brother basically blackmails Bridget into stealing a valuable book from Baron Chilton. Her brother's threats put Bridget in an impossible position.

This book was so beautiful! Bridget must make decisions that no matter what she does will leave destruction in her wake. Vail has been so focused in taking care of everyone that he refuses to open himself up to love. The story was a complex, beautiful study in the perspective of how you view life and all it's decisions. Each character was so well written with their emotional depth you couldn't help but connect to their internal struggles. The plot was so intense you were definitely left holding ...more

Bridget was such a lier by the end of the story it began to take away my feelings of sympathy for her. She was also struck deaf and dumb at critical points in the story, not in keeping with the character. The hero Vail had patience and she was lucky he stood by all the lies that came of of her mouth. Lying was so easy for her. The book was well written, but I took away a star because the author made me feel like Vail should have thrown her out on the street. He was a good man to his family too.

Loved Bridget and Vail

Great Story and so much could go wrong, I love that Christi Caldwell doesn't treat her characters or readers as if they are a bit on the brainless side. She allows them to try and think through decisions and not assume they will always make the worst choices. It is wonderful to see characters from her previous books and how she incorporates them into her stories. This story has an interesting twist and I think if you give it a chance you will love the Bridget and Vail story

Beguiled by a Baron

I loved this one! I can’t find words to describe this properly. You have a neglected woman named Bridget who is forced to do a deed she does not want to do. Her mean brother makes her steal a book from Vail. Vail is a baron who has spent his years finding his siblings to make sure they do not struggle as he had growing up. So he sells rare books to make a living for himself and his family. Bridget is tasked with stealing a rare book from Vail. So she poses as his maid. You’ll

All I can say is Wow!

Christi Caldwell had me from the first page. Bridgett, desperate not to lose her son, goes to work as a housekeeper to still an original Chaucer from Vail, Baron Chilton . She knows that her' s and the life of her son depends on this one act of deception. What she didn't plan on is a man like Vail. We all know where this is going to but the twist and turns to get there are engaging and at times frustrating but it is well worth the ride.

This romance novel between a partially deaf spinster with a birthmark on her face and a baron who was elevated to the peerage due to battlefield heroics was just kind of okay for me. She masquerades as a housekeeper in order to steal a rare book from him, as she is being blackmailed by a pretty awful person. For over half the book I was just wondering "why is she still doing this?" It's a decent story but the dishonesty felt too over the top. It would have been fairly easy to come clean. ...more

Threads we weave!

Ms Caldwell has added another thread to her tapertry of characters. Virgil was a wonderful touch to the story. Children quite often see the true character of an adult and for once we get to see an adult listen and act on a child's information. I love this story but so many of the previous thirteen novels were just as good.
