Harrison's Heart is the seventh book in the series Heroes for Hire. Technically, I suppose you can read this one as a stand alone but to better understand why Harrison is feeling so left out from his friends in the beginning it makes sense to read the series. With so many of his friends/colleagues all finding love, Harrison finds it difficult to be around the compound where they all live and work. Since of course Harrison thinks he will never fall like his friends did. That is until he meets Zoe. Similar to the other books in this series, Zoe is in trouble and it is up to Harrison and the rest of Legendary Security to help. This was another fun addition to the series and I look forward to seeing which hero will fall next. Especially since each of these men make fun of one another and till they are the ones finding love.
This book is part of a series, but the great thing is you can read it as a stand alone. Harrison's Hart touches on many subjects, one of them spousal and to an extent child abuse. Dale Mayer never dissapoints, her books are always about issues that are problematic in society today.
Even though serious issues are touched upon, there is always a thread of light heartedness amongst all the men. They love teasing each other and it seems that Harrison is getting the brunt of it, being the last man standing. He is also frustrated being surrounded by couples in love. So he jumps at the job offered to him. This starts a roller coaster ride of trying to find the people who shot Zoe's father and assaulted her mother.
This is a gripping, on the edge of your seat book, that keeps you hooked to the last page. And the one behind it all is the greatest surprise of all.
Highly recommended to every fan of Dale Mayer as well as lovers of Romantic Suspense.
Thank you to the author and publisher for providing me with the opportunity to read and review this book.
Harrison Hamilton seems to be the odd man out. He doesn’t seem to like how life is changing around him. He’s so snarky that you can almost hear it coming off the page. Zoe Branson shows the reader how tough it is being a woman in the military. Adds to what has been in the news lately.
Our author takes their two stories and interweaves a little mystery and intrigue – something great to pass a rainy day. Harrison is a symbol of strength and that’s something Zoe needs in her life right now. We see glimpses of her inner strength but she needs someone that she can lean on for a change. I can get where she’s coming from but the author has made her really stubborn. This just has me wanting to see who wins the battle.
Like a story with plenty of action? This author will give that to you in spades. There are two secondary characters, Saul and Dakota, that can make a dig at Zoe and have you laugh at the same time. They leave you wanting more. This is a story where you’re going to want to get comfortable. You just may find yourself finishing this book in one sitting. I was happy to see an ending that lets me know that this series isn’t quite over yet. You actually meet the next hero here but the author is great at teasing her readers so be prepared to wait and see what match Ms. Mayer has created.
Don’t feel that you need to read the first six books in order to enjoy this one – you don’t. But I hope that you enjoy this one enough that at some point you may want to read more of the series. Especially with book eight coming out next month. Having met the next hero in this book did leave me wanting to see more of him and now I have that chance. Then maybe you could go back and check out the previous books.
I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
I don't even know where to start. Harrison is feeling the pressure of being surrounded by the "Hero's for Hire" or " Hero's of the Heart" couples and just needs to escape. He is so sure that he will never have what the others have and deep down he is kind of jealous. When Ice's father calls with a request for help for a friend he jumps at the chance to leave the "Love" behind. Zoe is angry, she feels she let her friend down and the people who were supposed to help let Zoe down leaving a bad taste for military, law enforcement and authority. She has been running from her problems until Harrison offers her a challenge to face what she is running from. I just love when our strong men find themselves confronted with something or someone that they can't explain. Meeting the woman who will complete them is always so entertaining. This was a storyline filled with pain, betrayal, anger and about people in power who think they are above the law. Ms. Mayer always seems to add something that needs to be brought to the attention of the public even when it is a touchy subject and can make some people uncomfortable. The story was well written, easy to follow, had awesome characters , grabs you right from the first chapter and does not let go. Even though the subject matter was serious, Ms. Mayer still found a way to add humor, love and compassion. I really loved the "Love Boat" reference, I laughed out loud when that came up. We are introduced to some new characters so we have some new "Hero's" to entertain us in the future. I look forward to seeing how the new group of guys get inducted into this close knit club, it is sure to be a Hell of a ride. I volunteered to read this story for my honest opinion.
Harrison is out of sorts because right now he is the last of the single men in Levi's compound. Other single men are coming in but Harrison is feeling boxed in by all the love around him. He not sure love will ever find him.
Zoe is a Senator's daughter who has had a less then golden life. She joins the military in part because of her childhood but after a trauma to one of her female friends in the military she becomes bitter and angry and is thwarted at every turn to try and get justice for her friend.
She is caught up in something that has gotten her father shot and her mother beaten and she is next one the list. Enter Harrison.
Ice's father calls and requests assistance when Zoe's mom is brought to his hospital and he asks that they locate the daughter.
Zoe is tough and determined to be alone to figure things out. She is a badass and stands up to everyone, she doesn't cower down to anyone, not even Harrison who towers over the tiny keg of dynamite that is Zoe.
We also meet Saul and Dakota who help keep the family safe and join the team if they do well on this trial case for them.
Harrison and Zoe are well matched and she is a very strong character, part of the reason why I keep reading the series. She doesn't back down from a fight and can save herself, yet she has a soft, vulnerable side as well. Harrison is strong and loyal and will protect her to the end.
Ms. Mayer also sheds so much needed light on what can happen to women in a male dominated military. Hopefully things will change for the better or are better since this was written.
I look forward to the next in the series. I can't seem to put these books down.
This is the seventh book in the Heroes for Hire series that can be read as a stand-alone.
As the lone single man at the Legendary Security compound until new recruits join, Harrison Hamilton is suffering from what can be termed couples behavior aversion/overload. Any mission that gets him away from home base for a while will suffice and when Ice’s father asks for help for a woman who’s a patient and an old friend Harrison enthusiastically volunteers, he can’t leave soon enough. How a senator was shot and his wife beaten is the crime to solve and he’ll have to find their two adult children who are missing. Research provided on the parties in question show the daughter to be ex-military and a contradiction to her roots and time in the service, an intriguing enigma to a former Navy SEAL.
After leaving the military Zoe Branson was disillusioned with authority in all forms and she’d lost faith in most of the human race. She’s an angry twenty-seven-year-old trying to find her way forward in life. The hand life dealt her was cruel, not what people would suspect for the daughter of a wealthy senator. She fought circumstances but wasn’t able to do enough for her mother and later for her friend. She’s off the grid with a blind musician panhandler when strangers find her, some that mean her harm. The military taught her to defend herself and about injustice, but trust is now a foreign concept for Zoe, and she doesn’t know what to make of Harrison when he offers her his assistance.
This reader loves a strong heroine and this one comes back fighting stronger when life strikes her down. Zoe is such a relentless person. She’s angry at the universe but intelligent, she sees in Harrison the belief and support system she needs to stand tall and right some wrongs and it won’t be easy, she’s the target of powerful people who believe they are above the law. There are uncomfortable topics addressed in this story in a realistic and compassionate fashion.
Harrison never figured such a feisty, stubborn, at times snarky woman who could physically take care of herself and handle a gun would intrigue him so deeply, they could make a good team in more ways than one if he can just find a way to gain her precious trust. This alpha’s ability to empathize, to understand Zoe’s pains is the key to making a connection so he can keep her safe. This was an intense, emotional, and suspenseful story that showed the darker side of humanity, but where there is darkness there is always the possibility of light. It was amusing how fate guided Harrison to find what he ran from.
An advanced reading copy was obtained from the author.
Wonderful read! So much better than book six! Zoe's character was awesome! Yeah she was a bit stubborn, a true loner and an extremely distrustful person but all of that was totally reasonable due to her abusive father and the circumstances surrounding her friend's death. All so very sad! Its so frustrating to see how women get treated, doesn't matter if they're housewives or defending our country, we deserve respect. Not to get hit, abused or assaulted because we're consider a weaker species, that's complete horse shit. Zoe, while vulnerable, was just as kick ass as any man, probably even better. That's what this series needs..more women like her and Ice!
Overall this was a very engaging read, the whole 'whodunit' aspect was very intriguing and definitely had me turning each page with fervor trying to find out who was behind what. With so many dead bodies and equally so many culprits, it was hard to guess who did what and why. I would have liked to give this book a full five star rating but the General was never caught, it was implied that he would be found but nothing came of it and a man who hides his sons horrendous activities and allows him to get away with such brutal acts against women should be made to pay, yet I feel like the military is totally defending his actions. It was very disappointing having the book end and not knowing if the General will be caught, tried and punished for his crimes!!
The only issue I had with this book is that they fall in love too easily. I know it is a romance and that is how it should go. But three days is a bit of a stretch for the I love you bit. I think because the sparks weren't there between the two characters. I think that might be because I didn't like Harrison as much as I liked the other heroes. In the last book he was happy to torture people and though the bad guys deserved it, it soured me towards Harrison.
Our heroine on the other hand is awesome. Prickly but not mean she has a reason to be standoffish. On the run because everyone thinks she shot her father and beat her mother to an inch of her life it is Harrison's job to find her. They discover that men haven't been the best in her life, especially in her family. And it is clear that her going to authority is out of the question because of her history with a lack of justice. This is important because the rest of the story is a juicy fantastical situation.
I do love Dale Mayer's stories as the romance is always consensual and even though we have lots of violence the violence is never ever directed at the woman. Just like romance should be it is more about the soft sweet moments rather than violent hot passion. I wish men would read these books and see just the kind of hero women are truly looking for. Harrison is the partner in protecting her but he doesn't try to solve all the problems on his own.
I have loved every single one of the Heroes for Hire books but this one is my favorite so far. Harrison and Zoe are a match made in heaven, Zoe is ex military and doesn't take anyone's bull, she stands up for herself and knows how to care of herself as well. She's a fighter and very capable but when her father is shot and her mom badly beaten, she ends up being a suspect. There are many many secrets in her family and she went into the military to basically escape but then another incident happened while she was there which led her to leave and start seeking justice on her own. Harrison is called in to look for her after the shooting by her mom's doctor and when he finds her he also finds a feisty woman who he can't resist and she finally drops her guard with him and starts to trust, having her help him in solving the mystery as to who done it and why. A great great story with action, mystery, some suspense, lust/love and the main reason I really really enjoy these books is because there isn't any extra drama between the couples and this one is no exception and Zoe is my favorite so far of the females, they are all strong women in each of the books but Zoe has endured a lot and still came out stronger. *I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book*
Overview: Harrison's Heart is destined to become one of my favorite books in all of the series written by Dale Mayer! It was one of those books that it was hard to put down and moved very quickly! It was great to see how quickly Harrison moved from wanting to be away from the "compound of love" as he referred to their quarters... to falling in love and realizing he had met that perfect some one..
Maturity Level: First part of the book has mostly low key, but the last part racks it up and get's pretty Hot!
What I Liked the most...
- Loved seeing the gang from the previous books. - The relationship between Harrison and Zoe build's nicely, they just don't jump into it. The romance was great as they built the relationship. - Good emotional read..Zoe had trust issues and family problems and Harrison helped her overcome and learn to trust. - Zoe was no weakling, she took care of herself but leaned on Harrison... He in turn knew she could handle herself and trusted her! Lot's of action in this one and Zoe was very involved! - As always the "Hero's" come off as a great team and family who have each other's back.
I received a free copy of this book, and this is a voluntary review
A senator and his wife have been severely injured and are in the hospital. Harrison, our hero, and his team have been asked to help. Our hero sets off to try and find out exactly what happened and who is responsible. One of the tasks is finding the daughter of the senator before someone else does.
Our heroine is the daughter of the senator and ex military. She knows how to handle herself and has been trained well. However, when something happens to a fellow solider she decides she can do more out of the military and quits. She sets to have the people responsible for the fellow soldier's death brought to justice and people don't like it and want it dropped.
What the hero wasn't expecting was to find herself surrounded by body guards, her father dead, and her mother truly cared for. She wasn't thought of as much growing up but can the hero get through to her not everyone treats females that way and he will help in protecting her and her mother? I really seen myself in the heroine in this book because of her growing up issues. Let's hope she allows the caring and loving she gets from the hero the help heal her and her mother.
A Senator's been shot, his wife severely beaten and in Ice's father's hospital, their adult children are no where to be found, yet both were at dinner around the time of the shooting.
This time it's Harrison who's assigned, He's got a bit of cabin fever with all the couples around him. His job is to find the daughter Zoe and see what she might know.
He doesn't have that much trouble finding her, but their exchange is interesting and fun when he catches up to her.
Now a lot of people want to talk to Zoe, but she's having difficulty understanding she's in danger. Her brother is also missing but they don't get along so it's anyone's guess.
I love Trish (Zoe's Mom), she and Richard at one time had been an item, but she went for the money and power instead of the surgeon. I really hope these two will get together.
Harrison sticks to Zoe like glue and does manage to get her to stay at Richard's at least until they figure everything out.
Plenty of twists and turns, suspense and family drama as Harrison and Zoe slowly become more than just friendly.
I am already starting the next book in this series, I can't seem to stop myself.
Harrison is feeling like the odd man out as all the men at the compound are now part of a couple so when Ice’s dad requests their help he couldn’t get out of there fast enough. A daughter of a friend has been badly beaten and her husband killed and they aren’t sure if she is a suspect or in danger.
Zoe was in the military however she left due to the injustice that her friend suffered and she has been trying to get justice for her ever since. When Harrison tracks her down she is trying to hide from the people that are after her and doesn’t believe that she can trust anyone but he is her best option to stay alive. The search to find the truth of who was after her and her family and why takes many twists and turns which will leave you on the edge of your seat.
Zoe is such a strong independent character and Harrison is her perfect match as on one hand is so protective of her and on the other hand he knows that she can take care of herself. I love how close all the heroes are and I can’t wait for the next book in the series. I voluntarily read an Advanced Reader's Copy of this book.
Harrison's Heart All of the Heroes for Hire series are great books and this was no exception. The book starts with Harrison struggling to be the only member of the team without a partner. Harrison couldn't leave the compound for a mission soon enough. After finding his fiancée with his brother, Harrison felt that he'd never find love. Harrison and two numbers of the Legendary Security team went to find Zoe the missing daughter of a senator that was shot. Once they find Zoe, Harrison is determined to earn her trust and protect her, even though Zoe wants nothing to do with him. As Harrison breaks through the walls Zoe put up, they work to find out who was responsible for killing her senator father. One of the things that made this book great, was the surprise when we find out who was responsible. I didn't see that coming. Like all Heroes for Hire, Harrison is no longer alone. I'm sure we will be seeing more of Harrison and Zoe in the future books. I received a free copy of this book, and this is a voluntary review.
With Harrison feeling a bit lost being the only single member of the team currently living in the house all he wants is a mission, Ice's father calls with an urgent request for help and Harrison is up and gone almost before they hang the phone up. Zoe is in hiding, she heard the news of her family and went under, just as she is found by one lot of bad guys so she is rescued. Fast paced read, lots of action and suspense. It does contain violence, abuse and bad language. I really enjoyed this book, I think Harrison falls the minute he meets Zoe and the sparks start flying. He likes that she is tough, strong and able to take care of herself, she is also extremely loyal to those she calls friends. At the same time she isn't afraid to break down with those she trusts and lean on someone when she needs it most. I love this couple and cant wait to read more of them in upcoming books. Saul is up next, he is one of the two new guys we meet in this book just joining the team. Another 5 star read and another hit for Dale Mayer.
Harrison's Heart is as exciting and fast paced as all of Dale Mayer's other military romances. While this book is high on action and sweet on romance, it is relatively clean without long detailed bedroom scenes - always a bonus! Harrison and his team mates are gentle giants when it comes to woman although they have no compunction taking out the villains when required. When Harrison finds Zoe, he discovers an angry, mistrustful ex-military woman who has fought for justice and lost the battle, but is continuing with the war. She has made enemies along the way and she and her mother have paid the price. This book kept me on the edge of my seat as Harrison and Zoe look for reasons for the attack on her family, and they discover gruesome answers. The flow of language in this book is good, as is the grammar and spelling. As with all of Dale Mayer's books, this is a worthwhile read. I voluntarily am reviewing an Advanced Reader Copy of this book that I received through Shifted Sheets Book Promotions.
Ice's father calls the team for help and Harrison steps up to stop himself from going stir crazy and escape all the happy couples in the compound. A senator has been shot, his wife badly beaten and his daughter is now missing. He finds the daughter but she is ex-military, very angry at the world, and would rather look after herself than go anywhere with Harrison. Zoe is definitely on a mission and there is no room in her world for anyone - even heroes like Harrison. However, she has angered the wrong people and they are determined to stop her meddling even if it means ending her. Can Harrison put all of the pieces together before their world is blown apart?
This was a dramatic story with lots of drama and intrigue as Harrison struggled with the complexities of the situation as well as Zoe and all the ways he was starting to feel about her. It was nice to explore the morality of certain acts and behaviours that were involved in the story and a small number of actions that could be done to counter them. Well told and described, this was a good story that I enjoyed reading.
So far, I liked Harrison’s Heart most in Heroes for Hire series. I liked Harrison from previous books. I saw him as compassionate and calm alpha male. The kind of alpha that I love. He’s not an alpha that exerting muscle power (much), and he could respect strong female as well.
As Zoe, I really felt for her. Her helplessness feeling that led to anger and distrust to the world, authorities figures especially. She fought back, every single step she would not back down. And she fought alone. I could feel her burden, and I couldn’t help but root for her.
Their interaction was thoughtful most of the time, sweet at some. I loved how their attraction grew in steps, how the trust built brick by brick. And the suspense atmosphere was hovering most of the time.
Harrison’s Heart was simply a great book. A thoughtful, emotional read. I love it!
I was provided a complementary copy by the author / publisher, but this in no way influenced my thoughts or opinions.
This series is wonderful. Each guy is tough in his own way, but when he meets that lady in trouble, she knocks him for a loop. What I truly love about these books is that the females are not some weak, can't do anything for themselves ladies just looking to be saved. Instead, they are intelligent, more than capable women who have just ended up being in bad situations for this or that or reason and need a little assistance. Harrison and Zoe compliment each other throughout the book. She is ex-military who seen an injustice and lost faith, but kept fighting even when it meant extreme trouble for her. Harrison is sent to uncover the truth behind it all. I couldn't put this book down once I started and the twist at the end smacked me so hard I had whiplash. This was a great book. I received a copy and volunteered to read it.
WOW! Who knew that Harrison could take the ever angry Zoe. This story has two stories involved but yet they are connected by her brother. Zoe wanted to find justice for her best friend when she found her after her apparent suicide. Zoe held in to her anger for a long time and then her parents are beaten and killed. Bodies keep appearing and things point to Zoe doing this. In the later chapters we find out the truth. It was very shocking to see Zoe's brother was a monster but not to her. Zoe had no trouble ending her brother. At least her mother is safe while she continues to heal. Harrison helps Zoe through the majority of this battle she was fighting and the good guys came out on top. Zoe moves to Texas with Harrison and they both start their happily ever after. FANTASTIC job Dale! I would recommend this book.
Harrison’s Heart by Dale Mayer Heroes for Hire Series Book Seven Harrison Hamilton was thrilled to be sent on a mission to the West Coast. The compound was turning into the love boat. Everywhere he turned...was a couple. And he was single. So going away was perfect. And what a job it ended up being!
Zoe Branson had to disappear. And she had to figure out what had happened at her parents' house before she could move on. Not that she could move on. She carried too much anger for the injustice she'd lived through and failure to save her friend.
Great suspense along with the romance as they search for the bad guys but there's more than one trail to follow. And Zoe isn't off the hook for what's happened as someone wants her to look guilty. Great story. **Sexual content and language https://justjudysjumbles.blogspot.com...
*voluntarily and honestly reviewed the ARC I received from Maxwell Author Services*
4.5 for me. I liked this installment, a lot. Harrison was hilarious and serious, did things like a cool cat and really complimented Zoe, and vice versa. ZOE! Now she was a heroine I totally got into. Different from the last few women in the Heroes for Hire, she reminded me a little of Ice but with a lot more problems. Honestly she makes Ice look like springtime. And I loved her for that. This installment had another dark subject I don't read a lot about so it made reading this in one sitting possible. Their sparks and relationship were pretty simple in this complicated web of death and deceit, and overall it left me feeling pretty good.
In this book, Harrison is tasked with finding Zoe after her parents were attacked, and then they both have to work together to find out who is coming after her and why. This was an action-packed story with non-stop intrigue and a lighthearted undercurrent. It was wonderful to see all the members of Legendary Security and how they all work together even when miles apart. The focus on one of the military's toughest problems, that of how female soldiers are treated by their male counterparts, was extremely well done. Zoe is one of the toughest leading ladies in recent memory and it was really sweet to see her learn to trust Harrison and the rest of the team. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
I love the Legendary Security series. Harrison was sick of all the couples around him and jumped at the chance to get away when Ice's father rang with a request for help.
Ice's father's teenage sweetheart has been severely beaten and her husband a US Senator has been shot. Zoe the Senator's daughter has disappeared and is a suspect in her father's shooting. Zoe left the military after being disillusioned with it after the gang rape and death of her friend, especially when the perpetrators were allowed to get off scott free. Harrison finds her and begins to find he's attracted to her. Zoe has a tendency to project a caustic attitude to those she wants to keep at bay and Harrison is no exception.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Harrison was tired of the loveie-dovie compound. He needs a mission now. He thinks he's not cut out for long termed relationships. But that all changes when he meets Zoe. Now whats that saying, oh yeah; Be careful what you wish for!!
Zoe is in trouble and on the run, but she's not sure from what or who. Her father was shot in the head, her mother severely beaten, and her brother well she never knows what he is doing. All she knows is that she doesn't want to be found until an ex-navy seal does the finding.
Find out how Harrison and Zoe get together and solve her problems and his by reading this book.
'Harrison's Heart' did not disappoint. Full of action, deceit, thrills and romance. As with all the books in the 'Heroes For Hire Series', the storyline was incredibly intriguing and pulled me in from the beginning. The characters are an array of bad-ass men, a kick-ass woman and some pretty deplorable men. Harrison is quite cute. He doesn't like to share his soft side, but then he does. Zoe is one bad-ass woman. She's strong, has a high sense of morals and can quite easily put Harrison in his place. I think that's what I love about all the women in this series. I can't wait to read more. A must add to your tbr list.
Harrison never thought he would have what all his friends were finding, love. He had that once, but it didn't work out. He couldn't stand it anymore and begged Levi for a mission. Zoe is living on the streets. She is filled with so much anger. Her parents are both in the hospital and she is sure she a suspect. Harrison has found Zoe and has to figure out how to get her to work with them to find out who is after her family. She doesn't want to trust him. Men were not to be trusted. She knows she has to protect her mom and knows she can only do that with these guys to help. She also has to find retribution for her friend. Hopefully it isn't all connected.
This is Book 7 in the Heroes for Hire and is, simply put, as awesome as the first 6.
Dale Mayer never fails to catch your attention on the first page and keep you turning pages until the last page then through the Epilogue.
This book is filled with mystery, murder, intrigue as well as steamy chemistry between the 2 characters this book is centered around.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary ARC of this book and gladly gave it a 5 star rating because it was so well written and I look forward to book 8.
This was a great read as both the hero and heroine are military and I had always wondered how that would go. Zoe's character is great, she has been beaten down and hardened by something that never should have happened. I thought how Harrison approached and interacted with Zoe was great as it gave them both this chance to grow and trust each other. Some great twists and action through out, as well as the great HEA leaves you feeling well satisfied :)
I was given a complimentary copy of this book for an honest review for The Assassin's reading reviewing group.
I love Dale Mayer’s books on the SEALs and the women who capture their hearts. One of my favorite things about her books is the females are not weak, whiney women. They are all take charge, strong, capable women who challenge the alpha SEALs and together they form the perfect pair. As with the other books I’ve read from Dale, Harrison’s Heart is full of action, drama, excitement, thrills, and romance. The twists and turns will keep you engaged and flipping the pages, not wanting to put it down until the very end.
