I somehow ended up loving this, when I honestly thought I'd hate it. I'm not a massive fan of City of Bones, I much prefer Cassandra Clare's later works, but I felt the story worked REALLY well as a graphic novel. It was fun to relive the story through this format! Excited for the next volume.

Well, it could have been worse. It could have been unreadable.

Like most fans of The Mortal Instruments, I had been waiting for a graphic novel adaptation for a very long time. I thought we would have one much earlier than this, but better late than never, right?

This is actually a good adaptation, in terms of story, pacing and atmosphere. Cassandra Jean illustrates all important scenes that appear in the first half of City of Bones. Indeed, this first volume covers everything—or so—up to Simon’s

Although I haven’t read the original book, I knew some of the things that were gonna happen from the movie and the show.

The illustrations were really good and I will definitely read the other graphic novels in this series! 👏🏻❤
Now I'm no expert on these matters, so I don't know what I'm looking for here...
It was okay to say this is my first ever Graphic Novel. It's just a shame it's not the full version and there's a second part.

The things I liked?
- We got to see the Falcon story Jace tells Clary
- Little bits of pieces, there's a book on Peru in Magnus's room which was very fitting!
- The height difference between Jace and Clary was so cute!
- CHURCH! Anytime I see anything church related I can't help but smile...

Who knew this was so funny? I loved this first graphic novel instalment of TMI!

*big shock* I have never read any of Cassandra Clare's books, (despite owning the whole TMI and TID series) but I wanted to try out TMI in graphic novel format first before I fully committed myself to the novels which are waaay thicker.

After reading this introductory volume, I'm really very intrigued by the plot and how it will continue. I loved Jace and Magnus but I think my favourite is Alec *swoon*

I'm not the biggest fan of graphic novels but The mortal instruments is the series that got me into reading and it's always gonna be a favorite of mine so of course I bought this new release!

And well, I love Cassandra Jean's drawings and the characters really look like how I've pictured them in my head. I didn't give 5 full stars just because the story moved too fast (even if this is just the first volume, the last scene is Magnus's party, before the Hotel Dumort's fight scene).

I especially love

The Mortal Instruments is brought to life again with this new graphic novel inspired by the first novel in the largely popular series. I loved seeing this story again with illustrations and the condensed story and the whole book was over far too quickly. Overall, it was a nice adaption of the first book in series and it seemed like while they covered a fair amount of the story but at times it was disjointed and without a flow. I also thought the illustration of the characters didn’t really match ...more
Bless Cassandra Jean and her art. Bless.

I'm sad we only had something like 1/3 of the book, but at the same time I'm glad because it means nothing from the original story will be cut.

Whenever I get to re read City of Bones, in any format it just makes me nostalgic. It never gets old I just love it so much.

I really appreciate the small changes in this though to make it different, it’s refreshing and really reminds me that I love the characters so much.

I loved this SO MUCH. It helped me visualize so many different aspects of City of Bones, and the art style was GORGEOUS!!! All in all, my first graphic novel was a win!
I really didn't think I'd end up liking this.

But I did. Of course.

Me, everytime a new Shadowhunter book comes out:

Interesting to read. Provides a different take into the first book in The Mortal Instruments series.

I've always been a fan of Cassandra Jean and once again she didn't let me down. I loved the arts and the way she depicted the characters. This graphic novel cover the first 6 chapters of city of bones and so far it stayed very true to the book storyline. I'm definitely looking forward to volume 2!

Okay, I’m going to be real for a second: I originally rated the novel version of this book 2 stars. Well, maybe it was more like 2.5 stars. But, nevertheless, I just did not love it and when people saw my rating I was… met with some rather unhappy responses.

Here’s my opinion on The Mortal Instrument series: they’re fun and consumable, and they have stood up well over the years. They have good world building, action, and romance. But what grips me the most is the very complex history and connecti

Okay so as most of you know City of bones IS MY FAVE BOOK OF ALL TIME.I had high expectations since I love Cassandra Jeans art style and her artwork for the shadowhunter chronicles.I had a big problem with the way the characters looked.... the only ones that looked good and like them selves we're Jace,Alec and Simon. All the others looked like different characters.Clary has bangs and this super poofy hai

I have been waiting for this for so long! I finally got my hands on it! This was really really good. The art is wonderful, and it just gave me so many nostalgic feelings! It really just reminded me why I love this series so much. I did miss some of the dialogue that wasn't included from the original City of Bones novel, and a few scenes that were cut. I wish it was longer!!! It was a very fun quick read. I read it in one sitting, in about an hour. It does only cover about 1/4 of the first book, ...more

I just love these characters and story so much. I can recognise the faults in this series but I read it at such a bad time in my life the books mean so much to me. these characters were my only friends for so long so it was awesome reading this. the art wasn't what I expected but didn't hate it. The Mortal Instruments will always be my all time favorites.
Reading its the graphic novel is really great, because I can really "see" Jace, Clary, Izzy, Alec, Simon, Magnus etc. Cassandra Jean's illustration is beyond amazing.
One word: CLIFFHANGER! For a graphic novel too. I can't wait to buy the sequel in October. I have to wait till October for the second volume. I hope there's more than two books in this graphic novel series, because I think they will do good if Cassandra continues!(:

I've never actually read The Mortal Instruments all the way through. Goodness, I didn't even make it through the entire first book in audiobook format even though I was enjoying it. I've failed this book even when I've really enjoyed it.

However, I have finally managed to finish it in graphic novel format, and I can say that this might be my favorite version of it so far. To be honest, I can't confirm it kept the storyline in tact or compare it to how it was but from what I remember in the audio

I don't really have the time to write a full review, so I'm just going to bullet point what I liked and didn't like. SPOILER WARNING: From here on out, there may be mild spoilers for the first half of City of Bones.

What I liked:
Church! We always stan a cute, judgemental cat.
The noticeable height difference between Jace and Clary.
The extra scene between Izzy and Simon!
Simon's graphic tees, they were a nice touch and very much like book Simon.
The flashback during the falcon story!
The fact that

I preferred the artwork in The Infernal Devices graphic novel. I thought it had a better flow and was more finely detailed. That's not to say the artwork is bad in this work it just isn't as detailed and I felt like the facial expressions were one dimensional.

I also didn't like that this volume covers only a portion of the first book in the mortal instruments series. It only covered about half and there were a few scenes I felt could've been left out. The volume had a slow paced feel and without
