The heroine Carissa is a pianist who is waiting for her fiancé to return from France. The she finds out he is not coming back because he has found someone else. Carissa is heartbroken and decides to have a wild one night stand. She meets handsome tycoon and composer Ben Jamieson and after one night of passion she flees. But Ben won't give up. He finds her and tries to convince her they should give their romance a try for as long as it lasts. Carisa is fiercely independent though and she fights her strong attraction to Ben. When she finds out she's pregnant hero asks her to marry him. Carissa falls in love with Ben but she believes he will never return her feelings and that their marriage is doomed to fail.

The hero is a very damaged guilt-ridden man who blames himself for the death of his best friend Rave. But Carissa's warmth and the power of unconditional love heal him and he does the same for her. His sadness and pain is fading when he learns that he's going to be a father but tragedy strikes again and true love is put to the test.

this was one very intense emotional read n very sad ! ben has been through so much; his father was an ass, he lost his mother, then the boy he adopted as a son(not legally but he was like a son 2 him). he was already through so much pain when carissa lost the baby. it was heartbreaking, i dunno if some1 can endure all dat pain n still stay sane or the same. i'm sorry 2 say dat this was carissa's fault. u have 2 take precautions n be more cautious than usual when u're pregnant. amazingly ben did not blame her, he loved her too much 2 be angry or condemning. he was one very special man. the way he took precious care of her even b4 she got pregnant. he fell smthng 4 her right from the 1st night, maybe bcoz she was a virgin. the book was worth more than a 3 star but i did not feel so good abt it due 2 too much sadness

I read HP’s for the fairytale like vibes, so I would have never read this book if I had known how the plot went.
But I'm glad I did read it!
It was such a sweet story, even if there were some darker elements in it such as miscarriage, growing up with an abusive parent and the death of a friend But they are all dealt with in a good way. The H was the main character really. His development is what I took with me from the book.

I felt for both of them. He was so hurt and damaged and needing respite. She, so lovely and talented and also hurt but earthy. They sparked off each other but also grounded one another as well... I liked it.

Nice story but emotionally a little distant

This harlequin was good but had all kinds of sad in it. The novel mostly dealt with healing from loss, only to experience loss again. It was kind of overkill. I think the author should of re-wrote the ending. Don't get me wrong, it was good but most of it was depressing.

Carissa is a pianist and waitress, very independent and a virgin - she wants nothing more than to get by on her own and to restore her grandmother's house. Oh and of course she wants to have a hot, one-night stand. That's where Ben Jamieson comes in. He's a tortured soul, so committed to the belief that he's worthless and only likely to ruin a loved one's life, that he avoids any and all commitment. But his one night with Carissa touches him and he can't break their connection. He ends up renting a room in her house and doing what he can to help her carry her load...without stepping on her independent toes. Then it turns out she's pregnant and Ben, always one to meet his responsibilities head on, insists that they marry. Carissa wants love, especially from Ben, who is still holding back from that emotion.

Eh. I wasn't terribly impressed, but I didn't dislike it. The characters were likeable enough - I liked Carissa's independence and strength, though she occasionally reaches the overly stubborn mark. Ben was a hot mess, but it was very clear that, despite his insistence that he doesn't do commitment or stick around, he's totally falling for Carissa. It was very interesting to see a heroine, especially a virgin, be the one to pull back when it looks like there are too many emotions stemming from a one-night stand. For me, the greatest part of the book was the first 50%. I wasn't a huge fan of where it went from there...although I didn't have a problem with the pregnancy and the marriage of convenience and what not. I usually like how different authors deal with that differently. And here, you've got Carissa insisting on a platonic marriage and Ben was so considerate of her (loved that!). But this story did not turn out so fluffy in the end...it still ended happily, but there was a bit of depressing stuff going on when Carissa ends up miscarrying at 5 months...after feeling the baby move and Ben falling in love with his baby. That was pretty tragic and rotten considering everything they've been through. Especially Ben and his already dealing with the loss of a loved one. Ouch. . So yeah. Just so you know.
