4.5 stars. What a delightful read! It is a sweet, heart-warming romance that had me laughing, swooning, crying and totally entranced. Though it does have a serious side, being set in the difficult times of the late 1960's in America during the Vietnam war.

Evelyn comes from a gifted magical family where she is fortunate enough to be born with a highly prized magical gift. When her parents attempt to match her with geeky Rex, she is not in the least interested. She already has the man of her drea

Forget Me Not mixed reality with just a touch of magic and it was beautiful. I think my favorite thing about this novel, aside from the healing romance, was how delicate the fantasy element was woven into the story.

This book was a quick, sweet read that I had a hard time putting down. I’m typically more drawn to contemporary romance, however, this book takes place during the Vietnam war and I found that I really enjoyed getting a tiny glim

Revisit the world of the Gifted in this Southern love story that is equal parts happy fluff and terrible tragedy. Evelyn is what every man wants in a wife: beautiful, smart, and extremely gifted. Rex would be happy to have her ... if she wasn't so hung up on some other guy. However, after their first date, sparks fly, but their love is interrupted by the Vietnam War. I was immediately taken by these characters--especially Rex. The love connection between these two youngsters is complex and belie ...more

Totally loved this insightful sensitive love story set in the South during the Vietnam War. I've read Shotwell's novel Blackbird Summer and her short story The Chans and adored them both so I was super keen to read this novella.

Meeting characters from Blackbird Summer in Forget Me Not was delightful. I loved this book not only because of the romantic story but also because Shotwell shines a light on the emotional and psychological pain war veterans often bear in silence. I heartily commend Shot

I was SO lucky to receive an ARC of this novella. I adored Blackbird Summer, and I hadn’t realized how much I missed both it’s magical world and Em Shotwell’s characters until I read Forget Me Not.

The story centers around Evelyn and Rex, the grandparents of Blackbird Summer’s main character, Tallulah, and is set during their courtship in the late 1960s. Even though I knew the two would eventually grow old together, because of Blackbird Summer, I still found myself riveted and wondering what woul

Last year i read Blackbird Summer and the short story The Chans, and i enjoyed both very much.
I was waiting eagerly for the next book of this series, and for an opportunity to be back into that magical world.

Forget Me Not was really an interesting story. And it took me backword in time to the story of Rex and Evelyn. A bit of magic, a heartwarming romance with a background of the Vietnam war.
I enjoyed it very much. In a way, it was funny to relate this young couple to the old people i first met

Initially when I started this book I didn’t realise that that it was a Novella from the Blackbird series. I’m not sure why it’s right there on the cover of the book but anyway I can safely say after finishing this book I am more than keen to read Blackbird Summer.

The story follows Evelyn and Rex from their first meeting to the start of their very own love story. The plot itself is rather straight forward, from the blurb you can tell m

"Forget Me Not" is the third novel written by Em Shotwell. The story transports you back in time to explore the life of Tallulah's grandmother, Evelyn. This exquisite novel enhances your understanding of the Caibre Families life.

In just a few short lines you are pulled into the story as if you are personally experiencing the theme, setting and characters. The author has a way with words that enables you to become submerged in a different place and time. The book includes magic, pain, great joy,

Actual rating: 4.3/5 stars.

Forget Me Not was a short read, I read it in one sitting. This book follows Evelyn and Rex and their magical world and their fresh and sweet romance set in the Vietnam War era. The world building was phenomenal in such a short book, I enjoyed it very much and it left me wanting more. The characters were not super developed except for the two main characters, but it left a big spotlight on them as a couple. The war a

I was blown away once again by this talented author! Before I started reading this, I honestly wasn't sure if I'd like this 'Forget-me-Not' as much as I did 'Blackbird Summer' as it goes back in time to before the first one that I read over a year ago. But I should have know that she'd pull me right in from the get-go and keep me glued to my seat! ... This magical romance draws you in from the first page. What starts as a sweet romance with the appearance of a classic love triangle quickly breaks down into something much heavier--a fight to reclaim happiness after the inevitable scars of wartime. But the signature Southern sensibility and optimism that keeps Shotwell's other works in the Blackbird Summer series from tipping over the edge into darkness anchors this story too. I'm not quite sure how to classify this romance-urban fantasy-histor ...more

Em Shotwell, keep 'em coming!!

This a beautifully written love story for the real world (with a little magic)! I love that we get to see the backstory of Blackbird Summer. I was immediately rooting for Rex, as anyone would, but Em kept me on my toes.
It's a book that shows true love, like the real deal stuff, isn't always easy but it's always worth fighting for!

Can't wait to see what's next in this series!!
Thank you City a Owl Press for the ARC!

Em Shotwell has a way of drawing you into the room of her characters. She brought this story to life. Honestly, I wouldn't expect anything less from her. She is a true storyteller! She pulls on your heart strings to show you the sadness of real life and perks you up with happiness and surprise. Can't wait to read the next one!

Wow from the beginning I knew I would like this book. A family that has special gifts, and figuring out how those gifts helps each other. Rex has a gift that is not always good but can be and Evelyn gift is the best of all but when tragedy happens she can't do a thing to being back the one she loved. That was totally up to him.

I received a free copy of this book from the Librarything Early Reviewers program in exchange for an honest review.

The first line of the book compares a man's butt to a ripe apricot. Obviously, my first impression was that this was going to be a fluffy romance book (which I typically avoid). Then, magical elements and supernatural gifts were introduced and I had to go back and re-read the synopsis to remember why I had chosen this book. I didn't have to read too far before some pretty serious t

I really enjoyed "Forget Me Not" by Em Shotwell. I've really come to love this author and her debut series Blackbird. This is one of the most interesting and unique story lines I've read in a long time. Each one is well written and the characters seem to jump of the page and come to life. Each story is unique but continues to build on previous plot lines without feeling forced. I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this book, but I would gladly recommend this book, really all her books t ...more

I RECEIVED A FREE COPY OF THIS BOOK IN EXCHANGE FOR MY HONEST REVIEW......

for me this book was O.K.....
the plot was great, the charters were relatable; aside from their powers of course!
the problem, for me was that the story seemed rushed; and yes i know its a Novella, but still....
i wanted more!!!
te major part of the story i felt was lacking, was from Rex, when he stops writing, i wish the author had filled in what was happening in Vietnam, his side of things....

From the very first sentence I was already giggling at Evelyn's unique view of the world. She's confident in what she wants and has quite a bit of spunk. She has the gift of life. Everything around her thrives and lives better, even people. She wants to be with Guy McCallister, resident bad boy with an iffy gift. Instead she's matched with Rex Somersby who is absolutely the polar opposite of bad boy and has the ability to never forget a sing

I received an ebook ARC for an honest review. I'm a huge fan of magical realism and I'm so glad I was introduced to the Blackbird series. I thought the characters were relatable and well developed and their "gifts" weren't the common ones you typically see in these types of books. There is a romance between Evelyn and Rex but since it's set in the late 1960s the fear of a loved one being drafted or the dread of receiving that horrible phone call is constantly present and captured beautifully. REVIEW FROM AUTHOR-
This book was a pet project of mine. The main characters you may recognize from somewhere in my debut novel, BLACKBIRD SUMMER, but I won't give away exactly who. This story is sweeter than Blackbird with more focus on the relationship than solving a mystery, but I hope the twists will keep you turning the page! I am donating all of my proceeds from this novella to Operation Homefront (a military charity that helps vets and military families). I think when you read the novella

Forget Me Not is one I won't forget. :) It pretty much has something for everyone - the pain of love, the sweetness of love, the tragedy of the Vietnam Era, the love -- and difficulty -- of family, lots of reality with some magic mixed in... all tied together by words that flowed together beautifully and left me smiling.

I absolutely loved this book! Evelyn is in love with Guy McCallister, who is off limits according to her family. They set her up with Rex Somersby and she spends her first date with him upset and trying to stuck up. She doesn't know that she will fall in love with him. The way the story is told was absolutely genius.

They start dating after she finds out Guy married a woman in Texas. They spend a year courting and then comes the draft for the Vietnam War. Rex and his cousin are drafted. There ar

I absolutely love this book. I have not had the opportunity to read Blackbird Summer yet but I cannot wait to get my hands on it. Forget Me Not was an incredible, emotional, enjoyable, and touching read. The real life problems represented in the book mixed with the magic was perfect. My only complaint is that it's a novella and not a novel. I want more of Rex and Evelyn's story! I want all of it. I want every detail of the 6 month gap at the end. Every detail of Red's journey of recovery, their ...more

I received a copy from LibraryThing for an honest review. At first, I wasn't sure if the storyline would be interesting or how the 'gift' would relate to the forget me not title. However, after the first chapter, I was intrigued and grew to really enjoy and understand the characters and their gifts. Evelyn is matched with another who has the gift too but initially she resists Rex. At time goes by she realizes that he is a really good match for her and her love is put to the test with the war.By ...more
