Marked for Vengeance is about Alyx Rayer, a seemingly normal human working a day job and hanging out with her best friend Cinda. She is beautiful, smart and dates a rich, handsome doctor but she has a hazardous secret – spying on Isaac, a mysterious ‘painter man’ from a roof top at night. There’s more to Alyx than meets the eye, as she hides her strange scar on her shoulder and seems enraptured with the strange ma

Alyx is an angel sent to Atlanta to be near her Marked in case she is called upon to protect him. She is given rules to observe him, but have no contact with him whatsoever. Will she obey the rules? What happens if she disobeys? Will she be punished for meeting her Marked, Isaac? Does she know about his son? There are so many questions in part one, where the suspense builds with each situation. In part two, only a few of those questions are answered. Just enough to make the reader buy the seque ...more

Alyx a truly old soul, who walks among humans. As a returning soul who only gets to stay on Earth three times. Third time is a charm "no"? This being her last run on Earth she is trying it all on for size you could say. Currently in a relationship with Ben. A relationship which seems to have serious questions concerning where her heart lies. If that doesn't make her feel human, I really couldn't describe what would.

Oh my goodness... where to begin... I typically go into books that I know I'll be reviewing with an expectation that they're going to be freaking awesome and I'm not going to be able to stop until I hit the last pages. Unfortunately, not all of them live up to my expectations and I end up bummed. Luckily, that was not the case this time. I really, really liked this book and I'm ready to jump into Tethered by Fate. So to get down to it... I really liked Alyx! She wasn't obnoxious, she didn't cont ...more

I've tried to read this book. I've picked it up. Put it down. Hell I've even procrastinated this review hoping I could muster up the strength to get through it.

I'm leaving this book on my 'to read' shelf with the hope that I one day finish it.

I honestly can't stand this book. It's incredibly easy to describe a book when you loathe it or you love it but I don't know how to do my feelings justice. I think I'm honestly just struggling to cope with the fact that this book exists and someone somewher

I received Marked for Vengeance in return for an honest review from the author S.J. Pierce. Alyx Rayer’s isn’t human she was created for a mission to monitor her marked human until the time comes to remove them from earth. For the last three years she’s lived her human life having friends, a job, and even a boyfriend. She was sent to get just one look at her mark but instead she’s become obsessed with him. She spends several nights a week on an abandoned building’s roof watching him while he pai ...more

First things first, I received a free copy of this book by the author (via group Shutup and Read) for a fair and honest review. I do not know the author personally.

Now on to my review. This is one of those books where parts of the story work really well, and other parts do not work as well (for me). I am giving this one 3.5 stars but pushing it up to 4 stars, because I liked the second half of the book so much and the potential for the next book to continue on similar to the second

This book was very unique! It kept me hooked without ever explaining anything in full. I thought - well, perhaps I better read the synopsis again as this is not what I originally thought it was! (I'm not a synopsis reader as I came across quite a few that gave the book away entirely! I read the blurbs to see if I'm interested in reading the book and then I dive into the book later when reading without refreshing myself on the blurb!) Anyway,

I love books about supernatural beings!

Now that we got that out of the way, I loved this book. It has a whole other twist to "they walk among us" and I loved it. The last few chapters had me holding my breath and man if I could push the heroes forward, I would!

But the heroine is "defective", but I have this gut feeling it will be her strongest asset soon. But how soon?

Have to get those other books FAST!

I would recommend this book if you like supernatural stories. :)

Alyx Rayer is now in the midst of her third lifetime on earth, however, this time is not going to be anywhere near as easy as the previous two. In her 84 years alive as a human, she has always been able to maintain her duty as a Protector and watch her Marked without crossing the line. However, this time the pull she feels towards her new Marked, Issac, is something of which she has never felt before. Inexorably drawn

You experience the third birth of Alyx Rayer as her soul is brought to life in her third and final human form. It is a painful transformation, that upon completion, requires her to take on the immediate appearance of a 25 year old human. Each of her kind must endure this process as they prepare to take their place on Earth monitoring the existence of their "marked" human. They are created for the sole purpose of fulfilling their mission. Initially when arriving on Earth, they seek out their mark ...more

I didn't know what to expect going in to this book. The blurb sounded promising, so I decided to give it a shot. When I read the author's note at the beginning, it made me stop and think. Do we really know who or what walks among us? I know we just survived the Mayan End of the World, but have you seriously given thought to the world as we know it ending? In Marked for Vengeance we learn that there are beings who walk among us - neighbors, coworkers, friends - who were sent here for specific rea ...more

First of all I must say that I really like the cover of this book, it is simple but the colours work really well. Also it reminds me of the Hunger Games logo slightly. Anyway this book was an interesting read with a different take on angels, as they are assigned to protect one human but without interaction. There was a lot of mystery surrounding what Alyx was and her mark at the start of the book which was slowly unraveled throughout

Alyx's job is to blend in and act like everyone else. Have a job, go out with friends, and just be a human. She's never supposed to make contact with her Marked. She is there solely to watch over him. But fate has other plans.

Wow!! What an awesome beginning to a new series! Marked for Vengeance is a mysterious read, where the facts take time to get to the surface. I thought that it was a highly entertaining read and loved the authors writing style. She was able to captivate me and keep me guessing!

Marked for Vengeance by S. J. Pierce

Rating 4****

This book was provided from the author in exchange for honest literary review.

Alyx has a seemingly normal life in Atlanta. She has a great boyfriend who just happens to be a doctor, and a job she likes well enough. The only thing is, Alyx isn't human. She had been sent to earth for a purpose. She needs to see if she can finally find her Marked After all , this is her third time at life on earth and three tries is all that they allow her.

There are some things I like about this book. I really liked the character of Alyx. I found her to be approachable and realistic, even though she is some sort of paranormal creature. She is a character I could follow and relate to. I also really liked her fixation on the person she is supposed to be guarding. She is completely captivated and obsessed with Isaac. I loved this part of the book--the excitement building until they meet.

I also really liked the premise of the story. The idea of a guar

Honestly, this book deserves more than three stars but there is no 3.5 star rating. It was slow to start as the characters began to develop. The plot was treading water until the halfway point and then it began to spiral and take depth. A mix of life questions and lessons appear throughout the story. I am intrigued and plan to buy the second and third books to see where Alyx, Cindra, and Issac have in store for them

As I read the story I jotted a few notes that made me think:

First, I want to thank the author for giving me the chance to read this book for free in exchange for an honest review.

This is the first time I have not been able to finish a book I was reading for review. I just couldn't get connected to the characters. One of the biggest problems I've had is that I just don't understand what Alex's purpose is. Why is Issac marked for vengeance? Is it vengeance against him or for him? I'm about a quarter of the way through the book and I still don't know. I'm

this book was great. I bought it as a free nook book. I am dying to read the second in the series. Alyx and Issac are great characters that leap off the page. Both are feeling their way through life with out knowing why they are doing what they are doing and what it means for the pre apocalyptic world. Then everything falls apart and Alyx has to rely on instincts that she has never used before to get herself and Issac into safety. Great story, very well written. For the most part this book was a very good read. The storyline was definitely intriguing and I am interested in seeing how it ends. I did have some issues connecting with the main character, Alyx, which made it a bit tough to really get into the book. I felt more of a connection with Isaac and his son though. Either way, I would recommend this book and do plan on continuing to read the series.

I enjoyed the premise right from the beginning. The guardian angle perspective was new to me and very intriguing. The flaws were in the editing - page gaps, line spacing etc. These can be very distracting. Started a little slow but picked up. Curious to see where the series goes. I would recommend it.

Very good beginning for the Alyx Rayer series. Why is Alyx so drawn to Isaac Walsh, the man she is supposed to protect? Why is she different from every angel she has ever met? And will she ruin everything she has worked for by giving in to her draw to Isaac? Definitely a good read, and a good introduction to Alyx and Isaac. Also good prep for S.J. Pierce's next series, the Kat Walsh series. ...more
