I received a copy of this through NetGalley for my honest review.

I have no idea how to classify what I just read...and while that sounds like a negative, it really isn't. I couldn't STOP reading it. I had to know what was happening, where it was going, how it would all play out. This is the story of 40 year old artist Savannah. Her ex-boyfriend kills himself, and his family blames her. She takes up with a therapist to help her sort some things out, and ends up in a quasi-relationship with him. A

'Being a painter was like being a domesticated dog. I’d give birth to a litter, only to watch the pups be given away to neighbors, or total strangers. I’d never see them again.'

Never seeing her beautiful babies (art) is bad enough, but when one is a nude self-portrait, things get messy fast. Savannah Waters loses her ex to a drug overdose, and certainly his family and friends blame her. She didn’t break his heart, she pulverized it, she may as w

This was my first Erin Lavan read but it lived up to all my expectations. It was humorous and sweet; it was a fairly quick read too.

This follows the story of Savannah, who is a 40 year old artist. After learning of the death of her ex she goes on a bender and then ends up in jail? – that’s quite the bender! She goes to see a psychiatrist who ends up being someone more important in her life. A European vacation together can bring them closer together, but it also brings her closer to her portrait

Whimsical and fun, those are the words that I would use to describe this novel. Its a Fiction novel that has a lot of heart and will bring joy and laughter to your day. It is a great escape from reality.

First of all, I really liked the simplicity of this book cover!

There is so much in this story that fascinated me and drew me in. There is so much wit and humor laced throughout. There are real issues so that the novel doesn't just seem like some fictitious tale. Erin Lavan has written about thes

A rather feisty book from the start, Wish I Were Here by Erin Lavan is a rollercoaster ride of romance, drugs, theft, and redemption. This is a fairly short novel, but there is much packed into the story. Upon learning of the death of her ex Axel, artist Savannah goes on a bender and ends up in jail. Just how that happens is convoluted and confusing, but suffice it to say that she drank too much and let her artistic talents get the better of her. After an intervention of sorts, and some therapy, ...more

Wish I Were Here takes a snark filled, self deprecating look into the life of Savannah after her ex-boyfriend ends his life. A women's fiction book with just enough bite to feel authentic while witty enough to enjoy.

These characters were highly likeable and you are just pulled right into the story. The premise of the story is one that we see often but I really enjoyed the author’s twist on it.

There is so much depth of feelings between the main characters. There is plenty of sweet romance, endearing with longing love. You really get a sense of how much these two mean to each other.

The author includes some beautiful sections with relatable messages.

This is a refreshing novel that will leave you feeling wond

This was one of those reads that really made me feel a deeper connection than I was expecting. It really is a novel with a lot of heart and will make you think. It has light moments as well as deep moments, a great balance.
The characters, plot, and pacing were all spot on and really helped to elevate the novel. A superb literary novel.

I like the fast paced writing style that Erin Lavan has. It really grips the readers attention and keeps them for the entirety of the book.

‘Wish I Were Here‘ is a fairly short first novel written by Erin Lavan. Even though the story itself is short, you will experience all kinds of emotions while reading it, which is just what a good book should do.

At the very beginning of the story, we are introduced to Savannah Waters who is an artist living in Los Angeles who has recently found out that her ex boyfriend Axel has suddenly died from a drug overdose. After receiving the news, Savannah deals with a lot of inner turmoil and starts to

‘France, oh France, oh food bon vivant! I felt like screaming.’

Author Erin Lavan splits her time between NYC and Miami, running a restaurant public relations firm (LavanPR) - when she isn’t traveling or seeking adventure. She is an accomplished and well published food writer and suffuses her writing with her passion for experiencing new sensations
Her highly seasoned writing style can be sampled here – “How can I help you?" asked the psychiatrist. His name was Dr. Rivers. He had the poker face. T

Wish I Were Here by Erin Lavan is a short novel in which the main character, Savannah Waters, finds herself in a roller coaster of a journey. Savannah is a painter who around the time of her 40-year-old birthday finds out that her ex-boyfriend has died. This ex had a self-portrait of her naked, which she wants back, but it has already been sold. She has a breakdown of sorts, landing her in jail, ending up with her going to a psychiatrist. Her and the psychiatrist have this weird relationship whi ...more

Light and Fun, Erin Lavan's novel Wish I Were Here will have readers captivated by her characters.

The characters are real and very well developed, they make it easy for you as the reader to be drawn into.

This novel was very easy to follow. There was something wonderful about how simple it was. I didn't have to overthink things. There was plenty of comic relief in it to lighten any of the deeper moments.

I never felt confused and that is a great testament when you are introducing readers to new
