The curriculum theory in this book is rather dated. The lessons in this book are somewhat simplistic, teacher directed and not student-centered. All that being said, it is a great comprehensive book that will help the new art educator get started in a variety of media. It offers several quick lessons on techniques that could be used as starting points for more conceptual, sophisticated lessons. There is a chapter on how to organize your art room, order supplies, create relationships with families and colleagues, and set classroom policies. I would buy it for that chapter alone.
