Sissy's Romance Book Review
'THE HIGHLANDER'S VIKING BRIDE' by Cathy MacRae is book Two in the "Hardy Heroines" series. This is the story of Calder MacGerry and Katja Sinclairs. I have not yet read the previous book so for me this was a standalone book.
MacGerry and Sinclairs have been at war for awhile and now that Calder father has past, he is looking into ending this war. Katja doesn't trust to many people after the treatment she gets from her father and his people. Although her brothers try to protect her it still is a

The hardest part of writing a review is saying enough to entice you to read it without spoiling the story. This is a very good book with complex characters and a wonderful wolfhound, Freki.

Calder MacGerry never expected to be laird of his impoverished clan. His father is killed raiding sheep from the Sinclair’s land as they desperately need food. Calder has a younger brother, sister and clan to take care of and seeks a truce with Laird Sinclair. Laird Sinclair agrees to a truce if Calder marries

The story starts with the hero losing his father and becoming laird. It's an emotional start, that, unfortunately for me, gave me high expectations for the book.

The story is built around the marriage of convenience trope, which I love, and the BIG misunderstanding one, which I don't. Katja, the heroine, is forced to marry Calder to stop the feuding between their clans. Katja has "the sight", she can read auras, and she uses it to discern the true feeling of those around her. Unfortunately, she

What initially drew me to Cathy MacRae and DD MacRae’s The Highlander’s Viking Bride was the title. I love reading about Vikings and I like how the story has Highlanders as well with a good dose of history with both cultures. It’s definitely an adventure to read!

Calder wants to make peace with an enemy clan to help save his own. His duty clashes with want though as he leaves with something he didn’t expect—a fierce Viking bride, Katja. The setting was so well-done, and I love being tra

The Highlander's Viking Bride: Book 2 in the Hardy Heroines series by Cathy MacRae is an awesome Medieval Romance. I was positively entranced and entralled! Can be read as a stand alone.

Let me start me start by saying how much I enjoyed this story. I really can't remember the last time I read a medieval/scottish/viking historical that managed to transport me to another time and keep me rooted in that time frame without modern(ism) jarring me out of the period. In terms of storytelling, I can find no fault with this one. The settings, descriptions and even the accents were exactly as I would imagine.

Calder acquires the title of laird of the MacGerry clan after his older brother

Being a long time fan of Cathy MacRae, I must say she does not disappoint. This is a total gem of a story. She paints the story with so much detail. Every character stays true to their motivations and attempts to do what is right. On a fateful day Calder MacGerry becomes Laird of his clan upon the death of his father. For the hope of peace between the MacGerrys and Sinclairs he accepts the offer of marriage to Katja. Katja is a strong woman with a gift and Viking blood running through her veins. ...more

I've read this book twice now and been charmed both times. Katja has excellent brothers--who would kill Calder if he mistreated their sister. In fact, nearly everyone he meets after their abrupt wedding feels much the same. Including his family...or certainly his sister and grandmother. And a young boy whom Katja befriends and assigns himself the task of her knight in shining armor. But Calder is a really well-meaning fellow. Isn't he? And he's fallen in love with Katja almost overnight. No spoi ...more

Amazon best-selling author Cathy MacRae enjoys weaving tales of romance in the Highland mists. Her stories feature strong heroes and feisty heroines in pursuit of their happy-ever-afters in medieval Scotland.

When not writing, Cathy can be found curled up in a chair with a book or enjoying the outdoors with her corgis and maybe a German Shepherd or two. A member of RWA, NTRWA, and Celtic Hearts Ro
