Lindsay and Gideon met in a restaurant - so far, so normal.

The difficulty was, Lindsay was with Gideon's father, Alex, and they had been seeing each other for two years. Lindsay wanted to stop for the sake of Laura, Alex's wife, and Gideon insisted on it. Instead, Gideon offered to improve on whatever his father had offered - but Lindsay could not accept. After all, the tension between them was electric and she was the Damaris Woman - spotless and without stain.

One tropey eyeroller.
We have misunderstandings galore with amnesia thrown in to prolong matters.

Like Preeti said, this is one tropey story.

The tropes?
I'm the secret baby all grown up but not his mistress (the hero thinks the h is having an affair with his adopted father)

Amnesia (the hero after a car accident.)

Snowbound in an isolated cottage together

Revenge (the hero after he realizes that he had a ONS with the heroine during his amnesia period)

The heroine is The Damaris Woman - a perfume ad icon that no one recognizes in real life because she wears a turban, sunglasses, and heavy make- up.

And that is about as realistic as any of this gets.

This had all of my favorite tropes, but it sadly fell flat. The heroine didn't have a lot of personality _ her whole identity was "mother's shame" and "secret identity." The hero was either raging or putting the moves on the heroine.

The first time they meet she's with his father, holding hands. The second time, she's in a villa, where his father had a heart attack and he comes and sees her in desabillè on his father bed, well, he understands something... but wrong! And then they meet again at his father hospital.

The next time they meet he just had a car accident and he's suffering of memory loss. So they spend some time together, she knows who he is but he doesn't recognize her.

Adding the fact his father and her have a very special relationship (guess! I already knew it at page 3 what kind of relationship it was...).

After their night of passion she disappears... and then he's the reason of her job loss...

We have all the elements of a HP OLDIE (Another strange thing is she wears a suspender belt, the story is from 1994, I know for sure we didn't use it, then! ). Not bad but she was tooooooooo doormat for me, to really love the story!

2.5 stars Secret baby, misunderstandings, she’s branded a slut by the hero, he has an accident and has amnesia, she needs a spotless reputation as a model for a perfume company etc, etc. A little by the book, except it feels like a few books jammed into one with so many tropes. Good chemistry, though, when he’s not sneering at her morals. 🙄

Well, what do you know??? I found it!!! After suffering through two of this author's books, where the H and h have kids with other people, I said I'd like to discover if she writes one where they have a kid with each other. And I found one! Well, the kid won't arrive for some time, but it's on the way.,

I also said I'd like to discover if she's written a book worth more than one star. Well, we can't have it all!

With a ridiculous story of amnesia and the OM turning out to be Daddy, I think you get the idea!

There used to be a term in Hollywood for when an actor starred in one dud movie after another: "Box Office Poison". Perhaps shit author should be called "Publishing Poison"? "Bookshop Poison"? "Paperback Poison"?

Or just plain "POISON"??? Yeah, I like that one! And the antidote is one I'll gladly take: NEVER READ ONE OF HER BOOKS AGAIN!
