I enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would. This was a really good story! The characters were a little wacky, but very endearing. Gunnar was very sweet and I loved Vidalia's outlook on life. It was a fun relationship to read about and the epilogue was great!

I have to start by saying that I'm a huge fan of Bijou's, her characters and the humour that lace her books but despite all the great reviews this book didn't work at all for me.

Bijou's books are all character driven and sometimes this and the humour is all you get and it works. I have friends who’ve commented that (in some of her books) nothing happens, there's no story but I find I'm so invested and enthralled by the characters and their sarcastic humour that I don't need more.

Sadly for me this failed on all counts.

Her books are all similar and this is no exception but because the story and characters didn't work for me and the humour wasn't anywhere near as prevalent there was nothing to hold my attention.

It's completely OTT as well which sometimes works I know but not here.

Not only did this book not hold my attention but it became a bit of a chore to read and I found myself skimming parts just to get through it.
Vidalia was far too depressing and Gunnar (I can't believe I'm saying this) was just too soft and sweet it began to hurt my teeth.

This was just what I needed! If you are looking for a cute story, with OTT zany characters, one click this little gem! I laughed out loud more than once at the hero's antics.

HERO~ Gunner (Ogre) I adored him. He had a warped way of thinking to be sure. He wanted Vidalia and he did what he felt he had to do to have her. He was a big lovable dork- who was a rough, tough alpha enforcer in the local MC

HEROINE~Vidalia was just as nuts as Gunner. They were perfect for each other. She was emotionally stunted from her childhood so she didn't make things real easy on Gunner. I was rooting for her to have her HEA though and I knew Gunner was the guy to provide that

SEXUAL HISTORY~ Vidalia was a virgin. Gunner was not but he also wasn't a manwhore and he didn't engage with the club whores. ( who gave him dirty looks and accused him of being gay)

OM/ DRAMA ~ zero!

STEAM Steamy, but not an abundance of it

SAFETY Safe- neither are with others
after they meet

VIOLENCE No violence but heroine lived with her brother for years because her mom's boyfriend made a pass at her

ENDING~ I enjoyed the epilogue! It wasn't a certain amount of years later, it was more of a wrap up of their future. Totally worked for me!!

You know a book is good when you close your kindle and say out loud that was good I liked that, yeah Did I mention I was alone in my jeep in line waiting for my kids to get out of school. This book was good and I mean really good, in fact I can't think of anything I didn't like about it. I enjoyed every minute reading it, and I was sad when I finished it.

Like all Bojou books the epilogues(two) were amazing and had they each been 30 pages I wouldn't have complained. I love that we get to see previous characters in this book, and that this book was about their son Gunnar and Vi(Vidalia). This book has that great humor that Bijou is known for and is something that makes her books not only stand out but special.

While at a party Gunnar sees Vi and while she is drunk they meet and make out. Not able to get her out of his mind Gunnar finds out where she works and goes to see her but quickly realizes that Vi doesn't remember him. When a huge man with sad brown eyes walks into her job Vi soon gets the idea that he saw her make a fool of herself at the party. When she finds out what really happened she's shocked and embarrassed. When gunner asks her out (with the history that she's had) Vi turns him down keeping to her plan of ending up alone.

Not willing to take no, Gunnar comes up with a great plan to get her and keep her and make her his. Setting up his plan Gunnar gets Vi alone with him. Scared Vi isn't sure what to do, being with Gunnar brings everything she thought she never wanted to a new light but Gunnar scares her with the way he wants her and isn't afraid to do what he must to keep her. When VI finally decided to stop denying how she feels her and Gunnar get together and though she knows he can make her happier than anyone else his scheme to get them together soon backfires and Vi leaves.

But Gunnar has single minded focus when it comes to VI and he will do anything to get her and keep her this time.

I loved this book Gunnar is one in a million, his plan to get Vi is hilarious and the fact that he thinks it's not only a good idea but a plan to get her makes it every funnier, but at the same time made me love him. Vi is skittish with good reasons but I loved her and Gunnar together and I loved seeing her grow in this book. One of the things that makes Bijous books stand out is the little things. Are her books great and filled with amazing heroes and great stories? Yes, but she adds little touches to her books that make them special and memorable. One of those being Gunnar's dads and Vi's relationship and his mom and VI. I loved seeing them welcome her into their family especially knowing all she went through.

I can't recommend this book enough, it has a great romance, with a crazy possessive hero, and a sweet strong heroine. A great glimpse into the future for previous characters we loved, funny and outrageous bits that make you love Bijou Hunter's books evens more. If I had one complaint it would be Vi's sister in law, gah that woman is horrible and she's so horrible my vengeful self was hoping to see her get a little more of what was coming to her😁. I can't say it enough this book was a great read and one I will defiantly read again in The future.
*Thank you Bijou for this beta/ARC book.

This book is classic Bijou Hunter. This is the story of Gunnar, the son of Judd and Tawny from Damaged and the Knight, and Vidalia.

Vidalia is coasting through life with nothing of her own. She fears taking risks to find happiness for herself because of her childhood. One crazy night she goes with her friends to the Belly Up bar that is run by the Reapers MC. As soon as Gunnar sees her walk through the door, he knows she's the one for him. After one too many Jell-O shots, Vidalia acts completely out of character by making out with Gunnar in the back of the bar.

Vidalia turns down Gunnar when he asks for a date. So he cooks up a crazy scheme to be her hero so that she has to spend time with him. As they get to know each other, they both fall. Gunnar was so freaking sweet. I loved him.

“You’re mine, and no one will hurt you. You’re so beautiful. So perfect. I love you more than I’ve loved anyone before, and I’ll never let you go.”

Well of course Vidalia will find out the truth about Gunnar's plan and is hurt by this. She leaves and misses him as much as he misses her but she needs to know that he's true and that he learns from this.

“How long will you wait?” “However long you need. What else am I going to do? I need Vidalia Cornish, and there’s only one of you.”

I loved that there was no OW/OM issues to drum up drama. With witty banter that I've come to love from Bijou, a sense of family and belonging that is always present in her stories and two characters that love each other beyond reason, this book should not be missed.

She might have been drunk on jello shots when she first kissed me, but fate isn’t always pretty.

OTT silly!

Guy meets girl when drunk and they make out
She forgets about it all when sober
He asks her for a date and she says no

He makes up a crazy story and keeps her in his house for a few days so that she gives him a chance
Thinking she is in danger, she agrees to stay in his house

Not much character depth, of course
Writing sounds childish
Nothing makes much sense
I didn't feel anything other than boredom and annoyance

In the end, she does forgive him for lying to her and they live happily ever after with a promise of future lies :)

As you can imagine, it's like a joke... A total waste of time!

Best part?
Very short, only 128 pages, so instead of dropping it, I just skimmed and scanned after a certain point...

My favorite! quotes from it:

“I’ll never lie to you again,” he whispers against my lips.
“Yes, you will. I’ll probably lie too, but we’ll figure everything out.”

***

“Do you like my nipples?” I ask him in a rough voice.
“They taste like candy.”
“Make them hard, and you can suck them all night long.”

A great romance between two ‘normal’ people. By normal I mean people who are working class and live in trailers (as opposed to rich people or people in top careers).

Random Ramblings
•This author and her character names… can always guarantee that they will never be ‘normal’ names!
•Awww, I feel bad for him (but also kind of pleased she didn’t remember him)
•Already love this girl
•His plan B was a little excessive
•I was proud of her for figuring it out
•The H was such a sweetie!

Gunnar "Ogre" O'Keefe has met the woman of his dreams, unfortunately she was drunk when they met and she doesn't remember him. When he shows up at Vidalia's work at the Walmart deli, he asks her out which she quickly declines. Gunnar decides he has to go with plan B to properly woo her. Problem is Vidalia doesn't believe in love and Gunnar does, how can he convince her to take a chance on him?

Wonderful story. Gunnar was extremely creative on getting Vidalia's attention. I liked Vidalia a lot and you completely understand where she is coming from on her stance on love. This had some really funny moments that elevated the story. Amazing.

I really loved this book! In a lot of today's romances, there is so much going on and so much angst that sometimes you need a break from it. With this book I loved how the heroine just wanted a simple life. I feel like you don't read a lot about heroines who just want their man and a family in today's romances. I also really loved the hero and how he would've done anything for the heroine, even come up with a crazy plan to get her lol. It was really refreshing and I would recommend this book

“Wow. Will that even fit?”

If I never read this sentence again in a book, it will be too soon.

I think that I might’ve overloaded on Bijou Hunter books (even though it’s been a while since I’ve read anything by her) because every character in her books sounds the same to me now. Even when I realise the plot is different, I still feel like I’m reading the same thing. I do still like her, I think she has some great books and I will continue to read, but this one didn’t work for me.

She’s one of the very few romance authors who have managed to make me laugh, but I can’t keep laughing at the same thing over and over again. I think that my biggest problem is that all of her characters have the exact same sense of humour - which is not only unbelievable, but it also kind of kills the humour for me.

I can see why others would like this, but I couldn’t connect with the hero or heroine much. The heroine was just too damn depressing, her life, her views on life and just her as a whole.

“You’re the only man I’ve ever been attracted to. Isn’t that weird?” - Yes. It. Is.

It’s also completely unrealistic (unless you’re asexual, of course). It’s depressing (to me). And every time I read about a heroine who’s never been attracted to anyone but the hero of the book, it just makes me ashamed to read this genre. Oh, please guess - what do you reckon, do you think the hero was attracted to anyone else in his life? I mean, just looking back at my own adolescence, my hormones were completely out of control - I “fell in love” at the drop of a hat, and I was attracted to any decent male option. And hell, that’s how all the other girls I knew were. Maybe not at the same level, but I’m sure a great majority of people, male and female, have been attracted to at least one person before they turn 20 (or however old the heroine is).

I’m starting to feel like virgins are a thing of the past in romance - we now have next level virgins, i.e. virgins who are attracted to one male per life. Not the men, though. That would be just too unrealistic, and we couldn’t have have that in a romance book, could we? Who knows what would happen if that were the case, maybe we’d start thinking that there actually aren’t millions of Chris Hemsworth’s in MC’s across America, or that most CEO billionaires aren’t 20-somethings with movie start looks?

Alas, back to the heroine…

Her grand life plans were to continue being a virgin until she could finally settle with someone ok-ish when she hits the 30-year mark. She found any aspirations beyond working a dead-end job in a (what appears to be) a dead-end town as a stupid fantasy. It was just so damn depressing. And I actually love people that have this type of humorous pessimism, but with her it just didn’t work (for me). It’s one thing to expect and assume the worst for most situations in life, it’s another thing entirely to have absolutely no aspirations in life, or to not make any effort to better it because, hey, why bother?

The hero was OK and really sweet - if you can get over the set up he created to trick the heroine. In real life, no sweetness would make that OK, but whatever. The thing is, he didn’t seem to have any life outside of the heroine and a few interactions with his family members, so I just didn’t care much about him, because there wasn’t enough for me to see. Apparently, he was an enforcer in an MC, too - but, apart from the fact that he has a motorcycle, there’s not much to make me believe that.

Add in the fact that their HEA sounds more like a nightmare to me…i.e. they met, fought for a second, had sex, started looking for a house within weeks, moved in together, started on those babies and she finally learned how to cook (this most likely happened before the baby-popping, my timeline might be a little off).

“I see our babies playing with Heidi’s” - Girl, you’ve known him for maybe a week or two.

“It’d give you something to do until Gunnar impregnates you with his giant sperm” - I guess this could’ve been funny, had it not depressed me first.

“Until we have kids, what’s the rush of me being home?” - well, what else would you do? Either start popping out those babies, or at the very least make me dinner

Bijou Hunter writes the kind of characters who get married in jeans and t-shirts and have their wedding receptions at Zaxby’s (which is cool because let’s face it, Zaxby’s has better chicken than most wedding receptions no matter how fancy the venue). They are far from refined but have real emotions and reactions and don’t mind poking fun at themselves which makes them inordinately interesting. Although not as gritty as Ms. Hunter’s Little Memphis series, Right Amount of Wrong had me smiling throughout almost the entire time I read it.

Due to family history, Vidalia has convinced herself to give up on love and her dreams of a family of her own. Instead, she lives with her brother and his family, sharing a bedroom with her niece and nephew, taking care of them while working the deli counter at the local Walmart. She knows she’s not in a good situation, but doesn’t know how to change it.

Ogre aka Gunnar, is the Club Enforcer for the local Reapers MC. A second-generation Reaper, he was raised surrounded by loving yet rough parents. He’s never really wanted a woman like he wants Vi, nor has he ever had to work for one so when she didn’t even recognize him after a drunken but hot encounter at his club’s bar, he wasn’t quite sure what to do. When she completely shuts him down he decides desperate measures are required. The scheme he comes up with works wonders, but you also know when it backfires, it’s going to do so in a huge way.

Gunnar was so damned Goofy and lovable, I adored him. He may not have deserved forgiveness for his scheming, but I found myself hoping against hope she’d give find it in herself to give it to him. I liked Vi too, despite her doormat tendencies when it came to her family. I say doormat, but it’s more a case of being pragmatic about her situation—she knew her life sucked and she had plans, it was just taking a while to get it all together. In the meantime, I think she knew they took advantage, she just chose to ignore it.

As Vi got to know Gunnar, she also got to see what a loving family really felt like, which was both wonderful and a little sad at the same time. I loved how his Mom, Tawny, took the calm route with Vi, instead of coming on strong and trying to force Vi into a relationship with her son.

Gunner mainly stole the show, but Vi held her own. Although I did miss the grit just a teeny tiny bit, the humor and the characters kept me reading and I’m hoping to see more of them in the future.

Rating: 4 Goofy and Lovable Stars

Rounding up to 3.0 RATING- I used to love Bijou Hunter books. The humor, the banter… but sadly the same things that I used to love about this author’s writing seem to overshadow any actual story. I liked parts of Right Amount of Wrong but overall it seemed a bit ridiculous to me and over the top. A story has to be more than just back and forth and quick quips. The last couple books I’ve tried to pick up from this author have been more misses for me than anything and I think I’m going to stay clear of anymore. Obviously my reading taste have changed over time.

Another win!! Love love LOVED it! By far one of my favorite! I'm not gonna lie I was completely shocked by the little twist (not a bad twist at all) I think I even did a girlie scream lol. In true bijou Hunter fashion this book was amazing! I love how the hero was obsessed with the heroine. I'm definitely like always gonna read the next one!

Omfg!! Was smiling the whole time while reading this book. I laughed out loud in some parts.

I liked how Gunnar (H) was so OTT that he staged a gunman and "saved" Vi (h) coz she turned him down for a date.

It was so funny when Gunnar's family calls him out for his stalker kidnapping ways!

I loved that Gunnar was actually the son of Tawny and Judd from the Damaged series.

For any BH fan, this is a fun read!!

This book started slow and didn’t pick up too much for me. The hero’s name sound familiar, as did the information about his parent. I had an idea of who they were and I found myself to be correct when the names were mentioned. I found I enjoyed seeing old friends because I enjoyed their story in the first place. Part of me could not stand these two and the other part kind of liked them. The way these two start out is just so outrageous that it is kind of funny. I had wondered if she was that naïve or not. Gunnar is kind of an old soul, with a large heart, and dark puppy dog eyes. She is a red-headed, wary, stuck-in-a-rut, lonely young woman. These two are good together. When his family is thrown into the mix, they are even better. They stumble once or twice, but stick it out, fall in love, and get their HEA. I wasn’t sure of them for a while reading their story, but before I knew it, they had grown on me. I could see they worked together and were happy. I think their story was an entertaining edition to the Damaged series.

A Bijou Hunter MC book is always guaranteed to make me literally laugh out loud and this one didn't disappoint. If you're looking for an MC romance though, this one is extra-light on the club life. Like, it's barely even mentioned.

Just at the right time!

This book was wonderful. I loved all the humorous parts.... it really humanized the characters for me. I liked how the author gave us insight to them getting married, pregnant, and years after. I simply loved her description of their kids. What a wonderful romantic story! This book put the biggest smile on my face.

This was one of the strangest books I think I've ever read, everything seemed so backwards to what I'm used to in romance books. The only likeable people in the entirety of the story was the heroine, the hero and the heroes family. And even then were they really that likeable? I wasn't crazy about them.
Everybody else was portrayed to be really awful which probably contributed to the MC's looking less awful.

The circumstances in which the hero and the heroine fall in love is unhealthy and concerning imo. It all just seemed a little saddening really, possibly because it was slightly realistic, I liked that the heroine wasn't innocent and peppy with rose coloured glasses but she was so hopeless and lifeless that her inner monologue was just depressing to read.

The entire book, the heroine talked about how the only thing for her to do was settle for an alright guy and have babies. That was genuinely her thought process, i don't want to read stories where the women have ideals like that.

For the first half of the book she was very strong in her opinion of love, that she doesn't believe in it and thinks people just need each other, well she was very quick to change her mind on that front. As soon as she fell in love with the hero (which I'm not complaining about) she knew she loved him too and said it repeatedly, never mentioning her earlier belief that she'd carried for such a long time.

One of her biggest fears when it came to falling in love with Gunner was that she would loose her independence and become reliant on a man like her mother did, that was at the beginning of the story and by the end it seemed to me that that's exactly what happened to her too. So there wasn't even a message about independence, proving her fears wrong or anything of the sort, she just became a housewife like almost every other woman in this book.

Honestly I just don't get it, perhaps I'm missing out on some sort of alternative storytelling thing, maybe the authors aim was to shock all readers, women especially, to get off their asses and chase their dreams or you'll end up pregnant in a average marriage with a guy that will probably cheat on you. That's what I'm going to take from this anyway because otherwise this book was just dull, odd and depressing.

Oh and I love quiet, gruff, scary looking but soft inside heroes, so I should have loved Gunner/Ogre, but even he didn't do it for me.

This is sweet, heartfelt romance set within the Damaged universe. The book focuses on Gunnar/ Ogre, son of Tawny and Judd from Damaged and the Knight, and his quest for love.
As is typical of Bijou's stories, the romance takes place very much in the now, without a huge back story. Gunnar is a simple guy who formulates an idiotic plan to get the girl.
Vidalia doesn't want to date, is scared to fall in love and attempts to resist Gunnar's 'romance plan' as ill conceived as it may be.
However, she doesn't take into account how Gunnar makes her feel.
I always appreciate that Bijou never tries to push characters beyond who they essentially are. For example, Gunnar is a fighter and club enforcer so is never going to start spouting Shakespeare. Vidalia realises that part of Gunnar's appeal is companionship. She recognizes her own loneliness is a driving force in helping her to overcome her resistance to loving Gunnar.
If this is the beginning of a new series revolving around the children of the Damaged couples, sign me up, I'm in!

I loved this book. Like all of Bijou Hunter's books this one is filled with relatable characters, humour and a really really good story. And the title is just perfect for this book. 👌
Gunnar and Vidalia were so great together. Yes, he did trick her and kind of hold her hostage. But only for the best reasons. 😁
Vidalia wasn't giving her future a chance because of her past. So although he went about it in a drastic way, Gunnar gave her the push she needed to accept him and a future filled with love and all the things she wanted.
While reading this book, reference to the Reapers and Ellsberg tickled something in my brain. But it wasn't until I read the names of Gunnar's parents that everything clicked. OMG!!!! It was so awesome! What a great surprise. I know that this book is a standalone but I am hoping for lots more.
Loved it!! ❤️❤️

I received an ARC for an honest review from the author.

I love the way Bijou Hunter writes I have never read a book of hers that does not suck you in from page one. This book was no exception from the start I couldn't put it down. Its written beautifully and very well paced you get a taste and it gradually builds up. I liked both of the characters each having their own strong personalities yet such a different way of life. What I took from this book was how you can accept what you have known all your life to be normal when its not. It took one bad boy to shine some light on Vi for her to realise that her life was not normal. Yes ok he lied but in a good way and white lies don't hurt anyone hahahahha.

Love the two epilogues at the end was kind of the cherry on the cake.

5 stars as when you cant put a book down it doesn't deserve anything less.

I received an advanced arc from author for a honest review

4 1/2 stars

This story is about Gunner and Vi and what a cute couple they are. I love how the stories are always about the couples and not about other people interfering in their lives. In this story Vi doesn't believe in love and for that reason she doesn't see any point in dating, that is until Gunner does something so stupid, I mean, um... daring that she can't help but give him a chance. As always the M/C's are quirky and loveable and I can't get enough them. My only complaint, which isn't really a complaint more of whine....is please make the books longer. I love that there is always an Epilogue....and perhaps I'm a bit greedy but more story...more story please.
