Imam Husain – 61 A.H /680CE
The ever greatest revolution against oppression and cruelty through the history. A revolution that was led by Imam Husain, son of: Imam Ali Ebn Abi Taleb and Sayyeda Fatima Al Zahra and grandson of: Prophet Mohammad, peace be upon them all.
Muharram is the first month of the Islamic calendar, during which Muslems commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Husain. His name was chosen by his grandfather which means “one of beautiful character”.
“Indeed, Allah wants to take away pollution from you, O, People of the House, and purify you”
The Holy Quran – Al Ahzaab, 33:33
The Prophet indicated many times that the people of his House were the most qualified for leadership, referring to Hasan and Husain, he said “These two are my sons, and they are two Imams”. During the lifetime of Prophet, Abu Sufyan and his family and other influential families of Mecca tried to stop him in any way they could. After his death, Abu Sufyan’s son; Mu’awiya claimed to be the leader of Islamic nation. To attempt justice and peace, Imam Hasan signed a peace treaty with Mu’awiya. However immediately after signing the treaty, Mu’awiya said “I trample this treaty under my feet” and this was against Islamic Principles in accordance with the Holy Quran but even though he broke this agreement, he warned his son; Yazeed not to kill Imam Husain.
People of Kufa wrote many letters to Imam Husain asking for a help and to set them free from the brutality and injustice life that they were experiencing under the Kingdom of Yazeed, therefore and as a response to their request, Imam Husain accepted to take the journey toward Kufa. When he reached to Karbala; a nearby place to Kufa, Yazeed’s army intercepted him and his caravan. They closed all the means not be able to get any support from outside and the worse part no way to have water. On the 10th of Muharram the Battle of Karbala occurred. Imam Husain was with his family members and his companions, they were almost 150 people and on the other side Yazeed’s army more than 3000 leaded by Umar Ebn Saad. They killed all his 72 companions, his brother Abbas Ebn Ali where he showed his loyalty to Husain when they cut his two hands while trying to get some water for children. They hit his eye with arrow; hit his head with a mace and lacking the support of his arms he fall of his horse. As he was falling he called “Oh Brother” calling Husain. Until that time, Abbas was calling his brother “Imam” and that was first time calling Imam Husain “Brother”. Husain was left alone with no soldiers to support. He was injured brutally. They ruthlessly separated Husain’s head from his body, in the hope that with killing him they have won the battle, forgetting that after the martyrdom of Husain, all the lovers of freedom, patience and humanity will and are calling:
“AND HUSAIN REMAINS.”
