I was inspired to study judges after reading the story of the Old Testament and I stumbled upon this book. This is by far one of my favorite books to dive deep into scripture. I love the Old Testament and relate to the Israelites struggle to follow God while living in the world. This book does an incredible job of tying their experience into our modern culture. It’s easy to miss these ties when reading the fantastic and crazy stories through the Bible. The author tells recent stories through history as he introduces the next part of judges to show correlations in human behavior. He also explains Hebrew language and practices of that day to help you understand the why of their struggle making it easy to relate. I absolutely love this book and wish every Christian would read it.

Excellent book that points out how contemporary the lessons found in the OT book of Judges really are. This is an excellent book for new Christians, Christians looking to grow, and anybody looking for a great devotional.

This book does an excellent job of closely analyzing each (true) story from the book of Judges and explaining lessons we can learn from it, lessons that are super relevant for our lives today. It really made the book of Judges come to life for me, and its heroes, villains, and regular old people seem more real to me now. I can also learn from their examples--what to do and definitely what not to do!

Hearts of Iron, Feet of Clay is a very good commentary on the book of Judges. Before reading this book I had a negative veiw of Judges and viewed it as a sad and sorid collection of failures. Reading Hearts of Iron, changed my mind, I still don't find Judges an enjoyable book to read but I have found that though it is still sorrid and depressing it also contains many valuable lessons on the love and mercy of God and the importance of holiness and separtion from an evil culture. The comparisons between this culture seemly so far removed from our own by 3000 years is startlingly similar to our own in that it was a culture of moral relativism and depravity. Good was evil and evil good and everyone did what they thought was "right" with distasterous consequences. Good intentions don't equal good in reality, only an adherance to God oriented principles will save us from the same moral morrass that Israel found themselves in so long ago.
