Fighting Chance

Rate this book
If Tristan Chance believed in curses… He never would have denied his brother's claims that the Chance men are cursed to watch their soul mates perish, powerless to stop destiny from claiming them. And he wouldn't have questioned the truth of his body's response to Lara Montgomery, a woman who calls to every aspect of his dark, sensual nature. After all, he's been alive for three hundred years, and in all that time he's never felt such an irresistible pull toward anyone. Yet each time he sees Lara, he wants nothing more than to rip those prim and proper accountant clothes off her body and reveal the sultry vixen he knows hides beneath… And he definitely wouldn't have acted on his tempestuous arousal if he had known the family curse would put Lara's life in danger. But even alpha vampires can be wrong. Tristan might be stubborn, but he's not reckless. One bite, one taste, and he knows he can't let her go. Tristan will do everything in his power to keep Lara by his side, even if it means taking on fate itself.

Really 3.5 stars. "Fighting Chance" is a very hot erotic vampire story that includes a menage a quatre. The three Chance brothers are cursed. According to middle brother Hayden, once a Chance man meets his soul mate, they will be instantly attracted. But once they have sex, she will become terrified of him and die seven days later. Hayden knows this because he's felt his soul mate's spirit twice in their 700 year existance and had to watch her suffer through the process both times. He's searched for the whys and hows regarding the curse, but hasn't been able to find out how to break the cycle.

Tristan, the eldest brother, never believed in the curse...until he met his soul mate, had fantastic sex, and she ran as if the hounds of hell were after her. Now he's afraid the curse is true, and if so, Lara only has days to live unless he can find a cure. But between the curse, his business activities, and attacks on his life, Tristan isn't sure which way to turn or what to do. So, he'll keep Lara prisoner and ask for his brothers' help until he can break the curse.

Frankly, there was a bit too much going on in the book. The curse was very strange especially since nobody knew much of anything about it until the end of the book! The death threat/shadowy 'Other' organization situation appeared to be just thrown in without much background. My guess is the author is setting up for a story about one of the brothers, but it just seemed weird to me. I honestly think this would have been better if it had been longer and the author given more opportunity to 'flesh out' all the story lines. As it stands, it seems she had to try and jam too many threads into too little space...and the story suffered for it.

The sex was way hot and Lacey Savage did a good job of keeping the sexual tension high from the start. If vampire loan sharks (wait, isn't that an oxymoron?), curses, shadowy organizations, hot sex, and the occasional menage sound good to you...then jump on in. I'll be interested to see if Lacey Savage continues with stories about the other two brothers.

I didn't think the heroine was particularly consistent and the solutions to their difficulties are rather conveniently found - but other than that it was a nice little read-once. Contains menage sex.

3.5 stars.
Some very delicious scenes that made up for what was lacking in the story...just. What else can be said when 3 vampire brothers get involved except , oh my!!
