About the author

Prof. Syed Ali Abbas Jalalpuri was a writer from Pakistan regarded by the intellectuals as the Will Durant of Pakistan. He wrote more than fourteen books on Philosophy, History, and Religion in Urdu and Punjabi languages.
His books seemed to herald an age of reason in Pakistan and his opinions on the subjects of history, civilization, religion, philosophy, metaphysics, folklore are held in great esteem.
In his greatest work, Riwayat-e-Falsafa (Traditions of Philosophy), he tried to educate a common Urdu reader on the subject of Philosophy. This book served its purpose in popularizing the subject within the country.

سید علی عباس جلالپوری کی کتب میں سے یہ دوسری کتاب ہے جس کے مطالعہ کا شرف مجھے حاصل ہوا، میں یہ نہیں سوچ سکتا کہ اگر میں ان کی تصانیف کا مطالعہ نہ کرتا تو میں آج بھی وہی جاہلانہ تصورات میں گھرا ہوتا یہ ان مصنفین میں سے ہیں جن کو پڑھنے سے آپ ذہنی طور پر بالغ ہوتے ہیں ، اردو کے غیر افسانوی ادب میں اگر اس طرح کی تصانیف نہ ہوتیں تو شاید آج اردو معدوم ہو چکی ہوتی ، افسوس اس بات کا ہے کہ جن مسائل سے ہم آج کل دوبار ہیں ان کا حل اس طرح کی کتب میں موجود ہے لیکن یہ برسر اقتدار لوگوں کی نااہلی کہیے یا عوامی جہالت کے وہ ایسے علمی نوادر کو کتب خانوں میں گرد کی زینت بننے کے لیے چھوڑ کر کاروبار دنیا میں مشغول ہیں ۔
