When Women Give: The Adventure of a Generous Life

Rate this book
Women are entrepreneurs, highly paid professionals, and leaders in business. Many of us have skills to give. We are marrying later. Many of us have time to give. Women are also likely to manage the family money for a significant portion of their lives. Many of us have money to give.

When Kim King, a former corporate lawyer, began her own giving journey she found herself short on resources that would guide her along the way. She faced many questions:

• How much do I give?
• How do I find good organizations that are efficient and effective?
• What are some of the common methods of giving?
• How do I find others to join me on this journey?
• Most of all, she was eager to root all of her decisions in a biblical framework.

When Women Give is filled with practical advice and stories to foster growth in giving at any and every level. Kim shares openly from her own story, both from her perspective as a donor and from serving on the boards of several Christian nonprofits. If you want to be a wise steward of what you've been given, then this book is for you.

I'm a Christian woman who loves to give so the title of this book captured my attention. The book is written in 5 parts and I finished Part I: An Invitation To Give. I enjoyed the testimonies shared by the author and various women. They are from all walks of life. I speak for myself, there is great joy in giving, and I believe the Lord will personally speak to me as I read this book. How exciting!"

Parrt 2 - A Map for the Journey was an interesting read. There are 6 chapters and I learned a great deal. Listening To God About Money' How Much Do I Give?' and What Is My God-Given Purpose and Passion and the others caused me to reflect on my own journey of giving.

Great questions are provided to consider in choosing which ministries and organizations to give to. And what questions to ask, that's important too!"

Part 3 begins by providing four challenges to generosity One being fear; two is a desire to have more; three is subconscious beliefs; and four is not making a plan Four very good valid points..
Reading through the four challenges enabled me to reflect on the challenged I overcame to become a generous giver. Yes; and God has been faithful, and true to His Word concerning what is taught about giving in the Bible.

I appreciated the author's wisdom in Donor Precautions. Yes; we must be wise in our choosing to whom we give of our money, and also our time, skills, and abilities when considering serving as a Board member for an organization.

I served on a few boards in the course of my lifetime. The nine questions provided on page 108 will be useful to me should I be asked to serve on a board in the future.

Part 4 - Companions on the Journey speaks of three categories in giving: Giving with Family; Giving with Friends and Giving with a Twist.

I can relate to all three of these giving categories. Yet; I ended this section with greater wisdom and knowledge of the different aspects of giving. One question to reflect upon is: Leaving an Inheritance - a Blessing or a Danger? Yes, wisdom and discernment are required before making the decision to leave an inheritance.

Part 5 is titled The Adventure of Giving. As I read through The (Unexpected) Blessings of Giving, I recalled how the Lord blessed me in unexpected ways. Currently, I volunteer with Under the Tent, a local street ministry. Years ago, I had a sponsor child through World Vision. What a blessing to meet her while on a mission trip to Haiti. Yes; giving brings me joy, and encourages me to take my mind of myself. Appendix A: Further Reading has a list of other books on giving that I will consider reading. Appendix B through to E are useful tools to help me in my journey of giving.

I enjoyed this book, and may choose to read it again. It will remain in my Faith Library with my other books on giving.

As women, we face the same, and different, challenges as we learn to live more generous lives. Kim’s book addresses those challenges in a practical yet personal way, sharing the Biblical foundation for giving and then answering the myriad questions we face as we strive to be more generous. Her delightful, fun stories lend a reality that is purely Kim. I would recommend it to anyone who want to live and give in a joyful, meaningful way!

This book has really good information on giving, but I feel like it is more for the wealthier. I can’t make huge donations and I don’t have an inheritance to give. I have many student loans and I don’t even own a house yet. While I get the gist of the giving, I wish there was also more advice on giving when you don’t necessarily have the means. Still some good chapters in here though!

This is a practical, engaging book about living a generous life, specifically as a Christian woman. I found it highly readable, with many relevant stories.

As a past participant in a Women Doing Well study, reading this book six months later was a helpful review. I think it stands alone well too and would be a good gift for other Christian women.
