I'm always a fan of historical romances that aren't about nobility. Both hero and heroine were great, and the supporting cast was immensely entertaining. I was pleasantly surprised by how non-sitcom the heroine handled the reveal of the hero's deception and how well the resolution worked and made sense for the characters, excellent implementation of the whole "what I thought I wanted wasn't what I actually want" . Looking forward to more from Ferndale.

The Scandalous Mrs. Wilson by Laine Ferndale
Fraser Springs #1
Debut authors don’t always nail it but Laine Ferndale did. I felt taken back in time and for a change met a woman who seemed to have faced real challenges and made the best of the situation. Josephine “Jo” Wilson did not have an easy life but managed to create a life and future using what was at hand and in so doing made a better life, as well, for a number of others in the community. She was strong and strong willed with a sense of pu ...more

If the author is looking to give readers a feel for what Fraser Springs was – a town whose only attraction is the hot springs – then she has succeeded in doing so.

I thoroughly enjoyed this historical romance. Ferndale gave the genre a fresh setting by making Jo a widow and a masseuse in the Canadian wilderness of the early twentieth century. I liked both Jo and Owen, as well as most of the rest of the characters in Fraser Springs and it was fun to watch Jo and Owen discover (and struggle with) their feelings for one another. Jo is a strong, independent character, and yet still mindful of society's expectations and, more especially, being able to care for

I won this book in a giveaway sponsored by Romantic Historical Reviews. This book was featured in one of their Saturday Spotlights. I don't win many contests (none really) so I was happy to receive this from the author/publisher. I understand this is her first book. For all these reasons, I wish I could give it more than three stars but, being honest, it was just an average read for me. The MC, Jo and Owen, were both likeable and that is always a good thing. I enjoyed the setting, British Columb

I did not finish this book. It was very hard to get into and I couldn't connect with the characters at all.
