A cute and interactive children's book about germs! The book shares an overview of what germs are, where they can be found, what they can cause, and how they are spread! The book is very interactive with separate flaps that children can flip to read more and learn more specific facts about the topic of germs on that page. The last page of the book discusses "How can I stop germs?" I thought this was a perfect page to review with young children who need some education behind why it is so importan ...more

Olen kovin mieltynyt tähän Oppi&Ilo -tutkimissarjaan.

Has the cutest macrophages you'll ever see. A bit spurious in places re: antibody production and antigen presentation and MHC classes in general, but first year Immunology will set you straight. Extra points for reiteration that antibiotics don't work against viruses and viral illnesses; that not all bacteria are pathogenic (very much a minority that are, and we need the rest of them so much more than most people realise); AND that you should ALWAYS TAKE THE FULL COURSE OF ANTIBIOTICS NO MATTER ...more

"What Are Germs" has surprisingly become my son's favorite, matching his love of rockets! He seeks it out again and again!

This helped him understand why he was sick, how his body was fighting the germs, and how to avoid getting sick again. After reading the whole book, he felt much stronger and more confident in the face of germs. I was happy because it was cute, scientifically accurate, and gave him specific actions to help prevent him getting sick or spreading germs.

My son loved the flaps and

I think my LO is a bit young for this, though they do love the flaps. From an adult perspective the information seems to be presented in an age appropriate way and it's more in depth than I was expecting. I love that it included tios in what to do to help prevent the spread of germs. Hopefully my LO will be able to follow it soon. ...more

This is my kids favorite book about the immune system and learning how their bodies fight diseases. I especially love the explanation of immunizations and medications. The pictures are hilarious (to me, as a nurse) and accurate (at a kids level).

This nonfiction lift the flap book is a favorite with my nephews! I bought it almost a year ago as an opening conversation about the pandemic and why we had to be so careful. My then 2 1/2 and almost 2 year old nephews had just had their first experience with a full isolation lockdown and we had decided that we could safely open our bubble up between my household and my two sisters’ households so I could love on my ‘phews again and my sisters could get some work done. I was so happy to find this ...more
