I’ve read two of the stories before in other novella collections.
Home Sweet Home (Amy Clipston) - 4 stars
My favorite of the collection. I really liked how kind the Amish family was to Chase and Mia. A reread for me but I still really liked it!
A Christmas Visitor (Kelly Irvin) - 2 stars
I didn’t like Rocky as a character. I think this is connecting to something else? I haven’t read that series so it was a little hard to follow the characters. Also, not very Christmassy (except for the end) and not really wintry either (the majority of the novella takes place in fall).
When Winter Comes (Barbara Cameron) - 2.5 stars
The only story in the collection I had not previously read. I liked it, but I wish the couple had been more honest with each other. I did like how it dealt with grief. The ending was a bit of a surprise.
An Amish Winter is a heartfelt Amish collection of stories. I could not stop reading this book. Each tale grabbed my full attention. I was inspired. Especially, the one couple who were not Amish yet were relying heavily on that community for help. No home, no money, and barely any items of their own, a young couple struggle daily. But it's their love and faith in each other that helps pull them through. The Amish friends encouraged them in prayer, faith, and love. It was one of the most beautiful parts in this collection. Sweet, entertaining, and emotionally charged, this group of writers, have a way with words. Overall, I highly recommend reading, An Amish Winter.
An Amish Winter is a collection of three wonderful novellas written by Amy Clipston, Kelly Irvin, and Barbara Cameron. All three novellas center around broken hearts and whether they can be mended.
The characters in each novella are well thought out and inspiring. The cover of this book makes you feel like you are in Amish country and really draws you in.
I was not given a complimentary copy of this book to read and review. I was not approached at any time to post a favorable review. I have rated this book with five stars for meeting my expectations of a wonderful book that I can highly recommend to others.
Congratulations to Amy Clipston, Kelly Irvin, and Barbara Cameron for putting these three novellas together to create another outstanding book for their readers.
The rating really has more to do with my personal preferences than anything. I've found I'm not overly fond of short stories/novellas, because everything seems to wrap up so quickly.
I didn't have time to get invested in any of the the stories really, and with them being so short things in all 3 seemed to wrap up awfully quickly and kept leaving me with more questions than anything.
The last one (When Winter Comes by Barbara Cameron) was probably my favourite of the three. I was mildly surprised to see the word miscarriage in an Amish novel, and it was also refreshing to see that Rebecca went to a therapist for her issues and her family didn't stigmatize her.
I think from now on I'll stick to longer books that really give you a proper more fleshed out story.
