★★★★★ - "The plot and storyline were fantastic. The definition of the characters, and the descriptions throughout the book painted wonderful pictures. The author had a new take on demons, and kept the interest and mystery going until the end."
★★★★★ - "Matthew Harrill has created a perfect balance with a dark dystopian world full of fantastic action and well rounded characters."
Born and raised in Bristol, England, Matthew W Harrill is an international award-winning horror author. His series, 'The ARC Chronicles' consists of Hellbounce (which has received acclaim at the Halloween Book Festival, the London Book Festival and most recently the 2015 International Book Awards), Hellborne and the final book of the series, Hellbeast is imminent.
In addition to his mentor David Farland (The Runelords, The Courtship of Princess Leia [as Dave Wolverton]), Matt is always thankful to know the British author Juliet E McKenna, who has helped him countless times. He is a fan of fantasy, loving Robert Jordan's 'Wheel of Time' series. He also has a lot of time for the truly bizarre horror of H P Lovecraft, citing this as an influence on his work. He also cites the fictional author 'Hank Moody' as an influence.
Matthew has worked as a labourer, a barman, a cleaner, a joiners mate. In addition he has dabbled in commercial insurance and has for the past 12 years implemented share plans for Xerox.
When not working, Matthew enjoys tennis with his son, watching movies and television series such as Supernatural and Grimm, blogging and cookery.
Hellbounce (I love this title) is a fantastic supernatural horror thriller.
Overall, a great story with a clever and well thought out plot. Interesting characters. A thrilling adventure, which was believable, despite the supernatural element. Definitely induced plenty of ‘I can’t put this book down’ too.
I loved the beginning of this book, which introduces us to Dr Eva Ross, a psychotherapist, dealing with a very twisted individual with Borderline Personality Disorder. It certainly had an impressive Silence of the Lambs feel to it at this stage.
Later the story progressed into something resembling Clive Barker being let loose with the Bible. As a huge fan of Clive Barker and currently attempting to complete my challenge of reading the entire Bible within a year, I really enjoyed the whole demons, Hell and biblical scriptures aspect of this book. It was approached in an in-depth and descriptive way that had it feeling unnervingly believable.
I also loved that part of the adventure took me to Egypt. It is a place very close to my heart, as it is the only place I have travelled to outside of Europe, and I loved it so much I went back there two years later. I enjoyed being taken back to the hustle and bustle of the bazaars, and imagining the beautiful colours and intense smell of spices.
I highly recommend this to all horror fans. I didn’t find this story scary, but I did find it very interesting, exciting and somewhat intense at times. There are some gruesome scenes of a graphic nature, but they are well placed as part of the storyline and not just there to shock.
This felt like a book written by a very experienced author. Very impressive, and I would be surprised if this is not a huge success.
I would like to thank the author for a copy of this book, via THE Book Club, in exchange for an honest review.
The most important thing to me when it comes to books is an engaging plot. Let's put a needle in that for now and begin with the craft itself. Wow. This guy has talent. Serious talent. Putting aside genres and other pigeonholes, Hellbounce is an extraordinary feat of writing. It pulls you in, mangles your emotions and pushes your senses to the brink, and when you're done, you need a drink and a good night's rest. With the lights on.
Which brings me to the plot. Any plot would seem believable under this writer's treatment. Combining elements of fantasy with every-day normality seriously taxes your ability to put down the book to meet your usual human needs. Like getting food or a reassuring hug.
Okay, so this is not a genre I usually read. Truthfully, reading this was mentally exhausting. But see, here's the trouble. Somewhere along the line, the characters went from 'just believable' to 'downright real,' and so did the story. And I care about what happens next. Strike that. I NEED to know what happens next. Sigh. So I sit and wait for the sequel, feeling just a little bit brainwashed. But in a good way.
This was an interesting read. Not at all what I expected out of everything I'd heard about leading up into it. This is a fantasy novel hiding behind some horror roots. The story itself I think was entertaining, my problem falls more into the writing.
If I had to sum up my feeling overall with why I had issues with the writing, I would say this: "I couldn't picture it in my mind". A lot of it felt very erratic, something would happen and then all of a sudden something else would happen, and I couldn't wrap my head - imagination wise? - around what was happening. I feel like a tighter editing job might've helped streamline things, or maybe some additional narration was required. This book - as I said - feels like a fantasy novel hiding behind another genre and fantasy needs air to breathe. I don't think this book got the air it needed and ended up suffering because of it.
Now that said, there was much here that was done right. The characters, while not perhaps as fleshed out as I would've liked, were very well done, the world building was top notch, and a hook was well planted to take us along to the next book in the trilogy.
I'd give it a solid rating as a good entry point to the series, and I'm keen as to what the rest of the series brings.
I ordered this book because it was highly recommended by another author I follow Mary Buckham. I am so glad i ordered it and read it. .
What a scary ride. This book caught me in the opening and never let up. I got about 1/2 way through and thought I was at the end because Eva and Madden - destroyed the evil doers in Birmingham or so i thought. But in true fashion of evil - it reared its ugly head again.
Eva and Madden are in a head long rush to stop something they don't really understand and take us for a ride with them.
Who do they trust, how do they get out of this mess. Will they survive. I don't want to put any more spoilers in here. If you like the end of the world type of books; you cant go wrong with this one. Several times reading this book, I reached for my bible - to read some of the passages in revelations.
I will definitely be reading more of Matthew W Harrill's books.
I found the start of this book good giving us Madden but then it became Eva's story from then on and i prefer both POVs in books to give a sense of understanding of their view points.
The storyline was interesting but to me not gripping, I was fine putting the book down to look after my son instead.
I liked the story concept I truly did but I got a bit fed up with Eva and there wasn't really a lot of connection to her when I was reading.
I may look into the 2nd book but I'm not overly bothered sorry
OMG what a rush!! Warning Mr.Harrill paints some extremely vivid scenes in this book that will have certain images forever burned into your brain!! You may also want to sleep with the lights on from now on! So proceed with caution and get ready for some serious heart pounding action...
To start with. like many of the other reviewers I had not read anything in this genre ,...that said, I'm glad I did! The book centers around the question: What would happen if HELL actually froze over? Well that's exactly what's happening and the demons need to get out before it does...that means they have to take over the Earth. How you ask????You are about to find out!!!
From the very first page you are grabbed and thrown into the book through wild car chases, confrontations with crazy possessed husbands. demons, hell spawn (or hellbouncers) and nothing is as it seems.
The story starts with a wild car chase that changes Madden Scotts life forever. Even he doesn't know what has happened,. But soon enough you will ( can't give it away you'll have to read it)
Next you meet the main character Dr.Eva Ross who is a prison psychologist who deals with the absolute worst kind of criminals the craziest and most deranged people in the system. Her job is to find out what makes them tick. She thinks she has a normal life, job, husband, home, but soon enough all that will change. After a frightening confrontation with her seemingly possessed husband Eva runs to safety at a hotel until she can figure out her next move. Looking for someplace quiet to have a drink Eva meets Madden and the story begins. What starts out as a chance encounter at a bar leads to chaos and non stop action. We follow Madden and Eva across the world through all kinds of terrifying and wild adventures from the start of the book in Jamaica to Egypt to Afghanistan and every where in between. Our heroes start out regular every day people and soon find themselves having to do battle with the worst demons in hell. They meet many different people some say they want to help them others to capture them. Every where they turn they are running into demons and having to fight them off .Who can they trust? Where can they run? Is anywhere safe? The demons are trying to open the gates of HELL permanently and need both Madden and Eva to complete the opening. Will they open the gates so the demons can permanently take over Earth before hell freezes over or will our heroes save the day?? You will have to read it to find out!!! Just don't try to read this in bed and go to sleep afterwards,...your adrenaline will be pumping too hard
Dr Eva Ross, a prison psychologist, works in Worcester, Massachusetts at an ageing facility. Her boss, the brilliant and often unorthodox Gideon Homes begins to make decisions that Eva is forced to question. Between the trials at work and her loveless marriage, Eva is forced out of the life she knows.
She encounters Madden Scott, a drifter with irascible charm and very quickly it becomes apparent that all is not what it seems. Her life descends into chaos as everything around her crumbles into a new reality and the secrets that were barely hidden under the surface all become revealed in a series of chilling incidents.
Join Eva and Madden as they undertake an adventure that takes them through nightmares and across continents as they are thrust, without choice, into the shadowy world of Anges de la Resurrection des Chevaliers, the last barrier between earth, and what lies beneath.
My review:
I really like the way the pace builds from the very beginning when we meet Madden during a thrilling car chase and then Eva at her place of work. One of Eva's patients is a very disturbed individual with Borderline Personality Disorder, which struck a chord with me as I've previously worked with people who have various mental health issues including BPD.
As the story unfolds and we follow Madden and Eva on their adrenaline fuelled adventure from Jamaica, through Egypt, to Afghanistan (via many other places) it's clear the author knows his characters very well. Hellbounce is intelligently written with fantastically detailed descriptions, particularly during the more horrific, gory parts of the novel.
As a fan of TV series like Supernatural and Grimm, this book was right up my street and I thoroughly enjoyed trying to identify the demons among the characters. Hellbounce is perfect for readers into the supernatural and/or horror but I'd recommend it even if they are not your favourite genres. Try it - you might just be pleasantly surprised!
I'm so looking forward to reading Hellborne, the second book in the ARC series, very soon.
*Thanks to author Matthew W. Harrill for providing me with a copy of Hellbounce in return for my honest review.
Right from the off the storyline really draws you into the book and was very fast paced and packed full of action.
I loved the beginning of the story where we see Eva Ross in her work environment where she works with the criminally insane. It was a great starting point for the story and from there on the story gets weirder but even better.
The author does a wonderful job in his descriptions in the story and as a reader I found a lot of the gory parts in particular I could easily visualise the scenes in my head. Hellbounce would certainly be great for the screen.
There are quite a few characters in this book which along with Eva we have to work out who's trustworthy and who's not as you will soon realise hardly anyone is who they seem.
Hellbounce is actually the first in The ARC Chronicles and there is a second book available in the series called Hellborne so will be very interested to see where the story takes us in the second book.
For any true horror fans this really is a must read.
Many thanks to The Book Club and the author for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This supernatural thriller is a ‘must read’ for fans of the genre. It takes you around the world to some unusual places. I sat up late at night reading because I couldn’t put it down. Matthew W. Harrill has a bestseller in the making with Hellbounce. It is well written and the pace is steady, full of twists.
Stories with unnecessary violence and gore are not my first choice, but the author has concentrated on a good storyline instead of relying on shock and horror. I didn’t find it terrifying, but rather an engrossing thriller. It keeps you reading to find out what happens next.
In my honest opinion, the premise of the story is sound, and it makes for a fantastic read. When you boil it down - you are left with a very entertaining book and that is what counts.
Hold on to your seats and take a ride to hell and back. A prison hospital psychologist spends a romantic night with a man she simply cannot remember. When you think her life could not be any more complicated, all hell breaks loose and she finds herself on a mission unlike any other. This book takes you on a quite extraordinary ride all around the globe and right to the gates of hell. if you desire to know why fallen angels and the like are trying to escape, I urge you to read the book. This is not your mainstream, run of the mill story about evil and the fight for earth.
I found the start of this book confusing and had to go back a few times before I could get into the story but the more I read the more I enjoyed. It was fast paced and kept moving putting the main characters into difficult situations. I enjoyed the concept of good against evil and the race again time to save mankind.
I have only given this book 4 stars even though I enjoyed the book and would recommend it to others because I found the start slow going and confusing but also because I couldn't warm to one of the main characters, Dr Eva Ross, I'm not sure why but perhaps I felt that she didn't display much emotion when faced with the destruction of humanity.
This book really grabs your attention and holds on tight! While it isn't my usual genre, it came highly recommended and I was not disappointed! Hellbounce takes you on a wild ride and Eva and Madden are written to make you NEED to know what will become of them. I found myself grabbing every spare moment to read "just a few" more pages. A talent for writing and a seriously active imagination will take this author far and I cannot wait to see what he comes up with next!
WOW,This isn't my typical genre. I do however like demon stories that why i choose to read this book and i am so glad that i did. This story in nothing like i have read before. I was searching for new authors and genres to explore my mind through books and found this author. And it's Excellent!
We have the main Character Eva Ross, A psychologist at a prison for the meanest of men. She leaves work stressed from the days events and goes home to more of a mess. She believes her husband is having a break down. She sees the house boarded up and He is ranting an raving. Brian and her are H.S.sweethearts. The typical jock/cheerleader relationship. He has a job and has had his indiscretions but she thought they were passed that. he always seems to be trying to prove his value, but she doesn't care she loves him. But now he wants to lock her away in the house. his prisoner. She needs to get out. There is a knock on the door.. This is her chance but when he opens the door she gets more info that isn't good. He has been with her co worker and she is pregnant with his child. She is pissed. He is still cheating. How did she not know this. he wants her captive and to care for this child as her own. he tells her hell meet her at a restaurant and leaves. This is her chance running around trying to find a away out. Crying and upset pissed she finally escapes before he returns and flees to a motel. This will be her sanctuary until she finds out who she can trust and away from Brian. Oh but little does she know this is the start to a world she didn't know existed..
She goes out to unwind, and runs into a man, Madden Scott. But after that night she doesn't remember him and panics. she was raped. She calls her boss and the police which don't seem to believe her. And when leaving the prison her boss knows she knows and tries to trap her, but the amazing Madden shows up. She doesn't recognize him but he helps her escape and explains why she cant remember him. What is Madden?
Madden and Eva's journey to figure this out leads them into things they wouldn't dream of being real. The scary and unknown, the encounters they have are dark! Bad things happening all over. Demons entering the world killing anything in its path to find them. The forces, yes demons, that want to take over the world by opening the gates to hell and unleashing the evil within it.And will stop at nothing to find them, but why are Madden and Eva the key to it all? And agency called Arc lends a hand to help them discover things along the way. Come find out for yourself. Will Madden and Eva be able to stop the demons before the gates are opened or will they destroy everything and bring hell with them?
I loved this story! It keep be intrigued and at times a little scared but i couldn't stop. I will be definitely following this story. I recommend for the mature audience. This isn't for the faint at heart. It is dark and twisted but leaves you wanting more.
In this read we get to meet prison hospital psychologist Eva Ross, as psychologist she has dealt with more than her fare share of sinners and saints.
Well okay I lie no saints just sinners, but I got your attention didn't I? Now back to Eva, from the corrupt, the insane, the downright nuts you name it the list goes on and on, Eva has had the chance to step into their minds and try to unlock the demons.
Then suddenly those around her become those that she cannot trust and instead they start to exhibit the same characteristics she has seen over and over again. The only way out is for her to turn to a stranger , a man whose name she is incapable of even remembering yet, he is her only sanctuary in the hell her life has become.
I have always been a very big fan of the horror world and all the juicy psychological thrills and spills that goes with it, so much so that everyone who knows me will know I can watch the scariest of movies, get up, switch off all the lights and go get into bed, without once checking the closet or taking a peek under the bed!
Likewise when it comes to reading, I never get the I feel like am being watched feeling to the extent where I truly have to look over my shoulder, nor do I jump out of my chair when the phone so much as beeps with a text message, but with this read all of the above happened more than once!
From the start the read was entertaining as all heck! I was on the edge of my seat from the start go and I did not move from the suspense spot until the very end. This author knows how to get your attention, hold it right through till the end and man oh man does this author have talent with a capital T!
The book was as hot and emotional as it was downright spine chilling. More than once I wanted to stick it in the freezer and pretend the hell was frozen but I was simply incapable of doing so, because as I said this author hooks you and hooks you fast and hard, there is no way you can stop reading once you start.
I highly recommend this read for all fans of reading, and heck if you are not a fan of genre this is the book that will draw you in and keep you trapped for a long time, and feeling every single moment of fear, uncertainty, anger, rage and suspense.
The book also has a powerful message of no one is ever exactly as they seem and once the true person is revealed all hell will break loose but it comes down the survival of the fittest , just make sure that 's you!
A truly mystery filled, suspense packed, on the edge of your seat, toe curling , blood curling, screaming my head off read, and an absolute masterpiece of a book. Best of all this only part one, so there is a loads of more kick ass awesomeness to come. All I will say is Matthew Harrill get your ass back to writing as in NOW!
5/5 star review " Hell on earth doesn't come close to what she's about to go through"
HELLBOUNCE I first ‘met’ Matthew Harrill during a Facebook event where he was posting and discussing his ARC Chronicles Trilogy. I was not very interested at the start. I simply thought I would stick around until my own takeover was scheduled to begin. Horror is not my favorite genre, but Mr. Harrill was so engaging, charming, and downright hilarious, I immediately became involved and the hour flew by. I ended up winning a Hellbounce eBook and started it the following day. We became FB friends and every so often Matt would ask how I was enjoying his story. I suspect he was trying to convert me … envisioning my new FB page: Former Romance Writer Spurns Love for Gore!” On page 1 of Hellbounce, the reader is introduced to a questionable fellow, Madden Scott, in the first paragraph. Is he a criminal, a gangster, or is he just misunderstood? He dies, but there is no body to be found. Hmm … we are immediately intrigued. Next we meet a prison hospital psychologist, Doctor Eva Ross, whose patients make “One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest” crew look like innocent preschoolers! In the subsequent chapters, Eva’s world is suddenly turned upside down as her boss, as well as her husband, start to exhibit increasingly disturbing behavior. She is forced to flee and by chance meets a mysterious stranger (devastatingly handsome and sexy, of course) who should frighten her, but doesn’t … there’s a connection, an inexplicable bond of trust as well as attraction. They share a night which should have been memorable, but was not … for reasons you could not possibly guess. Mr. Harrill has certainly done his homework … centuries of religious beliefs including Biblical references, Heaven, Hell, Angels, demons, good, evil, the Apocalypse … it’s all here. As the couple is on the run, many exotic locales are explored and numerous chases and clashes with Demons are described. Matthew Harrill is a gifted writer; his style is so intensely vivid! You. Are. There. As the story unfolds, it is a psychologically thrilling, nail-biting, blood-curdling, roller-coaster ride as you see the smoke, feel the heat of the flames, and smell the charred flesh. (Sorry … trying NOT to leak any spoilers, but there is a bit of bloodshed!) Regardless of what religion you follow, or none at all, you will be affected by this story. No one would argue the fact that there is tremendous evil in today’s world. Is it the result of Satan, demons, or just the crazy guy who lives next door? Hellbounce will force you to think about all the possibilities as you are nervously glancing over your shoulder at night, walking down a dark street. Hellbounce was a pleasant surprise, and there is a lovely romance woven through the devastation, which was quite satisfying to me. I enjoyed it immensely and have already started Book #2.
I was given this book via THE Book Club on Facebook in exchange for an honest review.
I can honestly say that I have now become a HUGE fan of the author and I am very much looking forward to reading the next two books in the Arc Chronicles series. If you love demons, the supernatural, the fight between good vs evil and true horror all mixed in one....well this is the book for you!
What I love about fiction and particularly this book is that sometimes you have to suspend your beliefs, go beyond what you know to be true and immerse yourself into some unreal dimension where reality mixes with the stuff of nightmares. This book did all that and provided a fantastically written story to boot.
I loved the main characters in this story. Eva Ross is no fool. And Madden...well what can I say...I think I have a fictional crush on this one! Hard as nails but vulnerable and funny and well...a brilliant partner for Eva in her journey to stop the apocalypse. I also really liked Janus, who we meet halfway through the story and his importance in the story cannot be overlooked.
There are so many other characters and sub-plots that I could mention but I am afraid my review may turn into a mini essay on why I am now a follower of this series...so I won't bore you to death on that front. I would, however, highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys the horror genre. It was well written, fast-paced and a bloody brilliant read!
I am really looking forward to reading Hellborne next and by the time I finish that, Hellbeast (Book 3 in the Arc Chronicles) should be finished!
Author Matthew W Harrill sets a serious tone of horror with the ease only a great, great writer can do.
Right from the beginning when psychotherapist, Doctor Eva Ross calmly interviews a prisoner with a tendency for the macabre (and that’s putting it mildly), to her going home and finding her husband had gone quite insane (and that’s putting it mildly) which drives her into the arms of the dishy Madden Scott, a man with a very strange ability to mess with Eva’s mind, makes Hellbounce a rollercoaster nightmare ride from the get go.
But that’s not all. Throw in demons and portals and the Nag Hammadi. Add an array of unique and memorable characters, each of whom will grow on you as they race against time from one end of the world to the other. And coupled with an engrossing mystery about Eva and Madden’s connection to Hell unleashing itself and you have the perfect edge of your seat book with nerve-pounding suspense at every page.
Hellbounce is extensively and smartly researched, masterfully written and absolutely transfixing. Matthew W Harrill will have you feeling the fear but still you’ll read it with your eyes wide open and your heart hammering away because looking away is not an option. And he’s guaranteed to do it all over again and more in Hellborne - The ARC Chronicles Part Two.
One powerful journey. This Author really sets a fast pace that weaves in and out of the edges of hell.Dr. Eva Ross works with the mentally twisted everyday. Little does she know the whole world is fast becoming that way until she arrives at home and her husband has gone mad and takes her prisoner in her home. She knows she must escape but how and when? .There is a knock on the door will it help her? Oh what a story. This is a rather long book but I stayed glued to it for 2 days. I had to know I just had to know where the Author was going to take me. My journey with him was wonderful we went to countries I have only dreamed of the scenes never stopping in there detail and action. And Madden Scott my new book boyfriend. He is one handsome man that has been to hell and back. He is captured and captured again and almost killed and totally controlled by the very demons they are trying to save the world from. Will he make it out? Can they save the world as hell is freezing over and the evil needs a new place to live. I shall stalk this Author in all the good ways just to see where we get to go next. Thanks for a wonderful read, a remarkable journey and thank you for Madden Scott. I tell you this book is worth every dime you pay for it. There are many pages to get lost in for hours. Thank you Matthew Harrill for a wonderful read
Hellbounce (the ARC Chronicles Book 1) is a thrill-ride of an adventure. It takes you across the globe in a race against time effort to stop the end of the world. Intriguing from the first page, where we meet Madden (the handsome criminal you can’t help but like), I was completely hooked by chapter 2 with the introduction of Dr. Eva Ross. From there, the dominos start falling and they don’t stop. The chilling tour through the hospital for the criminally insane where Eva works, leads into an even more disturbing confrontation at her home. One dark, unnerving event carries into the next, giving Eva and Madden, and the reader, barely time to catch their breath.
Heaven & hell, angels & demons, car chases and tentacles—yes, I said tentacles—were depicted so well. I could fully visualize every chilling scene. The author has clearly done his research on biblical end times and I loved his take on demons. The scares and gore were wonderfully done. They were intense at times, but never once over the top or gratuitous. As Eva unravels the unnerving plot, you’re frightened right along with her.
Hellbounce was a real treat. I look forward to reading more from this talented author.
This is for sure a different type of book. Love demons these guys were quite interesting to read about in a different view.
Have to say I love Eva. A strong female character in the midst of the world ending thanks to demons. Her husband is the perfect jerk to hate. I really enjoyed how he went a tad crazy scene. Yup no spoilers in this review!
Eva then runs into Madden who she has a hot night with but remembers known of it! Madden is a great well developed character. But what the heck is Madden? If you want to know you need to read this book!
Eva and Madden pretty much go on a fantastic adventure trying to avoid being killed. They travel everywhere trying to stop the chaos that is starting the chaos on earth.
Then they run into the ARC....Are they on the same side or are they against them? Either way the ARC agency is one of a kind.
I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Loved the characters and the story line was perfect and kept you wanting to devour it to read more. Can't wait to read the next one. Highly recommend for anyone who likes demons, horror, end of the world, just plain want something different.
I thought I would give this story a try on the word of a friend. Normally, I am not the type who would delve into this kind of book, but it was intriguing right from the start. Eva's unexpected shock in the beginning with her husband sent me on the edge of my seat, where I remained for several hours!
I found myself devouring this faster than most other books I read and I was VERY glad to hear that there is MUCH more to this series on the way. I have no doubt I'll be buying each book as soon as it comes out now.
For those who have grown tired of the same type of predictable writing when it comes to supernatural books dealing with demons and the struggle of good versus evil, etc, you'll find this tale to be refreshingly different. I can now proudly say I'm HOOKED ON HARRILL!!
Can you say Awesome?! Matthew W. Harrill sure knows how to keep you on the edge of your seat waiting to see what's gonna happen next! What an amazing author! This book is unlike anything else I have ever read when it comes to demons. It was amazing!! It's madness at its finest. I guess some would think it's Stephen king scary but I think it had just the right amount of scary and gruesome scenes and there was even so sex. There was betrayal and awesome fighting and killing going on! I was completely sucked in and captivated by every page I read! Definitely a MUST READ!! I swear he's got a bit of everything and it's not what you would expect to be inside these magnificent pages of this book! Read it you are gonna love it! I definitely want the next book! Cuz with demons it ain't ever over!!
I was given a copy of this for free in exchange for a fair and honest review...
Wow!! I love a good story about demons , evil versus good, gets me every time... This story did not disappoint me... Thrills, frights, blood, gore, horror, good stuff!! It was well written, the story flowed nicely... I did get a bit bogged down at about 60% but I think this was due, more to the fact that it was 2am and I was having a hard time concentrating, than the story.... The characters where strong and easy to love or hate.. I would have like to have gotten to know Madden a bit better but that's cool... All up I would have very happily paid a few bucks for this story... Highly recommended to everyone who likes a wickedly good story!!
Eva Ross is a prison hospital psychologist, working with the worst of the insane. However, the rest of her world was nice and orderly until everyone around her starts acting strangely. She’s forced to escape her home, her abusive husband, and her psycho boss and rely on a stranger she can barely remember. She becomes embroiled in a world she never thought existed, a literal hell on earth. HELLBOUNCE is a combination of apocalyptic fantasy and psychological thriller. The writing is tight with an original style which captivates the imagination. I don’t want to give too much away as HELLBOUNCE is a thrill-ride you’ll have to take on your own.
I didn't buy this. Mr. Harrill gave me a free copy because I am going to write an instrumental rock song for him, WHICH I PROMISE TO FINISH AT SOME POINT. Anyway, I wanted to stop by and leave a review.
This is an F-ing crazy book. It's violent, it's gory, it starts out with a lot of creepy, confusing stuff... but it gets pretty interesting. It's kind of like The Da Vinci Code meets Aliens (the movie, i.e. the sequel to Alien) meets a survival horror video game. Or something. I don't personally like horror, but it kind of turned into a supernatural adventure/thriller that was pretty neat. Overall, not my favorite genre but I think Matt pulls it off.
A tale of pure horror, crafted by a new horror genius. Matthew W Harrill serves up a well written and chilling story in the first novel of this forthcoming series. picked up by chance as I like to find new authors and the gems they can deliver, and Matthew doesn't fail. Gripped from the opening chapter and following each character develop, though twists I didn't see coming but really made the story. I can't wait to read the second and third book in this trilogy. Well done Matthew and I would recommend this to many fellow readers.
Fantastic read, well paced and engaging throughout. Vampires and werewolves, as much as I love them, have been done time and time again in the fantasy genre, this time we are talking about real demons straight from the depths of hell! The concept of Hellbouncing is brilliant I bonded with Eva and Madden instantly and was willing them along on their journey all they way. I'm eagerly looking forward to the second instalment I feel there is a whole lot more to be revealed. I would definitely recommend the ARC chronicles to all
I was given a copy of this book by TBC for an honest review. I have never read any horror books before so was a bit dubious about what to expect. However I was gripped from page one. I'm pleased I haven't got a weak heart because there wer times when it was beating 19 to the dozen! The characters were well drawn and I particularly liked Eva, a strong female. What with car chases and meetings with demons, I had no idea what was going to happen next. I would recommend this book to all horror fans who also enjoy a touch of romance. I will definitely read book 2 to see how the story continues.
This is not my typical choice of book but it is always great to try new authors and genres.
The characters develop well from the start and are strong, quirky and in many cases bizarrely likeable. The storyline is fast paced and the writing style easy to read. Well worth taking a look I would say and roll on the next instalment.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading Hellbounce- this first book in the ARC trilogy from Matthew Harrill. The book is pacy and exciting and you are left on the edge just wanting more. Matthew is a very talented author and deserves to be very widely read.
