Pathways of the San Fernando Valley II: An Eclectic Collection of Architectural and Nostalgic Journeys, Sprinkled with Trivia -- Within and Radiating From -- the San Fernando Valley

Dear Reader,

With a sense of pride and, perhaps more so, relief, after seven plus years, we uploaded Pathways of the San Fernando Valley, e-book version, on Thursday, May 11, 2017. A print version, trimmed, is on the horizon. Pathways is a three-volume survey of the architecture and, to a lesser degree, history of the San Fernando Valley supported by 1068 contemporary and historic photos and text, endnotes and bibliographic entries. Pathways is intended as a comprehensive hybrid of academia and reality written in a friendly, colloquial newsy style. Scores of sidebars, some personal, of varying relevancy, were added to make Pathways far beyond a list of “buildings”. Traditional editorial wisdom on the boundaries encompassed by a work have been violated — Why compartmentalize the adventure of learning? Community pride is respected. Spiritual and intellectual connections are encouraged. Entries are arranged along major and minor lanes to allow for leisurely safaris, treasure hunts if you prefer, within and beyond the Valley. Yet, the adventurous reader may easily follow a pick-a-page, any page, style. The e-book platform allows for mobility, updates and corrections, informational and GPS links.

Pathways I scans the southeastern Valley, Universal City, Griffith Park and the Cities of Glendale and San Fernando.

Pathways II focuses on the southern Valley between Ventura and Victory Boulevards, the City of Calabasas and the mountain areas along the Topangas and the Mulhollands.

Pathways III covers the mid and northern Valley from Vanowen Street to the foothills, the City of Burbank and the Verdugo Hills and routes through Box Canyon to Simi Valley and The Old Road to Valencia.
