Nice enough sports romance with well developed characters. Still there was a little depth in the story missing for me but I assume that is just me and many others will enjoy it just as it is

This book was part of the book " Dark Desires: A Contemporary Romance Collection Full of Bad Boys, Bikers, Billionaires…"
The anthology is quite a bargain with 22 novels for just 0,73 Euro/0,82 Dollar - at first glance. Once you start reading you’ll notice that the authors did without anybody proof reading, editor or somebody with a knowledge of grammar. There are so many mistakes in regard to sequence of tenses, difference of your and you’re, spelling errors (he went passed (meaning:past) his ca

I've had so many books to read lately that I seriously don't know were to start. Do I start a book from a new author, do I begin with a to go author? Do I start a new series? Or do I keep reading from a series that I've already know of?
Well... The choice isn't easy but I gotta start somewhere so... Let's dig in.
As you already know, but if you don't I'll tell you, I really love this author. Every single book from her is magnificent and intense. J. H. Croix is the one. Her writing is hot and sas

I loved this! I would have liked a bit more story, but overall it was good. The issue I had with it was that it needed to be better edited. There were spelling mistakes, open ended sentences going nowhere, and several missing words from sentences.

Liam is a transplanted Londoner in Seattle with his friend Alex, who have been recruited to play soccer (football to Liam) and he has torn his ACL. He has to have surgery and meets with the surgeon, who happens to be a single, beautiful woman who has n

⚽💙

Liam and Olivia were absolutely perfect! He definitely knew he wanted something with Olivia and he never gave up on her. Olivia finally found someone to get her out of comfort zone and Liam was the right guy for it. Such a great book. Can't wait to read about Alex and Harper next! 💙

Great Read

I really breathe chemistry between Liam and Olivia. They were a cute couple and they lit up the pages of this novel. The story and dialogue were well written.

Turned out to be pretty good

I wasn't sure I'd finish this when I first started reading it. I didn't like Olivia, and I definitely didn't like her lack of professionalism. I also wasn't overly fond of some of the odd terms and descriptive words the author used. I suppose they were "British", but they seemed odd and out of place. I definitely got tired of Olivia's constant and very repetitive inner dialogue about why she needed to keep pushing Liam away.

I'm glad I forged through though, because wh

I enjoyed this book more than I thought I would. Having just read and enjoyed a book with a very similar premise (Challenge - another free Kindle find), I was curious how reading them almost back-to-back would be. Well, I liked some of the same things about each, and I was irritated about some of the same things too.

Pluses:
* Really liked Liam. Yes, cocky and arrogant, typical alpha H and all that. But just so amusingly confused as he sorts through all these emotions
* Liked Alex too. Both were r

Brit Boys Sports Romance is the new series from J.H. Croix, and her trademark emotional scenes are present all throughout THE PLAY. A sports theme is skillfully interwoven into an engaging love story, which results in interesting plus very romantic scenes. There is always believability during whatever happens, and I was totally pulled into the lives of the main characters from the start. Earnest feelings and genuine responses had me wanting the British footballer and the American surgeon to not ...more

J. H. Croix is an amazing author that connects you to her stories whether your in Alaska or Maine with her previous series or in Seattle with these sexy British soccer players. Liam Reed and three other British soccer players were traded to a Seattle soccer team after a great season but for one game. Liam had just lost his mum and now facing a knee injury that could damage his career. When he meets his surgeon Olivia he feels more alive and and an instant attraction and knows he has to have her. ...more

One of the things I hoped to do this year was do a review of every book I’ve read this year. Well, sadly I don’t think I’m going to make it, I’ve simply read to many to keep up. So I think at least I can do a couple of lines on the books that don’t get a full review.

I have a lot of this author’s books as she often offers different ones for free or a very good price so I’ve been ‘collecting’ them for a few years now but only read my first one a very short time ago. And while reading I wondered wh

Love From Across The Pond

Football or Soccer the name means something different to players across the world. If you listen to everyone else the americans have it wrong. Maybe the other countries are right....

Liam is a brit by birth and he is know to be a great "footballer" when he is sent to Seattle to play for a US team. The game he plays is what we call soccer and the brits call football. Are you confused yet?

While in living in Seattle he meets Olivia and is out of his depth. She is highly inte

Another awesome book about the Brit footballers (soccer) who were playing for the Stars. This is the story of Tristan and Daisy. They were drawn to each other with a combustible chemistry. Tristan was a player who didn’t do relationships and Daisy was looking for a happy ever after. They had a scorching kiss in the stairwell of a hotel a year before and Daisy had been avoiding Tristan ever since that kiss.
Their relationship started when Tristan told Daisy he could give her an organism and they c

Great start to the series

This is the start of a series of books about British soccer players who come to Seattle to play. This is Liam's story. Liam is unsettled due to a recent loss in his family. He suffers an injury and his surgeon is Olivia, who he falls for instantly. You'll have to read the book to see how it all shakes out. This is the first book I've read by this author, but it won't be the last. It is written from the both the hero and the heroine's viewpoints. I loved how the author u

Another great love story by J.H. Croix. This was a bit of a departure from her previous books. You don't get the beautiful scenery of Alaska but you don't need it in this book. All I can say is a want an Alex whispering Luv to me in his British accent. This story takes place in Seattle and all about footballer, aka soccer for us US fans, Alex and his Dr. Olivia Bowen.
This story had all the feels and I needed it after the last book that I read leaving me with a WTH feeling. I could feel Olivia's

2.5 Stars for the Brit

I love a sports romance, love a British H and a little controversy surrounding a new relationship BUT this was so slow in the beginning.
Liam Reed has just done his knee. He's a British soccer (yes soccer - footy is completely different to soccer and here in Australia our footy is again completely different to US footy!) player who's not long joined a team in Seattle.
When he meets the curly haired surgeon Olivia Bowen, he can't deny his attraction.

I liked that our h was w

What a good steamy romance.
Liam Reed is from England and is known as the Brits all-star football player (soccer in America) who has been traded to the Seattle Stars with a few of his other teammates. During a game he was injured and fears that it will be his career ending if doesn't seek help right away. When he goes in to see the doctor, he meets Olivia Bowen who is a renowned Sports Orthopedic Surgeon in Seattle.
When they meet, the attraction is instant. Olivia has a tough time concentrating o

J.H. Croix, you can write a book! Liam is too-die-for!! He is sensitive, communicative, and unafraid to express his emotions and actually TALK about his feelings. All wrapped up in a sexy, tatted, tall, muscular, professional soccer player. I love the development of the relationship between Liam and Olivia. She, of course, is Liam's complete opposite: socially awkward, somewhat insecure, and NOT a sports fan. But, J.H. develops their characters beautifully and we come to realize that Liam and Ol ...more

This is the first book I have read by the author and it is a well written sports romance. This chronicles Liam and Olivia’s story. Liam is a star soccer player who left his home country to play for the Seattle Stars. Not long after coming to the US, he winds up in Seattle Sports Orthopedics as he sustained a major injury. The doctor he is waiting for, Olivia, is the best orthopedic surgeon around, graduating summa cum laude from medical school. From her first encounter with Liam, she i

I became a fan of JH Croix when I read her first contemporary romance novel When Love Comes the first book in her Diamond Creek, Alaska series. Then a couple of years later she branched out into the paranormal/shifter romance with Protected Mate the first book in her Catamount Lion Shifters series. In her latest endeavor, Ms. Croix has branched out yet again, into the sports romance genre, with The Play the first book in the Brit Boys Sports Romance series. I must say in my opinion, she has done ...more

I love a sports romance and this one is no exception! It's a great first to a series that I hope only grows in strength! This one is Liam and Olivia's story. Liam is British football player transferred to a US team who has an injury that could change his career path. Olivia is the talented doctor who manages to patch this footballer up and in the process they fall for each other, despite neither looking for love.

As a British reader of an American author I did at times become confused by some of

Fun new (to me) series

Really enjoyed this first book in the Brit Boys series. Liam and Olivia are likable characters and you root for them to get their HEA. Olivia is a bit too wishy washy but we are led to believe this is a longtime behavior. It’s a tad unrealistic that she’d be such a superstar orthopedic surgeon at what has to be a pretty young age. We are never told exactly how old she is but a lot of the timelines don’t really match up. If she and Daisy are the same age their schooling and

I voluntarily review The Play by J. H. Croix for receiving an Advanced Reader Copy.

This is an awesome book. Liam and Olivia were lust at first sight but she fought it for a long time because she was his surgeon. Once she was officially done with followup care Liam pursued her until she finally gave in. He was in for the long haul but didn't know it at the time. Olivia didn't understand what he saw in her and figured it would pass.
Can Liam convince Olivia that he is in this forever and not just

Liam is a brilliant Brit footballer with an injured knee. Olivia is a brilliant doctor who is to fix said knee.

Sparks fly, and although she resists, Liam pursues Olivia until she goes out with him. They each feel unsure about what's happening, and their friends help them muddle through.

I like how their grief is handled, with Olivia losing her parents as a child, and Liam's mum passing only a few months before.

They finally admit their love after some painful time apart, and a happy ending ensu

I couldn't get past the sex play in an exam room between a doctor and her patient. Maybe it's just me but some lines are not okay to cross. This is something the doctor would lose her license for in every state. I kept trying as the author was highly recommended to me, but I just kept getting annoyed. I couldn't help thinking this woman was smart enough to become a highly sought after orthopedic surgeon to sports stars at 27, she is not going to risk her license this way. I also hated
