There is so much that drew me to Blood Bank by Zoe Markham – the title, the cover, the subject matter…

At first, I kept getting confused and had to go back and read the blurb. It seemed to be all over the place. But, maybe that was just me, because it didn’t take long for it to come together.

I know people tend to have a love/hate relationship with Twilight, so I must warn you right out of the gate, if you hate Twilight, you might want to move on. I loved Twilight and the f

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review

Blood Bank is the first book by Zoe Markham that I’ve read and it was one of those “swallow you whole” books. It was only a short little novella but it was packed full of action and kept your interest from the get go.

From the very first page we’re drawn into a story about the paranormal like no other; it begins with a carnival and quickly transfers into the town of Swindon and vampires. Not just any vampires – we’re ta

Lucy is out on a date with her boyfriend Zack whose life is spiraling out of control. It seems that all they do lately is bicker. To top it all off Lucy has to pick up the tab. Then at the end of a lovely night out with the boyfriend he gets a phone call and leaves Lucy on the side of the road in a bad part of town.

Zack owes the people at this club called Dystopia a lot of money and the only way to pay back this debt is not with money. Oh no they don’t want your money they want your blood. Why?

Move over Vampire writers, there's a new "writer" in town and her name is Zoe Markham! She just left us hanging in her ending after getting the reader on the edge of their seat with the excitement at the end. OK Ms. Markham, time to deliver on the sequel. This was really well written and if it weren't for obvious mistakes by the printer, it read perfectly! Much better, in my opinion, than the long and drawn out Twilight series (which should've been put to death after book two). Easy to read and ...more

A refreshing change on vampire stories.

Another vampire book that I was able to read last month, though this one was very different from most vampire characters nowadays. Instead, in this novel, it featured the vampires as to what they were seen before, scary and dangerous monsters that you should avoid at any costs.

The story started with Zach and Lucy having a date, but it was ruined when they need to pay the bill because Zach’s card kept on declining, so Lucy ended up pa

This review originally appeared on BrizzleLass Books.

Zoë Markham told me absolutely ages ago that her next book was about vampires in Swindon. That was all she told me and that was enough to have me chomping at the bit. I love Zoë’s writing style, the way she teases you through the book and leaves you hanging where other authors would fill in gaps.

I sat down to read Blood Bank and immediately got pulled into the seedy underworld in Swindon. Unlike Zoë’s previous books this was aim

I was given a copy of this book for an honest review.

I'll start by saying this in not one of those vampire's are not scary, but cuddly and sweet creatures, books. Zoe Markham's vampires are frightening, except for one, and I'd bet he could be pretty scary if he wanted to be. Having said that, there is some violence, and blood, but it's balanced, and not overwhelming. There is only one scene with inferences to sex, so that shouldn't be an issue for anyone who prefers to avoid that. ...more

I think it’s fairly well known that vampire books aren’t my first choice of genre but I have read books by Zoe Markham previously so I know what a great storyteller she is so I was intrigued to see how Blood Bank would compare.

Well let me tell you, this is dark, gritty and certainly not twee! It’s only a short book, 156 pages but cram packed full of action. These vampires aren’t to be messed with, mean and moody and frankly scary enough to make me stay in at night lol.

I almost didn’t read this book because I wasn’t sure that I would be able to finish it in time (as it was read for a blog tour). Luckily it is a novella which I didn’t realise, so that helped, but also I’m so glad I did because I really enjoyed this book, more than I expected to.

The pacing is brilliant, it was so easy to get sucked into this book and I could have read it in one sitting. The storyline itself is also really refreshing, it’s about vampires but not some lovey dovey story

Holy goodness. I loved this book soooo much. More than I can ever come up with words to actually explain, probably. I'm a sucker for vampire fiction and this was a bit of a different take on it. I cannot begin to tell you how refreshing it is to find a book that isn't centered around a vampire love story (though there are romantic elements here and there), but around the folklore and the excitement and mystery of a totally different sort of plot. This book is totally different from the vast majo ...more

Vampires in Swindon? Not such a strange concept as it might sound - Zoe Markham's urban take on the mythos has a strong core of social deprivation, loan sharking, and post-Thatcher capitalism that leads the bloodsuckers to harvest their victims like particularly extortionate interest rates. The human characters are desperate to survive from day to day, forever on the precipice of poverty, while the vamps are truly inhuman and uncaring, just like modern Conservatives. The pace is just as strong, ...more

I really liked this one! I enjoy the author’s writing style very much. She reveals the real story a little bit at a time and it works as a great hook. And man what a story, it’s gritty, dark and very addicting. You will definitely read this in one sitting.

I thought the idea of vampires in-debting hapless, addicts as a way to collect blood was really original but I can’t say anymore because it will reveal too much. I also love that though the protagonist is a monster, he still holds o

Brilliant! A page-turner! Two clans, and an outlier menace, terrorize each other and the ordinary citizenry of not-so-Merrie Olde England. Markham's eloquence, vivid descriptions, and plot line organization outshine many of our well-known novelists. Watch out for this rising star author!

Original Review Here

There were no sparkly vampires in this novel: nitty-gritty bloodsucking villains, these vampires are not to be messed with.

The narration is split into three, following Ben, Lucy and Zack.

Ben is one of the `bad` guys, but is a vampire with a conscience. Instead of gambling nights away, Ben is a coder, focusing only on making money despite being undead. Ben is a likeable character and it’s easy to empathise with him at the beginning. His temper sho

The vamps are coming for you...

Vampires are bloodsuckers, there's no denying it but some have a conscience. Swindon hosts a group of psychopathic vampires led by Viktor who has some issues... Blood Bank explores how far you would go to protect those you love.

A blend of horror and urban fantasy, it will sink its fangs into you and not let go.
