Ethan Sutcliff seems like a normal seventeen-year-old—at least that’s what he’s trying to portray. In a secret society run by the Supernaturals, Ethan is what witches call a Bender. Benders are Witches’ Guardians, who are able to control a witches’ ability, bend it, or move it away from harming humans. In Ethan’s case, he is able to bend the Earth element. But at the age o ...more

Mini review:

I received this E-ARC via the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. I saw this book on Netgalley. It sounded interesting and I requested. Unfortunately it wasn't for me.

This book was so annoying! The love stuff was ridiculous. Even the parents were involved. It was just one cliche after another. It truly annoyed me no end.

Do not recommend. Seriously there are better books out there.

This will be a down and dirty review as I am going to keep spoilers removed. Just know that no matter what, this was a fun read.

I liked this more than I thought I would. I felt it was geared towards older YA readers and some NA readers, but it was still good. I'm always open to new and unique stories and this one fit the bill. The idea of magic wielders and benders sounded like so much fun! All of the characters felt very well rounded, developed, and wonderfully complex. I connected with them ri

Members of a secret society of witches, Ethan and Alex are two earth elemental users… Ethan can bend what Alex can wield. As the earth element is the strongest, those who can wield and bend it are seen as defacto leaders… In order to save one another they must finally meet… but they are forbidden to ever fall in love!

The short review...

*voluntarily and honestly reviewed the ARC I received from NetGalley*

The rating falls between a 3.5 - 4 for me because of a few things that felt overlooked in terms of the plot or reasoning behind some of the characters' actions, but aside from that, I absolutely adored this book. It's been a while since I've felt so excited over a story! Immediately I took to the writing style, the way it flowed with its fast-paced action and detailed feels of the current POV. I loved that it drew me in so fast

The release date is set for May 2018.
Hinder is part of a series called Guardian of Monsters but can be read as a standalone, although you will see at the end, there is room for a second book as they discuss a journey Alex and Ethan has to go on to find Mother freak'n nature, Hahahaha.
I don't have the full idea for a second novel following Alex and Ethan, but the rest of the novels have been in the pipelines, some are getting edited others still need to be written.

I rarely jump into the YA world but sometimes I like to read other genres so I don’t just stay cuddled up in my smutmance world. Hinder is a refreshing story about Ethan Sutcliff and Alex Burgendorf. This story is about witches, magic, bending, wielding and demonic races galore. It’s a fantasy and possibly even a dystopia. Alex and Ethan are the rarest people on earth who can wield Earth magic. Alex knows her life is in danger until she reaches the age of 25 and most people wi

I'm not going to write a full review on this one. I had received a free e-copy in exchange for my honest review from Rockstar Book Tours, and ended up having to do a spotlight post instead of a review because I did not enjoy this one at all.

*There will be some spoilers ahead to get my point acrosss*

The magic system created was entirely too confusing. There were wielders and benders, and then people could still learn normal spells and witchcraft...

With a sort of lyrical style for descriptions, badassery that comes out of nowhere and a sassy tone thrown in the narration mix, this book if full of supernatural goodness.

Benders & wielders share a symbiotic relationship of elemental power, but getting physical is not only forbidden but dangerous. The mythology is quite complex & takes a bit to understand (I don't believe the bend/wield thing is fully explained) but it is worth it. I guess we have to learn alongside Alex & Ethan.

Don't you just hate it when a book gets 5 star reviews and then you rock up with a review of 1 star? That's gonna be the case here, unfortunately.

This book was just pretty cringe worthy, to be honest. Now, keep in mind that others have given this book 5 stars so I'm in the minority here, but I was so bored throughout this. There was a massive info dump at the beginning, which I found hard to take in. Still, despite finishing this book, I can't tell you what the fuck went on. Something about an u

Hinder was not quite what I expected but I enjoyed the meeting and learning about Benders and Wielders. I thought that was an interesting part of this book. I think the character were very good together. I think this book and it's author has some great ideas and a new look on witches. I thought this book was ok but it did not caught me as much as I had hoped it would. *This book was given to me for free at my request from Netgalley and I provided this voluntary review.* ...more

I requested this book for many reasons, the main reason being that it looked right up my alley. It had all kinds of supernatural aspects such as vampires, shapeshifters, but mainly witches. I love a good book about a witch.
Except, I didn’t love this book at all. I barely even liked it. I don’t want to be too harsh, but I wanted to quit 3% into the book. I didn’t bond with the storyline nor the characters. I was more concerned for Fibbs

Ethan's Bender power came forth when he was ten, but he would need to find a rare, always in danger earth Wielder to pair with. But by the time he turned 15, he never found his partner and lost all magical abilities. Meanwhile, Alex, an earth Wielder has been living her life cloistered away from any possible threat inside her aunt's necklace. When she is finally allowed to venture out of the safe world in the necklace, she meets Ethan at an event. It appears as if the two of them h

Hinder is a unique and spell-binding new adult paranormal story.

The story is just about two characters who are looking for one another, but the problem was that great danger awaits them. At the age of 10, Ethan already got his power as an Earth Bender, but he also needs to find his partner, an Earth Wielder. Without their Wielders, Benders couldn’t do anything that’s why after 7 years, his power disappeared when he didn’t find his Wielder. Meanwhile, Alex has been hiding with her parents inside

A truly magical and suspenseful adventure!

Hinder: A Bender's Novel, the first installment in a new series by Kristin Ping, revolves around Alex, the last powerful Earth witch alive, and her bender, Ethan.

Benders are the guardians of witches and they are magically connected to their power. However, Ethan has recently lost his connection to the power, something that happens only the witch he's supposed to be guarding is dead. But Alex is not dead,

A big thank you to NetGalley and Fire Quill Publishing for the ARC for my honest review. I have never read a book by Kristin Ping before. I found it to be quite refreshing. It seemed different-the characters were fun and it reads as a stand alone-it is the first in a series. I can see where this can lead to additional books-but it is not a cliffhanger like some books. There is mystery, and a small amount of romance and a lot of violence. I would say high school and up would be perfect. I enjoyed ...more

This is a good start to the series.

The story begins with a young Ethan and how he is discovered and how tragedy strikes his family. From there we go to the now. Ethan is a great Bender with no earth to bend. Why? His wielder is not around. The reasoning is this: Earth wielders and benders are rare and coveted. No one wants to have someone stronger than them around and Earth magic is the strongest. It is the one that brings balance but can also destroy. Suddenly in a flash of an eye Ethan’s worl

I was expecting a lot of magic from this book. I mean elemental magic! YES. Two people having to work side by side to make it work. Yes. Their journey to finding each other and making it work. Heck yeah.
Alex annoyed me only for 40% of this book. After living in a locket for sixteen years, with only her family as company, you’d think she would be a little more socially awkward. Not in this case. Yes, she went through some embarrassing stuff but that’s not what bothered me. Since she was so drop d

Hinder by Kristin Ping is a refreshing read that is fun and unique. Even though it's about magic, witches, and demons, Ms. Ping puts her own creative spin on the fantasy genre that many will enjoy. I would have loved to give this book 4 stars (or higher) but there were several things that made me lower my rating to a 3. I really loved the concept of this book and I'm excited to see where the series goes from here.

This book was given to me as part of the Rockstart BookTour for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This was one of the worst read I made myself go through in a long while. Between information dump that is unnecessary to the story, outrages descriptions, writing inconsistency and cliche after cliche.

At first I thought maybe Hinder was aimed for a younger YA audience, but with all the sex and wet dreams involved I wouldn't feel comfortable with a 13-year-old reading this. Hin

"Hinder" followed Ethan, Alex, and their parents through their adolescent journey of being Wielders/Benders. In this book, Wielders are "witches" who have control over a specific element, but they need a Bender to help control and use their powers. In their case, Ethan and Alex have control over earth, which is the most rare and dangerous of elements, as they are hunted by Necrocretors who will try to kill them. Until they come into their full powers at 25, they are vulnerable. There is also an ...more

A departure from my normal romance novels, Hinder was just the break I needed. Kristin Ping really outdid herself in creating a unique world and mythos that drew me in and kept me enthralled from beginning to end. It was absolutely magical. The characters are well-written--they have both flaws and strengths and each is individual to the character. They were real and genuine seeming.

This book was really imaginative and enchanting. I love the way this author writes. I read her book titled 'Immortal' and loved it so I wasn't surprised at how quickly I read this book or how much I enjoyed it. There's something about entering a world and discovering the nooks and crannies of it that I love. All of the new laws, the ways of how their worlds work and how it doesn't work and the beauty of everything is just amazing to me. Anyways, I loved this book, it was a great read and held my ...more

I have started and stopped reading this book for almost a month and still haven't finished. Usually, it takes me a day or two to finish a book. I don't often read YA but I get that sometimes the writing and content may not appeal to me, but I try to give it a chance. I need things to happen or I need to care about the characters and at this point, I don't care about the characters and I'm bored.
