Fortuitously, Alex Moreland, the twin of the agency's owner, happens to be there in his brother's stead. Alex feels an instant spiritual connection to this beautiful, well-spoken but distraught young girl dressed in boy's clothing. She carries nothing on her person but bruises suggesting physical trauma and a few items, Inoffensive but also unexciting offering from Camp featuring amnesic heroine who seeks the assistance of the Moreland investigative agency to locate her lost identity and memory. Fortuitously, Alex Moreland, the twin of the agency's owner, happens to be there in his brother's stead. She also carries a locket bearing the name, Sabrina. Alex is the younger son of the Duke of Moreland. His family is powerful but known to be eccentric and yes, even mad. Many of his family members have strange and supernatural abilities. For Alex, he is able to sense things by touching objects. Occasionally, he is also overcome by sudden forebodings of events of sense of ill feeling when those he care about are threatened. This usually pertains to his twin brother, but he is shocked to find that he has the same psychic link with Sabrina.

Camp is a great writer, but this is not one of her memorable works. Alex and Sabrina connected at first sight spiritually, emotionally, lustfully. There really was nowhere to go in terms of their relationship development apart from just awaiting for the inevitable physical connections to happen. The focus of the book was on solving the mystery of Sabrina's background. Alex was too bland a hero, not self-assured enough for my taste, being only 24 to her 20. His twin, Con, and Sabrina's friend, Lilah, appear to have greater chemistry. At least it's not instant feels between them but more instant antagonism. I shall check out their story in the next book.

I found the narrator quite annoying, especially when he voiced Sabrina, because he puts a recurrent, rhythmic inflection at the end of each of her lines, like an accent, which just makes me want to pull off the earphones and hum to myself. It's hard to explain because it's quite unusual, but it just drove me nuts to hear that and it made her speech appear unnatural and detached. ...more

The butchering of titles was strong in this one... for pity's sake there is no Lord Moreland confusion or profusion. She should call you Lord Alex (you younger son, you). You know this, she should know this. And would authors get off the first name train? It wasn’t a practice back then to commonly use them. Why is this conversation even happening?

“Alex walked up. Google people. Is it really that hard for authors to read up on how to address nobility? “What title does a duke’s son have”, “How is a second born son addressed” “What is the title of a duke’s daughter” etc etc. Such a simple, enter question in google, fix for a recurring problem in this whole Moreland series.

I expect no experts, but sheesh at least read up on the intricacies related to the status and stature of the family you base a multiple book series on.

Hey, I'm going to write about a Duke's family! Step One, hmm I know, lets research "the family of a Duke"! Gasp! Such a flash of brilliance!

This book is scattered and insensible on a whole. The pairing is straight up odd, the situation is silly from the start. This whole family is set up to push all bounds of believability.

And I am not even talking about the magical premonition style aspects, which actually rang truer than the more general nonsense taking place.

The day to day behavior, with quirks emphasized to the point of ridiculousness just made it all rather trying.

And while I know the heroine had no memory and thus by necessity less presence overall as a character with a backstory who, should maybe get a pass, I don't want to give her one.

She was a boring cipher from start to end.

Done and done.

Hero was more fun as a child character in previous books. He seemed like a teen with a crush rather than a man in his mid twenties here. ...more

Herself. She has amnesia, and the only clue to her identity is a gold locket around her neck with the name Sabrina and a date twenty years earlier engraved on it.

The hero of the book is Alexander, one of the sons of the Duke of Moreland, helping out his twin brother Co The Victorian romance His Sinful Touch begins on a really intriguing note… a young woman, dressed in man’s clothes, stumbles into the office of a small London detective agency and tells them she wants to hire them to find someone. Of course, the plot thickens further once Sabrina’s true identity is discovered, partly through the use of some psychic abilities Alex has never fully explored. I thoroughly enjoyed the plot twists and the steadily building romantic relationship between the two leads but there were a couple of issues that bothered me about the book.

Firstly, the use of the word ‘gotten’ in dialogue between the leads. I was born in the UK and lived there for the first 25 years of my life before moving to Australia, and I have never, ever heard an English person say ‘gotten’. It’s strictly an Americanism, and a member of the upper class in the Victorian era would have considered it utterly uncouth.

Secondly, there was a plot hole I thought was wide enough to drive a coach-and-four through. The American author probably doesn’t know about this, but the UK has, since 1837, required all records of births, marriages and deaths to be sent to the Registrar General’s office, housed at Somerset House in London from 1837 until 1970. Records are indexed by date, so with a date of birth and a first name as uncommon as Sabrina (it didn’t become popularised until the 1950s), they should have been able to discover her identity in short order. A detective agency not even knowing about these records is, frankly, inconceivable.

However, only a picky Brit like me would even NOTICE these issues. If they’ll annoy you, avoid; otherwise, this is a highly enjoyable romp. Four stars.

The woman remembers nothing about who she is apart from her first name, Sabrina, and she can feel she’s running from something but has no clue as to why. As Alexander Moreland is leaving his brother’s office, a mysterious gentleman arrives seeking assistance only to be revealed as a woman in disguise and on the run. The woman remembers nothing about who she is apart from her first name, Sabrina, and she can feel she’s running from something but has no clue as to why. As Alex and Sabrina work to uncover her past, they grow closer to each other while what she’s running from begins to close in.

Sabrina, despite her memory loss, managed to get herself out of harm’s way and seek assistance to find out who she is and what happened to her. I felt that showed a great deal of inner strength and proved her to be a clever woman who had the potential to outwit her enemies. During the weeks she worked with Alex to uncover information, Sabrina showed she was a strong, level-headed woman who was unwilling to let others make decisions for her. After uncovering her identity, Sabrina does have difficulty reconciling who she is now with who she was before her memory loss which she eventually is able to work through with Alex’s help.

Alex is very close to all of the Morelands but is by far the closest to his twin brother Con to the extent that they know what the other is thinking or when they’re in distress. In addition to his twin speak, as him and Con call it, Alex also has the ability to sense things when he touches an object. In particular, strong emotions tied to the object come through the best. This ability puts him in a unique position to help Sabrina and he actually develops the skill even further over the course of helping her as he feels so strongly about finding out what happened.

Sabrina and Alex both feel an immediate connection when they meet with Alex feeling a remarkably similar connection to Sabrina that he feels with Con which is something he’s never experienced before. There is an initial hesitation in their relationship due to the lack of knowledge about Sabrina’s past including her marital status. When the relationship turns physical, there are several scenes where they give in to their feelings only to reign themselves in. Once they finally let themselves go, the scenes are quite steamy and very well done. Towards the end of the book, a bit of miscommunication does slow things down but thankfully that is resolved quickly.

Having only read the first book in the Mad Morelands series, Mesmerized, I did miss out on the other siblings’ stories, but I never felt lost. The author does a great job with the side characters and at showing you who everyone is. My favorite of the side characters were definitely all of the women in the Moreland clan. All of them are huge advocates of women’s rights and there were several excellent scenes where they put men in their place for trying to talk of women as the lesser sex or as property.

I was pleasantly surprised to see the touch of paranormal that showed up in the first book is present again here (and by the sounds of it, in all the other books as well). The addition of a paranormal element definitely sets this series apart from most historical romance books and it’s something I’m a fan of.

Overall, His Sinful Twist ended up being a great read and I look forward to reading the rest of the series soon. I definitely recommend this series for anyone looking for a more unique historical romance.

-Each chapter told from alternating points of view between Sabrina and Alex which kept the story fresh and you got a chance to get into the heads of both characters learning their thoughts and feelings on different occurrences.
-The writing itself is appropriate for the period.
-A few somewhat steamy scenes to enjoy.

We’ve watched the boyish antics of Constantine (Con) and Alexander (Alex) over the first four books of the series – and now, they are all grown up and are getting books of their own. I love that we’ve gotten to see the lively, intelligent, rambunctious, inquisitive, and mischievous boys grow up and that we’ve been a party to their mischief. We’ve seen them with their menagerie of animals – from a parrot to a boa constrictor – and we’ve held our breaths as they’ve been kidnapped. Now, we get to watch them find their HEA’s – and that is an adventure as well! This book gives us Alex’s HEA and the next book, His Wicked Charm, will allow us to see Con’s HEA. Frankly, the first book I read in this series was Con’s, and I was so impressed – loved it so much – that I’ve gone back and read the entire series – in order. I have loved each and every book in the series.

Alex Moreland is now twenty-five years of age. He and his brother Con own a building in London where they each have their offices. Con has a detective agency (it was once his sister Olivia’s) and Alex is an architect. Alex and Con have a strong twin connection – they know what each other is thinking without actually speaking, they can sense when the other is in trouble, etc. Neither has ever had that connection with anyone else. However, Alex is having that anxious, restless feeling that he usually associates with Con having trouble of some sort. Except, he knows it can’t be Con because he was just speaking with Con who is setting out to do an investigation. As he ponders those feelings, while still in Con’s office, the feelings get more intense – so he steps outside the office and sees a man hurrying through the outer door – only – it isn’t a man. It is a woman dressed – very poorly – as a man – and she mistakes him for Con. When he encourages the misconception, she tells him her tale. She has absolutely no idea who she is and remembers nothing about her past. She knows she arrived in London on the train – and the hackney driver suggested Con’s agency as a good one for finding lost things – and she is lost. The only clue she has to herself is a locket with the name Sabrina and a date so she assumes that must be her name and her birthdate. If you’ve read the previous books, you know that the Morelands fall in love – fast, hard and forever – so you won’t be surprised to learn that Alex is already lost – he just doesn’t know it yet.

Sabrina has no idea who she is. She has no idea why she is in London. Does she live there? Nothing seems familiar. Was she meeting someone at the train station? Nobody approached her – but then she was dressed as a man. Why was she dressed that way? She has a knot on her head, bruises on her face, and bruises like fingerprints around her upper arm. How did she get them? She’s very anxious and fearful and is sure that she is running from someone, but she has no idea who it is. When the hackney driver recommends the Moreland Detective Agency to her, she readily asks him to take her there. When she meets the detective, she’s sure she knows him, but when he doesn’t recognize her, she assumes that she is mistaken.

Alex wonders if this isn’t an elaborate hoax designed by Con, but quickly decides that isn’t the case. With no place else to take her, he takes her to his parent’s home. Sabrina doesn’t realize she’s headed to the home of a Duke and once she discovers that, she isn’t inclined to stay there. Alex convinces her to meet his mother – and she quickly sets Sabrina at ease and insists she stay with them.

The investigation begins in earnest and, of course, that proximity draws them closer and closer. Each knows that they cannot act on any attraction because one of the things that was in Sabrina’s possession was a wedding ring. Is she married? Is she running from an abusive husband? Maybe it is just a keepsake from her mother or another beloved relative. Who knows?

Things get tense when the villains appear and try to lay claim to Sabrina, but Alex will protect her no matter what. Seeing them work together and thwart the villains was lovely and seeing Alex learn to use more of his special ‘gift’ was great.

I loved this book and I hope you will as well.

Sabrina is a young woman with no recollection of who she is, or where she’s from, is devastating enough, realizing that she’s drugged and possibly beaten is downright frightening!
Sabrina knows that someone is out to harm her, her life is in danger!

This book was a real page turner. I couldn't put it down.

When first I picked this book up, I didn't realize it was number 5 in a series. I really dislike starting in the middle of a series, because you miss a lot of things. I definitely have to go read the first four. The little snippets and hints about previous books were so intriguing! I'm officially hooked.

In the same vein as the rest of this series -- i.e. not only fantastical (which is OK because it unabashedly addresses supernatural topics so there has to be suspension of disbelief to read that) but also wildly improbable. Sabrina is running away, from what she doesn't know because she has lost her memory. When she arrives in London she has advice from a hackney driver to go to an investigative service for help. It is there that she first meets Alexander Moreland. His twin brother owns the agency but Alex helps out occasionally which is why he is at the offices.

Alex has special psychic abilities, not just the normal twin connection, and even before Sabrina enters the building he picks up on her anguish. He knows immediately that he must help her and as soon as she explains her situation, even though he isn't the investigator of the business, he promises to help her.

The story follows where Alex and Sabrina try to fathom what happened in her past. The time they spend together and a soul-deep connection between them sees their relationship developing. When they discover eventually who Sabrina is running from it seems their relationship is doomed, but Alex swears to do all that he and his family can do to make sure she never ends up back in the hands of the person she was running from.

This book was fabulous. I enjoyed every minute of it because so much was going on. Alex is the perfect hero, such a gentleman, one willing to do all that it takes to look after those that he cares about. Not only did I fall in love with Alex and Sabrina but the whole Moreland family too who I think are an absolute delight to read about. They are definitely not your usual stuffy rich family and I especially loved the psychic abilities that some of the family members had. It gave the whole story that little extra to make it better than your normal Regency Romance. It's one of the reasons I am determined to go back now and read all the previous stories in the series.

The series is being relaunched and, although I read it years ago, I confess that I forgot some details of what happens.

Beginning to say that the Morelands are an atypical family.
They, each in a different way, have gifts. Grandmother Moreland, for example, would hear and speak with ghosts.

His Sinful Touch is the 5th book in The Mad Moreland series by Candace Camp. I have been a long time fan of Candace’s and I have yet to read one of her books that has disappointed me and His Sinful Touch is no exception. Not a bad read. I liked the Hero and Heroine, the story was fun. Although, there is lots of back story, lots and lots of back story. We meet Alex's brother's, sisters, mother, father, uncle, nieces! Their backstory, his backstory, her backstory!!!!
At one point I thought, damn, this is a second in a series, isn't it? LOL
It did drag on and on a few spots, but other than that it was a good read. I listened to it as an audio book, which I give a five star rating. It was read by a man, but he did an ...more

Okay, I really like some of Candace Camp's books, but this is not one of them. I have stopped reading a hundred pages in. The characters seemed superficial to me. Too much rush to get to the romance. And all this talk of love at first sight, seems like a flimsy excuse not to develop the story slowly in a believable manner. I especially have trouble with Sabrina. I was a little disappointed. The "Greats" were so wonderful as boys in the earlier books of the Moreland series that I expected more "fun" in Alex's story. So much of the amnesia plot was too unbelievable for me to ignore. It was just a little too far-fetched. ...more

Alexander Moreland and his twin brother, Con, have always had a mystical "connection." While they can't read each other's mind, they can sense when the other is near, or troubled. The stranger is dressed in men's clothing, but is definitely a woman in disguise. The woman needs help finding someone lost, namely, herself. She has no memory of who she is or where she belongs. She is wearing a locket with the name Sabrina engraved, so she assumes that is her name. She has some injuries, and has a feeling of dread, and that she is fleeing something or someone.

Alex's protective instinct ramps into high gear, and he takes Sabrina to his family home while he works on finding out her story. The Moreland family is an unconventional lot, no stranger to scandal, and not afraid of it. They welcome Sabrina into their midst, and she's soon feeling comfortable and safe. Alex decides to have Sabrina attend some social events in the hope that someone will recognize her and solve the mystery of her identity. Sabrina is recognized, first by a woman, Lilah, who claims to be a close friend, then by a pair of men, one who claims to be her guardian, and his son, Peter, who claims to be her husband. As some intense feelings have begun to develop between Alex and Sabrina in a short time, the possibility of her having a husband is very unwelcome news to both of them. A distraught Sabrina refuses to leave with her husband, and returns to the Moreland home.

Knowing that Peter Dearborn and his father will soon demand to take Sabrina back into their care, Alex and Sabrina embark on a road trip, determined to find out the truth. As they retrace Sabrina's steps, their attraction and connection deepens. Alex is determined that Sabrina will be his, no matter what steps he has to take, but in the meanwhile, he attempts to be honorable, and not act on his desires. Sabrina has no such scruples, and she is determined to share love with Alex now, no matter what the future may bring. Even though she is now having hazy memories of standing before a vicar....

Alex and Sabrina are wonderful characters, and it's clear that they belong together. Even so, I admit to being disappointed that they gave in so quickly to passion before they knew all the facts about her past and her relationship with Peter. The story was interesting, fast moving, and exciting. The mental connection that Alex and Sabrina had added a whole 'nother layer of intimacy to their relationship. I would have liked to see the villain(s) suffer a much harsher punishment, as I think they escaped very lightly. HIS SINFUL TOUCH is a well written, enjoyable, and different type of romance due to the paranormal element. Though it's part of THE MAD MORELAND series, it reads very well as a standalone book.
