Gaia finally knows who she is and what she’s meant to do. It’s only been a few weeks since the earth element woke in her. Now that she’s embracing her role as Mother Nature, she must journey with her group of power-wielding friends in a race against time to get back home before Azazel reaches them. With the awakening of a brand new element, her true past with Edan, a dangerous decision that could change the very essence of who she is, and a traitor among her group, the broken road back to Terra will be a test of strength. After all, even if Gaia doesn’t know it, war is closer than she thinks.
Major geek by day, hermit writer by night! Love books, sugar gliders and everything that comes in a taco.
I’m the author of the YA fantasy series, Seasons Within
I spend my time writing, planning on writing, reading, eating (yum!), doing some Muay Thai and drinking industrial amounts of coffee with a fellow writer :)
ARC provided by author in exchange for honest review.
Jeez!!! Where to begin? I looooooved the first instalment, so I had very high hopes for the second one... And it TOTALLY delivered. Plot, descriptions, characters, pace. All of it! It was like reading something out of Sense8, but for YA, and I sooo wanna be part of their cluster (in this case, part of the Six). You can tell by the very beginning how much the author has grown, and her story with her. I laughed, yelled, swooned, cried. All of it in the spam of a few chapters. Cant wait for "Summer"!!!!
When it comes to Lele, she has a way to blow my brain out of proportions. She has done it again with Spring!
When I first read Seasons Within, I fell in love with the characters and the world setting. I loved G's innocence, Edan's protectiveness, Priyam's humor and the bada**ness of The Six, the group has a way of making the readers feel included into their warm circle and I savored every second of it. In all honesty, they are a family and I couldn't imagine it being anyone else - which brings me to the major plot twist at the end of the story, brace yourself, lots of ugly sobbing and Kleenex are required. I'm still reeling for the fact that that happened. Why Lele? Why do you do this to us??
(Ahh, they reminded me of the friendship dynamics in Sense8, and I know you love Sense8 too Lele!)
Spring continues with the group embarking on the journey to find a way of returning to Terra. With more of Azazel's creature on their tail, a betrayer in their midst and Gaia's growing affinity for the elements, the story took a more exciting yet dangerous turn, each scene was packed with more action and adrenaline than the one before. The fights were so epic I was genuinely amazed at the author's imagination! It was intense and terrifying as I was left gripping the edge of my seat whenever a Draak appears. Now that Gaia is maturing into her role as Mother Nature, she shines with her personality. I am so proud of how much Gaia has achieved in a short amount of time. If Mother Nature has a face and name, it would DEFINITELY be Gaia.
If you are an Edan and Gaia fan (like I am), you'll get more than you hoped for in the second installment. The burning passion and their intense chemistry just got hotter by the second. I craved for every moment for when they are together and how their souls are always in sync. In Spring, there was budding romance, while some other hearts are crushed, but I loved that the author also took the time to explore their relationships instead of solely focusing on Gaia and Edan's. My second favorite couple is Veter and Shui, I'm also rooting hard for Floyd and Priyam!
(For when Gaia and Edan are on friendly terms :p )
You'd think that I'll get used to the idea of nature and its elements, but I'm still reveling in the beauty of the story. I can re-read this series a million times and it will still be love at first read.
Nature has a story to tell and I'm taking the front row seat with this series. In a world of war and destruction, this series reminds you that nature has its own will. Utterly captivating and brilliant!
Spring by Lele Iturrioz is the second book in the YA coming of age Season's Within fantasy series, picking up with teenaged Gaia as she accepts her destiny as Mother Nature.
"Gaia released the air through her mouth and concentrated. She could feel the warmth of her hands passing all the way towards the seed, and the seed began to beat like a heart."
*sigh* So pretty.
With her core group of friends, The Six, the journey to a gate that gets them back home to Terra begins, but Azazel continues to hinder their path. Meanwhile, love, loss, and treatory wrangle through the group as memories of the past slowly resurface, even as the future begins to look uncertain.
Spring is such a fantastic follow up to book one, Season's Within, and Lele Iturrioz holds nothing back as she reveals the cards written into the storyline for Gaia and The Six, with some jaw-to-the-floor twists. Iturrioz has a gift of description, particularly with battle scenes and the ways in which Gaia explores her power.
"Gaia felt dizzy, her head pounding from the lack of air. 'Come on G! Think of something or you are going to faint.' Gaia placed her hands on the ground. She closed her eyes concentrating. She could feel different grains of dirt vibrating under her palms. 'Now!' She pushed and the ground swallowed her."
Iturrioz also offers beautifully layered characters with dialogue that feels authentic. I went ahead and asked my teenage daughter is she'd like to give Season's Within a try, and the cover alone sold her. I'm excited to see what's in store for Gaia and The Six and am overjoyed to have a series that mother and daughter can enjoy together.
The action continues as Gaia keeps learning how to be mother nature, she is getting pretty good and starting to feel like she finally has an identity, even things with Edan are getting better (my favorite part tbh), but not everything is as easy as it seems, Azazel won't give up until he stops Gaia and her squad.
Gaia is rediscovering so many things about her past and she is developing her affection towards Edan; but with the danger, hiding places, and a traitor inside her group, Gaia needs to focus in one thing only: how to be one step ahead of Him and keep her friends safe.
The way the author describes the characters and develops the story makes you feel like you have known it for your whole life, even though this is just the second book of the saga. There's a lot more of romance in this book (for all of you who are waiting to know what happens between Edan and Gaia) and also some hidden secrets come to light.
If you liked the first book you are going to love Spring!
I had the oppprtunity to review this thru Xpresso Book Tours. I was lucky enough to read both one and two consecutively. because after one you need two!
This book has fantasy and magic and excitement. Its an epic adventure that makes you want more and makes you really want to be part of the gang.
The characters are so well written you feel for them ,you know them and you root for them. Every page you turn takes you further into Lele's world. But heres your warning you will NOT want to leave this world. And you WILL have the book hangover that is only releived by the next installment.
Initially I was skeptical worried about the same ole same ole but, as I am learning in my reviews of many books lately...take a chance there are gems out there that will knock you of your game. This is very much one of them. I've added this author to my follow list, there is mega talent in this one!
Gaia and her friends need to get to one of the gates that will take them home to Terra before Azazel reaches them. While on their journey across the country Azazel keeps sending his monsters into their path to slow them down.
Gaia finally knows who she is but she can’t remember the past yet. But it is coming to her in bits and pieces a little at a time with each wielding of a different element.
Gaia is remembering more about Edan and who he is to her and they are both trying to figure out their relationship and what they mean to each other and how to deal with it now in their new life.
There is one amongst them that thinks they are better than anyone else and deserves the best of whatever that happens to be in any given situation. This one person will turn against them and betray them to get what they what and think they deserve. This person will do whatever it takes to get what they want even if it means killing someone.
For an eighteen year old Gaia has a lot on her shoulders. She has the world on her shoulders that are looking to her to keep them safe. She has a lot to learn and a lot to do and only a short period of time to do it in. Gaia has come a long way since the first book Seasons Within. She has grown up so much. It is just amazing how well she has dealt with the fact that she is Mother Nature. I mean can you image having something like that lying on your shoulders? You know to be Mother Nature. The rest of Gaia’s team is just as amazing as she is. They all stick together and put their friend’s lives a head of their own.
I you like reading about all the elements and Mother Nature then you are going to love Spring but I would suggest that you start with the first book Seasons Within first as you don’t want to miss out on anything.
Seasons within is one of the best sagas i've ever read. Every time i finish each, i wish i had in my hands the next one. Spring is exciting and mesmerizing, you'll get hook up immediately. This time Gaia knows how having a family feels like. She starts to meet the group better, even love them. The relationship between her and Edan is blooming finally. She discovers new powers and wills inside her, and a brand new element during their journey, all to protect her friends. Everything is going perfect, but "Him" and the bad guys won't let that happen for so long.
I can assure you that you'll cry at the end, Lele is evil!!! Hahahahaha, love it...
For each new mystery we solve, we get new unanswered questions...
Everything that made the first book great is back, supercharged! Characters keep being masterfully developed, G's powers, relationships and OMFG THE HUMOR!! I love Lele's humor as an author. Some parts are hilarious, but Oh! When things get serious! I was either having a great time reading this book, or hanging on the edge of my seat reading as fast as I could because I HAD TO KNOW WHAT COMES NEXT! You learn even more about Gaia's past and her home, but as I said earlier, for each new mystery we solve, we get new unanswered questions, I can't wait to see more in the next book!! I'm totally hooked on this series!
I totally loved this book, going back to Gia’s life and reading about their adventures on the way to Terra was AMAZING, it is a great book, Lele continues making an awesome work, it makes you experience a lot of emotions, love, happiness, sadness, hate (Yes, I’m talking about you Synthia, FU), I really recommend it, with this book you can travel to another world (Terra) and forget all your problems, discover new things about each character and their history, if you liked SW you are going to love Spring, I’m really proud of you Lele, thank you for a lovely book that takes my mind away from reality and transports me to a better world, I love you very much, Can wait for Autumn.
The first book gets you choppy with the question of what will happen to Gaia and her group. Will it accomplish its purpose? She is a good protagonist, and although things got complicated a little, in the end she will be victorious.
I do not disappoint the second book, super recommended, is to laugh, angry, and even cry. A whole lot of emotions that makes us love him more.
Loved it! So very good, these books have sucked me in and I have enjoyed every moment of it. And boy did I cry like a baby near the end. Now to wait for the third book, I can’t wait to see what happens in the next instalment!
So I guess I was having one of my moments at the time, but I didn’t realize this wasn’t the first book in the series. I definitely still enjoyed it though and I still think I completely understood the story. I loved the writing! It was hilarious, but of course also serious! Most of the time I was on edge, reading as fast as I could needing to know what happens next! Everything was so exciting and dangerous, packed full of action! Gaia is pretty much Mother Nature, so basically she’s a badass and I love her personality! This book really makes me want to become one with Nature! If you are a Fantasy, action and adventure lover this book is for you!
The author's advance in this book is really noticeable. He knows how to narrate very well, get stung with the first book, and the structure of the second one is certainly to be admired.
