The Kahuna—“wizard” in old Hawai’ian—was the only one who could surprise Vanessa Storm when she was a teenager. When she’s an FBI Special Agent, though, things are different. She’s no longer a girl impressed with small-town bad boys.

But when Dylan, the Kahuna, asks her help for his little brother, who’s accused of shooting two Honolulu cops, she finds she still cannot say no to this man.

And that’s just the start of a mystery that echoes across 15 years.

Scott Bury can't stay in one category.

After a 20-year career in journalism, he turned to writing fiction. "Sam, the Strawb Part," a children's story, came out in 2011, with all the proceeds going to an autism charity. Next was a paranormal short story for grown-ups, "Dark Clouds."

The Bones of the Earth, a historical fantasy, came out in 2012. It was followed in 2013 with One Shade of Red, an erotic romance.

The Eastern Front trilogy tells the true story of Maurice Bury, a Canadian drafted into the USSR’s Red Army to face the German invasion of the Soviet Union. Army of Worn Soles, the first volume, was published in 2014, followed by Under the Nazi Heel in 2016 and Walking Out of War in 2017.

Scott Bury has been invited to contribute to three Kindle Worlds. For the Jet Kindle World, based on a character created by bestseller Russell Blake, he published Jet – Stealth: A Jet Kindle World Novella in July 2015.

The same week, he published Torn Roots: A Lei Crime Kindle World Novella featuring characters created by bestselling Hawaii crime author Toby Neal. He has since published three more Lei Crime Kindle World books: Palm Trees & Snowflakes (December 2015), Dead Man Lying (2016) and Echoes (2017).

Emily Kimelman, author of the Sydney Rye series, invited Scott to contribute to the Sydney Rye Kindle World. His answer was The Wife Line in 2016, and The Three-Way in 2017.

In between writing books and blog posts, Scott helped found an author's cooperative publishing venture, Independent Authors International. He is also President of author's professional association BestSelling Reads.

He lives in Ottawa with his two mighty sons, two pesky cats and a very understanding wife.

Vanessa Storm is back! An old boyfriend has returned to the island to help a family member in trouble with the law. He's asked Vanessa for help in clearing his brother's name but there is plenty more to the story than anyone realizes. If you've followed the Lei Crime Series you'll recognize Yamada, Lei's old partner from her stint in the FBI, and her old boss. The story is given in pieces as the events of one evening, almost two decades ago, is vitally important to current affairs. Everything boils down to what happened that one night and the effects of one decision. Bury likes to incorporate the names of fellow Kindle World authors and it's fun to see their involvement. It's not necessary to read Bury's other works in this KW but it gives a little history of Storm. This was another excellent novel and a perfect example of a Kindle World story, taking a secondary character in the primary series and developing another world for them. I was lucky enough to get an advanced copy through the author and have written my review voluntarily.

I received a copy of this book in return for an honest review. I’ve had this book on my ‘Want to Read’ list for a long time, but just didn’t get around to reading it. And now? Dang! I LOVE Vanessa Storm (FBI). This story begins with her as a teenager! I’ve missed a whole decade of Vanessa – can’t believe it! Well, to the story: Teen-ager Vanessa is in love with a handsome local bad boy, Dylan (AKA the Kahuna), who is involved in selling marijuana. One night, after a magical night with Vanessa, he just disappears. Gone. No word. The story picks up 15 years later; Vanessa is now with the FBI in Honolulu, when she hears from him. Without going into details or spoilers, let’s just say it gets terribly involved and interesting. Dirty cops, Thai drug cartel, old high-school friends, Dylan’s mom and brother. The story line, the setting, the characters fit right into the LCS KW ohana. This is one you don’t want to miss!

i am so happy that i was able to read this book. as someone who grew up on the Hawaiian Islands, i love the rich culture. the language and descriptions of the islands in this book took me home for a short time. this is one of those books that just when you figured out who done it your like oops the story takes a different turn, although this book complements The Lei Crime Series. you do not have to read them to be able to follow this story line. i really hope we get to see many more books from this writer

I think this is one of the best work from Scott Bury. I'm a great fan of his writing and also read his previous Lei crime series but this one is the best. You keep on guessing page after page, and it keeps you hooked all the time.
Must read for all suspense crime fiction lovers .
