I read this for an experiment I did on my YouTube channel where my best friend picked out my tbr. This book was straight up CREEPY. I liked having several different story lines to follow throughout this book. It made it an exciting experience and I liked seeing how it all came together in the end. The one thing that I feel iffy about is that it felt like this book was too busy. I tend to like books that are that way, because it keeps me excited, but I think there is a limit and this one passed t ...more

“You wield power no woman aught. You should be burned ALIVE!”

I listened to Teeth in the Mist on audio and the production is truly fantastic and creepy but I have also heard the paper version includes lots of little extras and artwork that you miss out on if listening only to the audio. As I’m a wee bit confused and feeling a little dazed after my listening, as if I just awoke from a fuzzy nightmare, I may go ahead and splurge for the hardcover and give it a reread and see if I can clarify some t

Both haunting and baffling, Teeth in the Mist falls somewhere between two and three stars. And I have simultaneously zero thoughts and every thought possible about it.

“Tempt a girl to evil using evil. How quaint your faith must seem to you. To bend it so.”

Let's start with the positives: a BIG one is originality. Yes, it's a loose interpretation of Dr. Faustus, but it's an elaborate and ambitious tale of it's own. Dawn Kurtagich is fucking fearless, unafraid of mixing three timelines, letters

This was NOT an easy read but it was a really interesting one. This book is a mix of House of Leaves in YA form and the exorcist...maybe? It's about the devil, it's about blood magic, and it's about generational terrors. This is a VERY dark YA novel, a very bloody and gruesome one but it did work for me.

Trigger warnings for death of a parent, abuse by parent, torture, branding, drowning, cutting, blood magic, sexual assault, parental neglect, the depiction of stillborn death and death of childr

I’ve read all of Dawn Kurtagich’s YA horror novels so far and Teeth in the Mist is probably the most elaborate but also the toughest to get into. A loose retelling of the legend of Faust who sells his soul to the devil for knowledge and power, the novel weaves together past and present to tell the stories of sixteen-year-old Zoey Root, a modern-day high school student, as well as Roan Eddington, a young woman who lived nea

The audiobook was a fantastic production. Multiple skilled narrators, music, sound effects. You can tell it was crafted with passion.

Unfortunately, I hated the actual story. Just like her first book, there are parts that didn't feel necessary to the story. Too many focus points meant too many open threads at the end. I didn't enjoy how the 4 timelines wove together, not enough payoff for me.

I think I would have enjoyed this more if it had focused on only 1 pov, as the isolation of And The Trees

All hail the new queen of goth romance and YA horror! This book is that rarest of things - something truly unique (it harkens back to goth classics of literature like Jane Eyre and Rebecca but is infused with a witchy, feminist sensibility that completely reconfigures the genre). READ THIS BOOK IN PHYSICAL FORM or you'll miss the GENIUS use of font/page color/graphics to build atmosphere and tension (one of my favorite things about this author's writing). And the romance - sweet lord, Dawn Kurta ...more

“epic horror-fantasy” okay this is my favourite genre crossed with my least favourite genre because I’m an actual pansy? And this actually sounds terrifying?

also I’m not fond of the cover - the publisher could’ve done so much better and we all know this, there was floods of potential

TEETH IN THE MIST, by Dawn Kurtagich is a dark, atmospheric tale that focuses on three separate timelines: The 1500's, the 1850's, and present. I had no problem in following along the different characters/years, and enjoyed the one set in the 1850's the most. The characters were the most "focused" on in this part, so they stood out the best. I loved the attitudes, suspicions, questions raised, and .... abilities that were brought into play.

For the majority of this book, I would have sa

OMG!! THIS AUDIO BOOK! forget yesterday, you needed this audio book last month! The cast of narrators is so freaking amazing. they REALLY get into reading this phenomenal story. the added sound effects and ambient noises is like sprinkles on top of the best birthday cake ever.
there is multiple stories going on at once, the story of Roan and Zoey mostly. they are tied together by Mill House. There is some other characters but they are the 2 main story lines. Between the narrators

I really, really loved And the Trees Crept In, so I had to read this bad boy! It was another very atmospheric read but this time with past and present POVs!

Let me start with Roan! I seriously loved her POV, and that one was a five star read for me! Her story was addicting, and there was all kinds of weird crap going on, and the romance parts were on point! Rapley was so adorable and lovely! Just brilliant!

I didn't connect with Zoey's POV chapters as much, only because I'm kind of confused by the

This is a tough book for me to rate, because I feel torn about it.

On one hand, it is ABSOLUTELY creepy, just as promised. For most of the book, I read a paper ARC and listened to the audiobook at the same time and let me tell you - the audiobook is performed phenomenally well! It is full cast and includes creepy whispers, background music, sound effects, and excellent narration. Listening definitely upped the creep factor for me. But the paper book boasts its own special features. It has old-tim

Odd, strange, unusual. Dark, sinister, twisted. Confusing. I wanted to like this so much, but it didn't make much sense. The writing style is like a puzzle box full of corner pieces, impossible to put together and get the full picture. The premise had heart, the artwork and effects were a unique touch, and the creep factor was definitely there, so that is why I am generously giving 3 stars. (I hadn't realized this book was by the same author of As The Trees Crept in. That book was disjointed but ...more

Cool. I'm not gonna sleep tonight. All I'll see is a shadow in the corner of my room on a rocking chair! The audiobook gave me the eeby geebies with the devil whispering and stuff. I read my first HORROR! I read Sawkill but it was more of a paranormal mystery. This was a HORROR and I liked it!

This was a fucking weird ass book. But you must expect that with Dawn Kurtagich. I read her other book The Dead House and it was equally as creepy. Both are also told in a very interesting format. The full cast audio for Teeth in the Mist was incredible, especially the male narrators.

We follow three young women separated by time, but their stories manage to intersect regardless. Zoey has always been obsessed with witches and the abandoned Medwyn Mill House. She takes her best friend, Poult

When I read the last sentence, I closed the book and stared at it in my lap for a solid minute. All I could think was “What the hell did I just read?”…. but in the best way possible! I'm on a horror novel kick lately, so I was super excited when my library got a copy of Teeth in the Mist. I've seen so many people say how creepy and dark and fantastic this book was so I couldn't wait to get my teeth into it. (Ha, see what I did there? Teeth.) If you’re looking for a really creepy and gruesome horror novel- then look no further! I listened to the audiobook and let me tell you- it is phenomenally well done! I’ve been struggling on how to write my review for this. So much I can’t tell. There are a few different POVs to follow and I did get a bit confused there. Other than those bumps in the road, I couldn’t put this down. It had a brooding, dream like quality to the telling.

I’m all for books with an isolated setting and anticipated some hard times for these characters. Hard was putting it mildly. Whether reading about the past events or current ones, they were in for a world of hurt. Medwyn Hill cou
