The outbreak killed many and forced the rest to evacuate towns and cities. In the Midwestern United States, a refugee camp shelters hundreds of survivors from the harsh reality of the new world. But how safe are they? Some suspect that their military overseers aren’t being completely honest with them. Others know more than they are willing to admit.
The Graham family are about to have any semblance of security ripped away. Together with their new found allies, they will have to learn how to survive in the realm of the dead, where there’s nowhere to hide and human flesh has become the ultimate prize.
Season one of this terrifying and bleak zombie apocalypse series contains eight episodes.
This publication also includes Finite: a poem by Ian Futter.
I’m 40 years old and live in Staffordshire in the UK. I’m as much in love with the world of film as I am with literature. My tastes are varied, but the horror genre feeds my imagination the most.
I regularly attend Film 4’s Frightfest film festival in London, and have met some of my heros and heroines there. I’m hoping one day to meet my all time favourite author, Clive Barker...we’ll see.
Until then, I’m working hard on my horror/fantasy trilogy, the Fallen Gods Saga. Book 1, Sanctuary 12, and Book 2, Fallen Gods: Infanticide, are available now. The final instalment, Fallen Gods: Mind over Matterless is my current project and should be ready early 2015.
I have several more projects lined up, including Fallen Gods Origins and a possible comic book! I hope you will find something you like within my work. If you like your romance dark and bloody, why not try my novella, The Last Cut is Always the Deepest.
One of the biggest tragedies in modern fiction is the lack of strong female characters. I don’t subscribe to this idea that a strong female in fantasy has to jump around doing martial arts in a tight costume. My female characters distinguish themselves by having a strong moral core, and being able to think under pressure without giving in to fear-induced aggression. I hope my characters offer something a little different for both female and male readers.
You may find my love for monsters quite apparent in my books. That’s because I adore them. We are all monsters in the end, aren’t we? Some beautiful, some not so much.
I would be very interested to speak to you, even if it’s just to talk about horror in general. Feel free to follow me on Twitter or drop a comment on my website. Take care until then, fellow monsters.
I give it 4.5 star. It was almost 5 star. It was very well developed and written. Characters nicely done. Whole lot of zombie action. After the small little group got away from the camp after being there for few month's now they are on their own trying to find better place. They run into trouble from the died and living. The ending leaves you grasping for more even how sad it is! Now way knocked off half a star because it started months after the outbreak. Doesn't tell you how it all started or where. Even with that I'll still be waiting for the next book to this series.
Honestly, wow. That best sums up my opinion of this book.
It's very similar to The Walking Dead but it's difficult to not be with any type of civilian survival zombie story. The characters are quirky and I really appreciated the uniqueness of some characters. The ending his heart wrenching and has left me feeling a bit lost (in a good way).
dnf @ 30something %. Up until now I didn’t connect with any of the characters, so I don’t really care what’s happening to them. Found myself skimming a lot and not really keen on reading. Theres some zombie action going on and the prose is okay too, idk, maybe it’s just me and my moods.
This is a gritty fight for survival which starts in a struggling refugee camp loosely guarded by apparently what's left of the military and/or National Guard. A zombie outbreak has ravaged everything. A core group (as always) breaks free of the camp in search of something better. I liked this book because it put together interesting, although they didn't really have time for chit chat, characters. This also did well as more characters were introduced which intersected with what I think of as the 'core' group. It showed how quickly people dehumanize and mistrust each other - granted that they correctly saw their circumstances as 'life or death.' This book managed to describe in words horrid stenches that is handily overlooked in film zombies. (I guess everyone holding their noses or retching wouldn't make them as appealing.) My rating is 4 stars for an engrossing grueling story. I think this book would appeal to anyone who enjoys The Walking Dead.
If you like Walking Dead, you'll love the first season of Everything Dies. It takes the usual zombie apocalypse tropes and adds in three-dimensional, compelling characters to make something that is more than the sum of its parts. Salty and Ethan both cracked me up and broke my heart, and I want to know what Raine's deal is. And that ending! Dark, dark, dark, but surprisingly satisfying. I really hope Season 2 is on its way soon because I can't wait to see what happens to our survivors.
I enjoyed this book WAY more than I thought I was going to! I ignored this title for far too long and I'm quite annoyed that I didn't read it earlier!
I may be biased because I am a huge fan of the Zombie genre but I was thoroughly impressed! Characters showed real agency (for the most part) and seemed to make realistic decisions, the story flowed effortlessly, and I was wrapped up in every minute detail of the plot! Every character was interesting and had their own quirks and flaws, there wasn't a single main character that I didn't at least sympathize with in one way or another. The season/episode/chapter format of this book annoyed me at first, but grew on me so quickly in a way that I didn't at all expect. It really made it easier and less jarring when switching perspectives between the many very interesting characters!
My only gripes with the book are me nitpicking, honestly. The author is british and it is very very obvious, the way the characters spoke was often awkward or clunky/ outdated and I often got confused by words used, so much in fact that I had to download a british dictionary to my Kindle just so that I could understand the slang- and I'm FROM the area where the book takes place! I also have to mention that there were multiple formatting, grammatical, and spelling errors in the edition that I got from Amazon- but I'm willing to chalk that up to a bad kindle port. Overall the book was highly enjoyable and I WILL be reading the others in the series!
All in all not too graphic or upsetting, felt like a perfect amount of gore and violence for the genre and showed a very commendable amount of restraint with some of the ...more upsetting scenes, giving just enough description to be off-putting (duh, zombies are gross and violent) but never becoming genuinely upsetting.
4.5 stars Everything Dies is an great zombie book. It really captures the essence of a zombie apocalypse in the sense of realism. The ending of the book is fantastic and I really enjoyed it. There is a lot of action and characters make logical and realistic decisions, I enjoyed the group that had come together by the end but I will say I didn't fall in love and like many of the characters personally but as a character in a book I think they were interesting. Part of me would love to have had the book written as POV chapters instead of third person but that doesn't mean the writing style was poor or bad, just different.
Alongside Omega Days, these books capture the exact style of early episodes of The Walking Dead and the type of zombie apocalypse I really enjoy reading. I would give it 5 stars if I loved the characters more.
I don't think there was a single thing in this novel I hadn't encountered before in other post-apocalyptic narratives. Following this group's struggle for survival might have been better served by more first person perspectives. As it was, the third person narration was so lacking in a distinct voice that all these people just seemed like assholes. There were also a fair number of British infelicities in a narrative set in the States. Also, just once, I'd like for the cartoonishly evil bad guys not to threaten or engage in sexual violence in order to prove the situation serious.
A wonderfully written zombie book. It doesn't try to change the genre or come up with a new twist. It's the classic zombie survival with wonderful characters - moments of hope and despair.
I really liked the character development in this book.
I stayed up multiple nights after my 12 hour shifts, trying to squeeze more and more of this book in before i had to force it out of my hand to get some sleep.
If you like the classic zombie apocalypse - with no gimicks to the genre, read this book. You won't be disappointed.
Once I got going with this one I didn’t want to put it down. I like the way it opened with everyone already in a camp with the military in control. Your suspicions are aroused as men go out but don’t return. The news broadcast has been looped, replaying the same segment over and over. A twist I failed to see coming…and we have a small group escape from the camp to find their way to safety. I won’t go any further, you must read his yourself. I’m glad it did!
OK Malpas, I see you! This was a solid zombie apocalypse read and a brilliant season 1!
I loved how the sections were split, which made it seem shorter to read and easy to fly through. I loved the character development and emotion that comes through in parts, including numerous shock factor moments.
The ending fell a bit flat, and a clear attempt to lure the reader to season 2, but overall it's a really good read. Perfect for fans of The Walking Dead.
I got this book on kindle unlimited so it did not cost much. That said I would have given it more stars except for the abrupt ending that was obviously designed to encourage you to purchase the next book, whick is not on kindle unlimited and quite expensive for 200 plus pages. If the book ever comes on kindle unlimited I would be happy to read it.
Great book, the characters are well written, i am still dying to know more about them but you learn about them as they travel to find a safe place in a world with zombies. There is a lot of violence but it is well written. Many sad events and the ending is cliff hanger, i am def going to be reading the next book.
It kept me interested throughout couldn't put it down Sometimes books haveso many characters that it's hard to keep up which who everyone is this has just enough that you don't get confused. There are many books in this series don't know if I'll read them all but if it keeps me this interested I may do that.
What happens to the world when the dead rise?...This is one author's view of it...Really good book, couldn't put it down until I finished it...Great characters and storyline..
For me, reading this book felt like watching an episode of The Walking Dead. There are some points in the story that are absolute gut punches. If you like zombie stories, I would highly recommend this series.
I must say as a fan of zombie apocalypse movies and tv shows this really speaks to me. Good writing, good characters and good scenes describing action and gore. I think I will read season 2 as well.
DNF 20%. Writing seemed very lackluster and I didn't get any real sense of a difference in character style. Skim read the last few pages and more of the same plodding style. Seemed promising but not for me.
What a scary and heart breaking tale. A small group of people start the zombie Apocolypse in a FEMA camp. Everything starts going wrong as food supplies get short.
Well written and satisfying. The characters are well thought off with good twist and follow through. Highly recommended for Zombie story lovers like me.
