A Perfect Fit #3

More to Love

Rate this book
This laugh-out-loud romantic comedy proves that, when enemies become lovers, all bets are off!

Jessa Gibson may be new in the little town of Granite, Texas, but in no time at all her gourmet food truck business is booming. Soon she'll have enough money to open the restaurant of her dreams. But first, she'll have to appease the hot local health inspector, no matter how strange his "violations" sound to her. No pink plastic gloves? Really?

Max Hager isn't exactly who he says he is. Pretending to be a health inspector is a (mostly) innocent mistake. A mistake made way worse by Max's immediate, electrifying attraction to the curvy, sexy, redheaded chef. Throw in a whole lot of lust, and things in Jessa's little kitchen are about to really start heating up. But can Max find a way to come clean with Jessa before his little deception turns into a recipe for disaster?

I really enjoyed this cute romance!😍 There was a lot of parts that made me giggle and this was another quick and sweet read. The only reason that I didn’t give this one 5 stars is because Max really annoyed me in the beginning but he grew on me. I really liked this stoy because of having a curvy woman as the main character as well, being a plus size lady myself, it made me smile a bit and was relatable at times.

I want to thank the publishers and NetGalley for providing me with an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

I had some issues with this book. This was really more of a 2.5-star read but since I am feeling generous, I am rounding up. I have had a review copy of this book for quite a while but hadn't had the chance to read it so I decided to pick up the audiobook and give it a try. I thought that the narrator did a great job but I just couldn't ever get completely behind this story.

Jessa was great. She was confident and an all-around nice girl. She worked hard and wanted to play by the rules. She wasn't afraid to take risks or go for what she wants. And then there is Max. Max ruined this story for me. He lies when he meets Jessa and doesn't stop lying for the whole book. Jessa deserved better than that.

I did enjoy seeing Jessa connect with the people in town. I also thought that Max and Jessa had great chemistry and there was some potential for their relationship. My problem is the Max waits way too long to come clean and his lies go on way too long. He even takes steps to keep the deceit going after he has started to get involved with her. There were just a lot of lines crossed in this story. Every time Max had an opportunity to come clean with Jessa and didn't take it, I lost some respect for his character. By the end of the book, I had no respect left. Jessa deserved better.

I thought that Violet Strong did a great job with the narration. Her narration was one of the highlights of the book. She did a great job with the character voices and had a great reading voice. I had no problem listening to her narration for hours at a time. I wouldn't hesitate to listen to more of her narration work.

I think that there are some readers that will enjoy this one more than I did. I have a hard time with romances where one character is deceiving the other so this one didn't work for me. I haven't quite given up on this author and would love to try more of her work in the future.

I received a digital review copy of this book from Forever (Grand Central Publishing) via NetGalley and purchased a copy of the audiobook.

Initial Thoughts
More like 2.5 stars but I am rounding up because the narrator did a good job. I didn't like Max at all. It is really hard to fully enjoy a romance when one of the characters is completely unlikable. Max is lying for almost the entire story and I think that it was a big enough deception to make it hard to want to see this relationship work. Jessa was great and I think she deserved better.

Whew. Yall. Usually if I'm gonna have issues it's the heroine. But this time? This time...nope. Fab heroine. The hero, though? Sweet Baby Jesus.

The Gist: Max in his fucked up brilliance decides to impersonate a health inspector so he can run off a new food truck that's taken up in the area and is harming his friend's restaurant. And in the process is a total wanker shit even though he's completely taken and falling for the lady who owns said food truck he's trying to run off.

Okay. So lets start with Jessa because she's a pretty awesome heroine. Smart, ambitious, talented. She rocks her plus sized curves and a hot skillet. She's passionate about food and trying interesting fusions and I just enjoyed her character immensely.

And then there's Max. Who is a neurotic fucked up mess that needs to eat a goddamned cheese burger in hopes it'll make his hungry food deprived "healthy" ass a little less fucking stupid. Yeah. I will give Max one thing. He'll do anything to help his friends and the people important to him. But he's such a dumb ass wanker. The struggle was real, yall.

The romance. When Max wasn't being an asswipe I liked them together. They were opposites in a lot of ways but that worked for them. Things get very steamy and whew boy yeah they heat things up right good but it was hard to fully buy into the romance since Max was, well, Max and he spent nearly the entire book lying to her.

One of my main issues, though, was the hero and food. He'd been fat as a kid and as an adult was so fixated and rigid about eating "healthy" it came across as an eating disorder. For example. They go to dinner and he's thinking how horrified he is watching her eat a salad because the ranch dressing had so many calories. Wouldn't eat a single taco from her food truck and wouldn't dare eat a slice of pizza, a muffin, a regular sandwich, fries, dressing, anything from his friend's cafe other than grilled chicken and sweet potatoes or maybe a veggie burger because one bite of anything else and it would throw his diet off track for months. It was just sad how frantic he was over food and something that needed to be addressed because it was not healthy in any way. But it was completely ignored.

Overall... oy. I seem to love elements of Bliss's books and struggle with others. This time I really loved the heroine and who she was and the town and everything but the hero just grated my last fucking nerve.

The latest in the Perfect Fit series features Max, the instigator friend of the heroes and heroines of the last two books, and Jess, a chef who runs her own food truck. She’s just moved to Granite and she’s taken the town by storm. Unfortunately, another restaurant is suffering and as a consequence, Max leaps before he looks and decides to lie to Jess by telling her that he’s a food inspector and puts her through some hoops. And yes, along the way, some romance happens.
description

The Good. In this case, I really liked that Max is the one with the food issues, having been the chubby kid who was picked on and determined to beat his food addiction. I loved Jess, who picked up and decided to follow her dream and move to a new town and start a new business. I loved seeing my fave couple from the previous book. When the focus is on Max and Jess’s romance, I enjoyed their interaction and I wanted more. However….

The Bad. That blurb above? It was painful to type, because I thought the “lie” was pointless and really detracted from the story. There was so much to unpack with Max’s strict diet, just falling for a BBW who isn’t that strict with her diet and cooks so many delicious and rich foods was a big theme that isn’t typically explored in romances, especially from the male POV. THAT was the story that I wanted to read and that I felt would come organically from these characters. The food inspector lie was annoying, made Max look worse than he needed to (and I was excited for his story), and made the big beats that were going to play out pretty obvious. And yes, the “surprise” twist at the end? How much better could it have been if it was woven through the story from the beginning. That lie was such a waste of a story.

Everything in Between. There was some good moments with past characters (shoutout to Logan and Valerie, how I loved you two). I liked the detail in the food truck scenes, which felt genuine. Basically, I enjoyed anything that wasn’t tied to the big lie, because I could see the story it could have been, not the story it ended up being.

description

I really, really wished I liked this story more than I did. Max was the one I was looking forward to, but the central plot point regarding the lie was just pointless and didn’t work for me.

If you want to check out this series, I’d recommend On the Plus Side and pass on this one. *shrugs* Oh well.

More to Love (the 3rd installment of the Perfect Fit series) was absolutely fantastic and I loved everything about it! It was a fun and sexy read that was highly entertaining and the perfect escape from the real world.

I loved Jessa’s independence and sassy attitude and Max showed a different and lovable side that the reader didn’t get to see in the previous novels. Jessa and Max are adorable together and their chemistry is one for the record books! Not only did we have the most cutest romance ever, there was even a twist that was totally unexpected!

Easy to read, interesting characters and a story that was impossible to step away from, More to Love proved once again what an amazing writer Alison Bliss is, and I can’t wait to see what she gives us next. Whatever it is, I know without a doubt it’s going to be outstanding!

More to Love is well deserving of a 5-star rating and I highly recommend it to any fan of romantic comedies with characters that anyone can relate too.

I have nothing but love for Alison Bliss and her Perfect Fit series. She empowers women with a strength of character that is light hearted and in no way mean spirited. She proves that you don't have be a size 0 to get the most out of life. This time around, she gives the tale a surprising twist in Max Hager. He's funny, sexy, an all around stand up guy with hidden insecurities that haunt him everyday. Jessa is a go getter. She doesn't wait for life to happen to her. She makes it happen for herself. Max could learn a few things from her. More to Love is a pleasurable, humorous and heartwarming look at how the plus size live. It inspires and for that I admire her and am a fan for life.

Why did I read this? Why? I managed to finish it but only because I forgot to download my next book.

The basic premise of the story is that Max, a local electrician, comes back to town after visiting his parents for two weeks. He finds out his friend and sort of father figure might lose his business at the end of the month because someone started parking their food truck in the park across the street from his restaurant and all, yes all, of the diner’s customers are now eating lunch at the food truck. (We will come back to this.) Max decides to help him out and pretend to be the new Health Inspector to scare of the food truck guy. Instead of a male owner, he meets Jessa. Sexist Max feels bad about trying to run off a woman but he needs to help Pops and keeps up the guise of Health Inspector. As he gets to know Jessa, and they begin having sex, Max knows he has to come clean but he is afraid to lose his lady over the lies.

Here’s my problems with this story. In More to Love, we have awkward characters and no real romantic connection. The only thing we really know aboux Max is that he was a chubby kid/teen who decided to start eating well and exercising and now is very cut. But Max fears returning to his prior chubby self and is over obsessive about what he eats. Since Max can’t cook and can only make himself bagged lettuce, he ended up being befriended by the man who owns the local diner, Pops, who makes Max a “special” every day for lunch. Special is their code for healthy meal along the lines of grilled chicken and vegatables or veggie burger and baked fries. They need a code because it is wrong to eat healthy? Maybe unmanly? Pop doesn’t have anything healthy on his menu so that Max can just order a #12? I will conceed that it is funny that whenever Max’s friend Sam comes in and asks if he can have the special too, Pops tells him that they just ran out. Of course, Sam eats a burger and fries almost every day so you wouldn’t think he would be interested in whatever special Max gets because he has to see what Max is eating every day.

Let’s stop and talk about Max’s food issue. Do you know anyone who eats super healthy or organic or everything kale, or is super into exercise who doesn’t like to talk about it, obsessively? Whether it is a runner or someone who just starts a new diet, they have to tell you every healthy meal they ate for the last week. Yet Max acts like it’s a dirty secret. His friends have to notice that he never, ever, ever eats anything decadant. So why does Max treat eating healthy like he’s wearing women’s underwear? I need the “special”, *wink*wink*.

Max is also a bit horrified by Jessa’s eating habits whether she is just having a sandwich or eating cold pepperoni pizza for breakfast. Jessa is average/plus size and doesn’t obsess about not being a size 2, nor does she obsess about what she is eating. Instead of talking to Jessa about eating healthier, Max runs home to eat. This is actually something he fears anyone find out, even more than the fact that he’s been lying to Jessa about being the health inspector.

I never felt any real connection between them, but they begin having sex even though Jessa knows it is a bad decision to sleep with a man who (she thinks) has control over her ability to do business. And not only is Max horrified by Jessa’s food choices, he keeps trying to get a rise out of her by making up stupid health violations and is disappointed when she meekly agrees to make the changes. He likes a woman with more fire! Of course he never thinks that a smart woman trying to run a business would know better than to mouth off to the man who can shut down her food truck. Jessa also overhears her friends say that they are surprised about Max and Jessa dating (although they never go on a date) because the women Max “dates” are all very thin. So far Max likes thin, spunky women who eat healthy and Jessa is none of this, and there is not much internal monologue where Max is explaining why he can’t get enough of Jessa. When his friends figure out what Max has done and question his relationship with Jessa considering that he has been lying to her, he gets angry and declares how well he knows Jessa. But really, he doesn’t. They really only have sex and not until most of the way through the story does he even bother to ask her any personal questions. And the sex scene aren’t even that great but then again Max is “well-hung” so that makes up for it, right?

Just to go back to the reason Max lies in the first place, Pop’s literally has no one coming into his diner except for Max and his friend Sam for a month. Not. One. Person. Because they are all eating every day at a food truck??? Our office cafeteria has been closed for two months now being redesigned and every day they have one or two food trucks stop in. They rotate them because each truck specializes in something different (pizza, hot dogs, cajun, etc) and each only have 5 to 10 things on their menu. They rotate them because NO ONE wants to eat that same unhealthy food truck offering for more than once in a week. You can’t tell me everyone in town is going to eat from same food truck every day for a month and no one is going into Pop’s restaurant unless there is something wrong with Pop’s restaurant. There is also just Pop there at the restaurant. Did he let go his cooks and waitresses because no one came in for a few days. Those people need to make a living too.

Yes, I am often told I analyse this stuff too much but if you are giving me a romance with no real romance between the main hero and heroine, I am going to start nitpicking the rest of the story since there is nothing else of interest going on. I wanted to just DNF and move on from this and the only reason I finished is because I forgot to download my next book. I had no wifi and it was either re-read something or just finish this.

Before deciding on accepting a review copy of this book, I looked at the other Alison Bliss story I read, Size Matters, because I simply couldn’t remember it enough to recall what I thought about her writing. I don’t know why I focused on the one good scene in the story before I grabbed this one but I did, ignoring my own notes on the poor character building in the prior book. Well, I am sorry I didn’t read my own review a bit more carefully. Worse, it wasn’t until I was writing this review that I even noticed that I started, book 2 More to Love, and tossed it because I hated the characters, all except MAX who I thought would be so funny and make a great love interest!!

This time I am going to make a note NOT to grab the next book in this series.

More to Love was yet another charming and fun romance novel. I went into this book wanting that was entertaining and a fast read and this book was just that!

The characters in this book were all so cute and adorable. Jessa, the main female character, was such a kind, warm-hearted, and passionate woman. I admired her dedication to her job and how desperately she wanted her business to succeed. Jessa's love for her family was so sweet and relatable. Max was a character that really rubbed me the wrong way in the beginning. He came off as brash, demanding, and even rude. I wasn't sure if I was even going to end up liking him. However, I ended up really enjoying his character. He ended up being a fierce, loyal, and protective man.

The romance between Jessa and Max was full of passion and steam. From their first interaction, I could tell there was a lot of attraction between them. The sexual chemistry between Jessa and Max was off the charts! The author has a wonderful way of taking two characters who seem like complete opposites actually and making them very compatible for each other. The romance did feel like insta-love, but I still enjoyed the romance between Jessa and Max.

If you are a fan of this series or are just in the mood for an adorable romance, then I would definitely recommend checking this book out!

Note: this ARC was received from the publisher for my honest review.

2 stars - I... well... this book just wasn’t for me. It was... well, eh. The story was ok. The characters could have been rounded out and polished so much more. But the writing? Yeah... just wasn’t for me. I don’t mind reading fluffy stories. I enjoy them. But books need to be at least written halfway well.

I think I’ve read this author in the past. Without looking, at least I think I have. So, that’s saying something too.

I don’t know. It was hard to read. It was hard to loose myself in and enjoy.

It was without a doubt a book that wasn’t for me.

I gave this one two stars because I trudged through it and finished it. I could see where it had potential too.

Oh and even though this was the third book in a series I didn’t feel as if I’ve missed anything from previous books. Each title appears to follow different characters, so it wasn’t a problem to read this one as a stand alone.

Yeah. That’s all I got.

Alison Bliss always seems to be able to put a smile on my face and that is exactly what this story did. A quirky tale of a white lie gone astray, More To Love is a fun, sexy, and a great way to distract yourself from a boring day.

While I will say that this book leans slightly on the silly side of romance humor, I can admit that I was unable to stop reading. Alison Bliss' mixed a body positive message and a yummy alpha man with the small town vibe I have come to love from her.

I have never read a book by Alison Bliss that I didn't enjoy and More To Love is yet another book I can easily recommend to all romance lovers.

I receive this book from the author for an honest review.

Jess and Max!! This book was a great addition to the series. I loved that we got to see our old friends but also got to fall for new characters.

Max is down right pissy that this new food truck is taking business away from his fav mom and pop restaurant. So, he decided to play a trick on the bull-headed owner which ends up biting him in the butt when the feisty and hot owner happens to be a woman. A woman who takes all his crap code violations and goes with it.

Jess is annoyed by confused by the new health inspector. Is he hitting on me??? No way but I think he is but what????? Hello conflict of interest!!!

Max’s little lie ends up causing quite a problem for the couple because he doesn’t come clean with her until it’s a bit too late. Feelings are very involved between the two characters and Jess is really hurt about being lied too.

I loved the story and it flowed so easy. I sat and devoured this book in one sitting. As with all of Alison’s books I laughed at the characters and I also yelled at the characters. But all in all I love the love story each character goes through to find their one true person.

A cute romance novel. Though this story fell into quite a few of the romace novel tropes, I did find the characters very loveable, and wanted things to work out.
Max, our chubby kid turned hunk was a character that I both loved and hated. Loved how he treated Jessa (our curvy girl protagonist) on the romantic side of their relationship, but didn't love the trope that caused the main conflict in the novel.
The loveable side characters enhanced my enjoyment of the novel. All in all, nothing earth shattering or different, but fun and steamy none the less.

What an underwhelming read. After being blown away by two previous books, this one is definitely the least of my favorite. Mostly because the Hero is selfish AF. I was expecting the heroine to bust his balls a little bit more but.. You know how this usually ends. It's exactly like you think.

More to Love is a whole lot of trouble. Open your mouth once and bam! Instant trouble. A mouth watering temptation is now your personal problem. If only he hadn't lied...

An unusual situation leads to an unlikely relationship but it's a house of cards. And the collapse might just cost everything...

More to Love is sweet with a side of sass. Plenty of fun and naughtiness to keep you turning pages.

When a new food truck sets up shop across the street from his favorite eatery and drives business away from his favorite cook, Max Hager decides to take matters into his own hands and send them packing. So, he decides to assume the identity of his buddy, the new health inspector, and convince the food truck owner that they are violating the law, but once he is standing in front of the owner he has a little trouble looking her in the face and lying to her, he was prepared to deal with a man, not a gorgeous buxom redhead. The moment their eyes meet he is smitten, and with each encounter that follows things really start to heat up, and before long he just can't stay away! But what will happen when she learns that he wasn't being completely truthful with her?

Jessa Gibson's little pipe dream is starting to take shape and become a reality, her little food truck idea is really panning out, and flourishing in Granite. She is her own boss and doing what she has always wanted to do, she's taking her own unique recipes, and turning them into delectable meals, and not having to answer to anyone, or cook things off of their chosen menus. But then the Granite health inspector shows up and starts to wreak havoc on her newfound happiness...

Between the pages of this delightful romance read you will find a clever story line, with well crafted characters, that are sure to have you laughing, blushing and cheering them on the whole way through!! I loved this final installment in the Perfect Fit series, it had the small town charm I have come to love about this series, the playful banter and witty comebacks that I look forward to, and the steamy love scenes that are guaranteed to leave you blushing and weak in the knees! I have to say this was my favorite pairing in the series, I connected to them right off the bat, and their amazing chemistry kept things interesting and nice and toasty!! Highly recommend you get your hands on this series, each story is exquisitely crafted, highly entertaining and filled with some very memorable characters that are sure to leave an indelible impression on your heart!

More to Love
A Perfect Fit
By Alison Bliss

Brought to you by OBS reviewer Andra

Summary

This laugh-out-loud romantic comedy proves that, when enemies become lovers, all bets are off!

Jessa Gibson may be new in the little town of Granite, Texas, but in no time at all her gourmet food truck business is booming. Soon she’ll have enough money to open the restaurant of her dreams. But first, she’ll have to appease the hot local health inspector, no matter how strange his “violations” sound to her. No pink plastic gloves? Really?

Max Hager isn’t exactly who he says he is. Pretending to be a health inspector is a (mostly) innocent mistake. A mistake made way worse by Max’s immediate, electrifying attraction to the curvy, sexy, redheaded chef. Throw in a whole lot of lust, and things in Jessa’s little kitchen are about to really start heating up. But can Max find a way to come clean with Jessa before his little deception turns into a recipe for disaster?

Review

Having read this series from the beginning, I was definitely looking forward to Max’s story. The author, Alison Bliss, does not disappoint. I thoroughly enjoyed the read -> laughing, tearing up, wondering what the heck Max was thinking (you big lunk head) or even…you go girl (referring to Jessa and her spunk).

One of the great things I really liked about this story was that the “weight issue” was Max’s (though I was stumped as to why he went to such great lengths to hide his eating habits?). Jessa was perfectly happy with her plus size. Another element I really enjoyed was the use of humour and I love some of the sarcastic internal dialogue at the beginning with Jessa:

” What was wrong with her? She was getting hot and bothered by the hunky dimwit who happened to be the health inspector. As if that was a smart move.”

In the beginning we get a sense of Max’s issues with food as he eats a majority of his meals at the Empty Plate Café (owned and ran by Pops) in Granite, Texas. When Max returns home from a quick vacation at his parents, The Empty Plate Café is empty – a surprise to Max! All because of a new food truck that arrived in town after he had left for vacation – situated in the park right across the street from the café. So what does Max do but head off to the food truck with the bright idea of impersonating a health inspector to drive the food truck away. But of course, the owner is the attractive Jessa (much to Max’s surprise). Pretty predictable, Max finds Jessa attractive (and to have no confusion – Jessa finds Max attractive as well). Some of the “violations” Max throws out are chuckle worthy. But soon Max’s diabolical plan starts to unravel… Jessa fixes every “infraction” quickly and without complaining. This continues on for a couple of days. Seems like Max’s plan is not working and he is developing a bit of a crush for this gal. What’s a guy to do but ask the girl out?

When Jessa and Max start the personal side of their relationship, the heat turns up. All I have to say is be careful reading this…it is HOT!

One aspect of this series I quite enjoyed is that each book also incorporates quite well all of the main characters from the other books in the series to at least some degree. We got to see more of Valerie and Logan as well as Leah and Sam. This definitely added to my enjoyment of reading about the town of Granite, Texas.

One little bone of contention – the pretending to be the health inspector could have ended a bit sooner or been played down a bit – it did seem to dominate the story. There were other story tangents that I found more interesting – like Jessa’s mother and her travel diaries or the struggles Jessa has had since her mother passed. Additionally, maybe Max should also get a handle on his temper. It was hard to read about him losing his temper so quickly. He is obviously a good guy, but seems that his “weight issues” left a bit of whole in his social handling of unpleasant situations.

Overall, this was a delightful addition to the A Perfect Fit series. I love Alison Bliss’ writing of this series and recommend you pick up this book (as well as the other two) and read them for yourself. I look forward to any new titles that may yet to come in this series.

I was excited at first to read this book. I was totally impressed with the fresh approach Alison was taking on the plus size. With the being from the POV of Max Hager a man. To let us into the mind of a man and just how much they can suffer from the stinkin’ thinkin’ as we women do.

And that when they lose their weight and are trying to maintain their goal weight how it can be a sticky situation. Because I guess are looked at by other men as superior beings who have much better willpower.

Being that he couldn’t cook left him with little options. Once he left home. Being an only child of a mother who showed her love through her cooking he had to get out and go to a trade school. An electrician was what interested him. He also got a trainer and a food plan. Still one problem. Can’t cook. He was tired of salads and fruits.

He started checking out the restaurants but none had anything on his food plan. Until he walked into The Empty Plate Café, meeting Pops. You see he didn’t see anything on the menu he could eat. Being that the place was so packed he didn’t think anyone would notice him leaving. Pops did though. He asked if there was a problem, in a way Max knew he really cared. Not like his parents who he had told about his eating plan but still served the same food they always did when he visited.

So, Max found himself telling Pops about being overweight as a kid, about losing the weight, and being on a maintains plan. Pops looked at him with some thought and then said I’ve got something I can fix you that will meet your needs. From now on when you come in just ask for the special and I will have something that will meet your eating plan.

From that moment on Max has been Pops’ loyal customer. Now he’s on his way back from a two-week stay at his parents and he can’t wait to get back. All he has thought about is a hot cooked meal from Pops’ place. Since he can’t cook and he didn’t feel he could ask his mother to cook two different meals all he has eaten is fruit and salads all the time back home. But when he arrives is a packed parking lot but he is the only customer in the place.

He finds out through Pops that a new food truck has set itself up right across the street at the park and is stealing all his business. So, he decides to pretend to be the new health inspector that is not been hired yet. In order to get the guy to move away from the area of Pops place. He really wants to help Pops out. Really? I got to 18% of this book and couldn’t go any further.

Here’s why….I finally figured out why. Max is being a bully. While he talks himself out of the fact that he is really not being one. While the whole time he is, he likes to really think he's a champion of women but he's being a bully. Not overly mean no but lying. But then what got me is that he was being intimidating and sexually harassing to her when he went into the truck for the first time making her feel uncomfortable by way of her still thinking he was the health inspector who could pull her license. I am all for the people being attracted, which they are. I get the bantering, which they do like sexual foreplay.

For someone who had been teased his whole life he should have known better than to bully her. He keeps talking to himself about how he is not a douche to women and he would be the first to defend them yet here he is sexually harassing her at her workplace. But the minute he took it inside and put hands on her hips it is no longer a game. Whether he is a real inspector or not that is harassment and I say, “No Stop! Flag on the field!” Nothing may have happened I'm sure but it made her feel uncomfortable. I was done. Story over for me.

Which was too bad. I think this could have really been a good solid book with not only funny moments but good learning tools as to how you can just have an eating plan, exercise, to keep it off that you have to talk about it or you never get rid of the demons that cause you to allow the food to run your life. I really loved her other two books and I really wanted to love this one too.

AudioBook Review
Stars: Overall: 3 Narration 4 Story 2

I’d read the first in this series and really liked it – and this book brought in characters from that book, as well as a couple that were newer to me – but the premise is entirely the same. Acceptance … accepting yourself even if you aren’t the prototype of what’s popular or “hot” and the issues that surround finding that acceptance. And in this book, Bliss throws us a curveball using a completely confident, sassy and well-balanced heroine that is a ‘curvy’ girl, and gives us a hero who, after a childhood as a ‘fat kid’ still struggles with his own food issues and the remnants of the past. But, let’s get to the story.

Jess is a girl that loves life, laughter, food and isn’t afraid to work hard to achieve a balance. Taking a chance and moving to Granite Texas, her dream is a restaurant, but her gourmet food truck will be the way to achieve it. She’s loving the place, and with business booming, it just may be time for her to start thinking in terms of a location for her restaurant. There’s just one problem – the health inspector and his repeated ‘violations’ and seeming eagle-eye on her business. But all is not what it seems - Max isn’t a health inspector: he’s actually acting on a half-baked idea that shutting down the food truck will help his friend’s ailing restaurant. Oh yes- he did. And this deception from Max, a deception that he continues to use even as he and Jess start to build a friendship (and more) is one of the many reasons that I can’t LOVE this book: in fact I liked about half of it. The Jess half. And those moments when Max was actually releasing some of that ironclad control and actually allows himself to enjoy Jess and her company. Even after coming ‘clean’, Max was left without a real sense of purpose or direction, and the only image I can conjure up about him borders on an eating-disorder. See, he’s so rigid and paranoid about any food that doesn’t “fit” into his idea of healthy food is not in the list of consideration, and his obsession about ‘eating healthy’ feels a bit too close to textbook definitions of people suffering with eating disorders.

Sadly, when you ignore the lies and see that Max’s reasons for being so rigid are tied to his childhood, there’s not much left to enjoy in the more typical ‘romance’ sense of the word. For when Jess first finds those quirks kind of ‘cute’ in a ‘what can I do about it’ sort of way, her ability to see the best pieces of Max don’t feel like enough as we know the depths to which he’ll go to deceive.

Fortunately, much of the interactions with earlier couples from the series, and some truly stellar moments where Jess’ good nature and humor shine through do help to keep listeners engaged and entertained, when they aren’t making snide comments about Max’s behavior. (Or perhaps that is just me.)

Narration for this story is provided by Violet Strong, and as with the first in the series, she manages to clearly present each character with a unique tone and pace that distinguishes characters and allows listeners to gather a ‘sense’ of both mood and attitude of each. Never stepping over a line or over-reaching for a moment, she inserts plausible breaks and tone changes that mimic conversations, feeling natural and plausible.

What’s it About? New to town Jessa Gibson's food truck is a hit and she couldn't be happier. Finally she feels like Granite, Texas is somewhere she could belong until a pesky but hunky health inspector starts telling her that she's violating some strange ordinances. Like no pink gloves! Posing as a health inspector to chase Jessa out of town and help a friend get his diner back on track has to be one of Max Hager's dumbest ideas but once he starts he can't seem to stop or to stay away from Jessa. As the two begin to give in to their mutual attraction, Max's deception weighs heavier and heavier on him but he can't seem to find a way to tell Jessa before she finds out on her own and when she finally does find out, Max realizes he doesn't want things to end between them.

Overall reaction to the story? I was excited to read More to Love because I liked Max so much in the previous book. He was a fun guy but by the time I finished this book I was wondering where that mischievous guy from On the Plus Side went! I wasn’t so keen on this version of Max who seemed like he had no direction at all, much less a sense of humor. I loved Jessa though, she was a hoot and a total foodie. The plot itself was okay but there was a “secret” that would have made for a better, stronger plot than Max’s whole lie thing. I was left going “That’s it? That’s all we get with such a big secret? A handful of pages and not much character reaction???” I had issues with the whole "Max pretends to be a health inspector" bit because it went on much longer than it should have and ignored what should have been a more significant part of the book but I did like this book as a whole, I just didn't fall in love with it.

Describe the hero in five words: Impulsive. Obsessive. Loyal. Stubborn. Secretive.

Did you like him? Meh, he was alright.

Why? Max was not the guy he was in the previous book and that was a shame because I really liked that guy and was expecting him to be the same here. He wasn’t and I think it was in big part to his lie about being the food inspector. He was so preoccupied with keeping up that ridiculous lie that he wasn’t being himself. I did like that he was the one with the eating disorder because it gave More to Love a chance to show a different perspective of some people’s war with food. There wasn’t a lot of time devoted to that though which was another puzzler because it was such a big part of Max’s life and in a way it controlled him. That was a waste of a conflict. Honestly I thought he fell flat compared to how he was as a secondary character. There was no mischief, very little humor from him, and he was a bit too much in the beginning. I will say that he remained a good friend to Valerie, despite her fiancee’s dislike of him, again another waste of an opportunity for Max to be well, the Max I fell for in the past.

Describe the heroine in five words: Confident. Spunky. Smart. Sweet. Talented.

Did you like her? Love her.

Why? Jessa is total BFF material. She’s fun to be around, easy to like, and best of all, she’s comfortable in her own skin. She wouldn’t be the type to make a fellow female feel like “The Ugly One” because she’s a wannabe supermodel or socialite. Jessa feels confident whether she’s in a pretty outfit, or her pjs and I love that about her. She knows her food too which definitely ups her BFF score, she’s definitely the type of person I could be friends with. Her charm and sweet personality hide a sassy interior though; she doesn’t take crap from anyone, more points for her! She’s just all types of awesome and she was definitely the funny one.

Let’s talk about the romance: Max and Jessa had some pretty serious sparks from the get go, and their interactions ranged from fun and flirty to down and dirty. i loved them together but I feel that the romance got dialed down A LOT due to Max's little charade. He couldn't really let go and be himself because of that dang lie! The worst part is that the lie was kept up until the last possible minute, making everything feel rushed and in a way making it seem like Max and Jessa were back at square one because Max wasn't a health inspector and that's what Jessa knew him as. She had to get to know him again in a sense and what with the lie being revealed so close to the end, I didn't feel that they had the chance to reconnect and work through that deception before the story ended. They had the makings of a great couple I just didn't feel satisfied that their story had reached the "Happy Ending" part.

How about that supporting cast? I love this group of friends, they all have different personalities that go really well together. Valerie, Logan, Sam, and Leah are all a great bunch of people. They're fun, accepting, and loyal. My one issue was with a BIG secondary secret that involves Logan. Something like that should have never been treated as an afterthought. It was a big deal and should have been properly addressed from about midway at the very latest to give Logan and the other person involved time to adjust and grow as characters from that reveal. It could have been a much better driving point for the story than keeping up Max's lie. Plus, I didn't quite get the reaction I was hoping for from Max at that little tidbit.

Click It or Skip It? Click It. I may have had some issues with Max and the plot but Jessa is too awesome to ignore and there were some good parts to More to Love that shouldn't be missed.

The latest in the Perfect Fit series “ More to Love” by Alison Bliss is another quick sweet and sassy read. This features Max, the instigator friend of the heroes and heroines of the last two books, and Jessa, a chef who runs her own food truck. The story is that Max is pretty steamed that the new food truck is taking business away from his favorite mom and pop restaurant that he likes and goes to. So, he decided to play a pretty mean trick on the bull-headed owner which ends up biting him in the rear when the sassy and sexy owner happens to be a woman. I won’t say what Max did but the attraction between Jessa and Max is immediate and the chemistry is intense. Their playful banter and witty talks are so cute; plus their sexy love scenes are so steamy, it will have you standing outside in below temps to cool off, that is how hot the scenes are between them. The thing is, when Jessa finds out what Max did, will she be willing to forgive and forgot, let bygones be bygones or will their chance at HEA be gone like smoke?
The push and pull between Max and Jessa is something that Ms. Bliss does well, and how she writes strong, sweet and sexy heroines who are proud of their voluptuous bodies. She writes about women who go thru a lot but in the end, come out stronger on the other side. Max is sort of an idiot but he redeems himself and Jessa makes him work for it-- the struggle and the end result is worth it all!!

My Rating: 4.7 stars *****

Received in exchange for a honest review.

This was fun. i love all the body positivity from the women. They owned their bodies and who they are and rocked it as well. Jessa especially. She was smart, funny, sassy, sweet and generous. Her heart was gold and she was just so sweet. She knew that it was you who made you and not the outside trappings.

Max was once a boy who was bullied for his weight. He never forgot that and was always that little boy on the inside. He was determined to change and he did only that was a change that once made he continued to do for himself and not because of how he looked on the outside. He felt good about himself with the discipline and that was why he continued it that and the fear that was still inside him from that little boy he was once. He was a mischievous guy who didn’t do things to hurt others but to give them a jolt. He is a good person just afraid to let others get to know him because of fear they will laugh at him like those in his childhood did. When you see him and know him as we get snippets throughout the book you see a sweet, kind, fun guy who has been hurt in the past and is scared of losing those that have been good to him.

He started the book wanting to help his friend who has done so much for him. He did something he normally wouldn’t but pops meant alot to him. Only this time it went further and he began to like Jessa. They got to know one another and fall in love. this muddled things for Max and he was conflicted. He messed up and was hard pressed to figure out how to fix things. To fix what is broken first one must look to fix themselves and than they can do what is needed to get the person you love back.

The book is fun and flirty. There are serious moments and they tug at your heart. As does the banter and characters. They are all friends and help one another. Even Pops is family. We see love shine through in all the couples and we see the guys show the women that they don’t care about the outside of a person but what is on the inside. The writing is flirty and fun. We get some sizzling moments, some fun moments and sweet moments like the farmer’s market. We also get some very intimate moments that show the characters vulnerability and the type of people those around them are when that occurs. Max and Jessa are especially intimate with each other. Max at the end exposes himself in a way that has you cry even after he was an idiot. The chemistry between Max and Jessa is one that shines through from the beginning. The story is one of a journey to accepting yourself, finding love and becoming vulnerability to the one we love so they can be your strength and there for you when needed. It shows love in all its aspects and Max and Jessa’s journey to forever is one filled with self discovery, fun moments, intimate moments and a adventure that puts a smile on the reader’s face especially at the end..

Marie's Tempting Reads ARC Review:

More To Love...the third INCREDIBLE story in Alison Bliss's popular Perfect Fit series is SOOOOOO my new favorite RomCom! Perfectly funny, perfectly sexy, and perfectly heartfelt, this story had it all! I LOVED LOVED LOVED Jessa and Max. I really liked how we not only get our curvy girl with attitude, sass, and beauty, we get a hero who has his own set of issues with food and weight. It made for such a great twist.

The push and pull between Max and Jessa kept the heat to a simmering boil and had me entertained. And the scorching heat was enough to make me feel oh so hot. The one thing that seems to stick out most for me with Alison Bliss and her Perfect Fit stories, is the way she makes you feel proud to be a curvy woman, and makes you feel like us curvy girls can get that sexy man. I think out of her Perfect Fit series, I believe More To Love would be a FABULOUS and IRRESISTIBLE movie! More To Love deserves an award and many shout outs! I can't recommend this book enough.

More To Love gets a STEAMY AND WILL MAKE YOU GRIN, CRY, AND SIGH FIVE SHOOTING STARS!

Another amazing book by Mrs. Bliss. I have been waiting very impatiently for this one.

Max and Jessa were fun to read. I adore Jessa. She is someone I would love to meet and hang out with. She has her insecurities like every female but she doesn’t let it run her life. She is quirky, upbeat and just seems like someone who would be fun to be around. She is running a successful food truck with a dream of opening her own restaurant someday.

Max is someone I had to grow to love. I was very glad that this book allowed us to see what was inside his head so you knew that his intentions were good however misplaced they were. There were many times in the book I kept saying to myself “just tell her or come clean because this is going to get ugly.”

These two were fun to read and they complemented each other very well. However, you knew that it was just a matter of time before everything came out. When it did, my heart broke for Jessa and it did for Max also but yet I kept thinking I told you so.

Without giving away any spoilers, I will say I really liked the twist at the end especially how it impacted Max and Logan given their shaky friendship.

I enjoyed this story but not as much as the other two books in the series. I liked the idea of a hero with food/body issues who falls for a curvy girl who enjoys food and loves her body just as it is. However, I feel like there wasn’t enough time spent on that issue because of the health inspector deception.

I actually thought that Max’s reasoning for pretending in the first place was weak. I was also confused why he had to keep the “special” a secret from every one. Why would he have to hide his healthy eating habits? It’s not like he’d have to explain his past with them. They knew he worked out and was healthy so I’m a little perplexed why he seemed to go to so much trouble to hide it. Then, for all the trouble he seemed to go through with hiding it, it never really felt like there was a resolution to how he would deal with his relationship with food AND his relationship with Jessa. Especially because he so often commented on her eating habits and how he didn’t originally hit on Valerie and Leah because they ran a bakery and he couldn’t put himself in that situation.

I like the story but I do admit that I had higher hopes for Max’s story and wish that the focus of the story had gone in a different direction.

This is book #3, in the A Perfect Fit series. This book can be read as a standalone novel. For reader understanding of the series, and to avoid spoilers, I recommend reading in order.

Max pretends to be something he is not in order to get his way, and solve a problem for a friend. Only he has no intention of falling for the woman he lies to. How to fix it once he realizes the inevitable?

Jessica cannot believe there are so many people who love her efforts. Coming to this new town and being accepted is a big deal in her life. To find a man who gets her was just plain unexpected. When the truth comes out, can she forgive a well meaning man?

This was a sweet and sexy installment to this great series. The characters have great banter, heat, and sexy times. I love how the challenge of chasing the girl is so very prominent in this story. You really feel the struggle and the end result is so worth it!
