This is previous cover/title edition for Outcast of Empire, ASIN B072F61WVW

It is not me, but the world that is mad.

Town of Lien. Planet Xerl. Fringe Worlds. Imperial Space.

The Imperial Council has ruled much of the galaxy for millennia, maintaining power through a persuasive and draconian faith. Those who do not serve the empire and its unwavering doctrine, are punished.

Re’lien, the Devil Child, is one of these so-called heretics. She is cursed by her people and tortured, but is denied death. Punished for heresy that she did not commit, Re’lien has become accustomed to her lot – until she is met by a stranger that shows her kindness.

The Devil Child is sick of being a scapegoat and sick of being beaten. She wants to be free of her oppression. But more importantly, she wants vengeance.

I loved Fall of Zona Nox and am interested to see how Re'lien, the main character of Devil Child, will fit into the wider series. A very creative sci-fi world from an alien perspective. I'm looking forward to the sequel.

This was another excellent story in the Warpmancer universe. It is shorter than its siblings, but just as good. It is full of action and intrigue, violence and fear. It has brought another character to life as two were ended. Grab the series and find out which was which. I recommend this novel and series to any Space Opera fan.

I normally do not read science fiction, but the title grabbed my eye. It should have been made a novel and given more detail and would have been more enjoyable. The story takes place on a growing planet, one that grows food for other planets. The planet is overseen by a god that ensures the food will grow, but everything done is just to make him look better to the gods ruling other planets. The devil child is Re, who is set out in the square to be beaten 8 hours a day, which is how long their is daylight. She is the daughter of the man who runs the planet for the god. She is beaten because her sister was evil, causing all the crops to wither and die. The god said her sister was to die and Re was to be punished for the rest of her life, but not allowed to be killed.
