What does it take for a woman to get over her teenage pranks and the man she loved then? The man who is the father of her baby? When Mara Tyler returns to Slippery Rock, she's about to find out, because she's finally decided that James Calhoun, Deputy Sheriff, needs to know, deserves to know. But how exactly to tell him? She's only there to establish the kind of security the grocery store needs. At least that's the excuse she's given everyone. But she also wants to touch base with her grandmothe ...more

Much better than the 1st book in the series but I felt despite them confessing to be best friends, I didn't feel that between them and how could they have gone on in a casual hook-up type relationship for three years?

Mara and James' story, the second in the Slippery Rock series, is a sweet second chance/secret baby romance. I liked James a lot, which isn't surprising since I liked him in the first book ( Famous in a Small Town ) too, as Collin's best friend. Here we see him in more detail, learn of his less-than-pristine teenage past, and his secret relationship with the town rebel and Collin's little sister Mara, who hasn't been back in town for more than two years. Now he's running for sheriff, a position ...more

From friends to lovers, to strangers, & then bam parents..... Secrets always have a way of revealing themselves eventually. Small towns often have small minded individuals whom don't want to let go of the past. These individuals often continue to try to drag one's name through the mud more often than not. The small town of Slippery Rock is no different.

Mara was a bit of a rebel. She was only trying to prove herself to be one of the boys. Convinced one prank after another she would one day b

Star-crossed lovers, town secrets and a surprise baby … just a few of the things that make this such a fun read! A visit to Slippery Rock is always satisfying!

Known for the mischief she used to cause as a teenager, Mara Tyler wasn’t sure she would ever return home to Slippery Rock, Missouri, but times have changed and it’s time. It’s time to make face the town, her family and James Calhoun. She has a baby that it’s past time she told people about … especially his father!

James always did have a h

One of those... "why did I just read that" moments. I enjoy a good beach read. Who doesn't?

This is not that.

Secret baby, childhood friends to lovers, small town tropes, oh my. Sign me up. Not to mention the secret that is between them that the town still blames Mara squarely for. This book has it all for me. Plus, it has smexy times and what an opening to a book. 🙂 Ms. Knight shook up the mold when she wrote Mara and James. One of the things in the book that keeps resounding with me is the way the town just hates Mara. I really felt bad for her. That’s where the secret comes into play and they way its ...more

This is book #2 in the Slippery Rock series.  I have not read book #1, but I plan to.

Mara Tyler has been having a steamy affair with James Calhoun, who is the acting Sheriff in her hometown.  She has a big secret to tell James, but she is afraid that it could cost him the election.  Not only does she have to tell James about his son, Zeke, but also her own family.

Another favorite type of theme I love is when a woman gets pregnant and then has to tell the father.  Mara needs time to deal with
