I loved this meaningful and well-written story! The prologue had me on the edge of the sofa, impatiently clicking to the next page. Then it was back to 1960’s New Zealand, and I fell in love with Jack from the start, wanting him to succeed when he first talked to Evie’s father, and then even later on forgiving him for the choices he made. While the story (after the prologue!) starts at a gentle pace, it was great to have the scene set, and I loved hearing the men listen to the races in the pub – ...more

A thought provoking read, The Nam Legacy took me back to the sixties and seventies with its warm stroll down memory lane. A time when mothers would remodel dresses in time for the Saturday night dance and when summer weekends were lived on the beach, I felt immersed in scene after scene. From eating fish and chips out of paper, drinking Waikato beer, and the guys calling the girls 'birds', the author did a great job of taking you back to that era in small town New Zealand.

I loved the forever-loy

An epic story about the aftermath of war in Vietnam and the choices that were made before and after. The book keeps you enthralled and you constantly are rooting for the happy ever after.

I really enjoyed this story! It took me to the 60s, a time I would have loved to experience. I could hear my grandparents in some of the characters and it certainly felt real. I liked that the author had a point to make and was able to express this in a very genuine and heartfelt way. I was left feeling a strong connection with the main characters... and I wasn't quite ready for it to end. This is a beautiful, complicated love story about two young kiwis, well worth a read!

The Nam Legacy is one of those books that you can’t put down – you are simply hooked within the first chapter.
It’s a beautifully written, evocative story that draws you deep into the lives of the two main characters, as if walking alongside them unseen, sharing their highs and lows, eager to see if love will triumph against the nightmare of war and its after effect.
Simply written but far from simplistic, this story cleverly and expertly transports you from small town New Zealand and the Kiwi id

An excellent read

This is an entertaining read about a dark time in our history. The rights and wrongs of the Vietnam war have been hotly debated, what has not been in doubt is the effects of this war on the men who fought there. Carole Brunger brings to life the difficulty the men faced on their return from the battlefields, reviled and misunderstood by their peers at home, these men suffered mightily. This is a poignant story of one man's struggles with the aftermath of serving his country in t

Unfortnately I couldn't love this, although I wanted to. I found the prose leaden, the characters were walking cliches, and the premise unoriginal.

Wonderful read.

You know a book is good when you read it one day and hours later your still thinking about the characters. Great read.

As per the blurb - The Nam Legacy is an epic love story set during the 60's and 70's.

Being a kiwi gal myself, well acquainted with the lower North Island, Foxton, Levin, and Palmerston North. The home setting was a bonus for me. The story of Nam was well researched, authentic, and gut wrenching.

I feel I need to issue a trigger warning both for cheating and suicide. While both of those things were difficult to read, they weren't thrown in for shock factor. Yes, they were shocking but, again, auth

The Nam Legacy takes you back to a time when life was far different from today. Set in the 60s and 70s in small town New Zealand, the book centres around Jack Coles, a young man growing up on his father's farm. After his brother joins the army and goes away to fight in Vietnam, Jack decides to follow in his footsteps and enlist.
Nothing back home could prepare him for what he faced there, and the people he encounters end up changing his life forever. After he returns to New Zealand he tries to ge

This is the best book I have read for ages. I simply could not put it down...even becoming a little resentful when I had to do some task such as help with kai or kids! I found myself not only enjoying the romance aspect but relating to the dark side of war stress and how it affected people in my own family...I have found myself relating this incredible story to lots of friends. If it is the only one you rad this month or even year the do it! The author writes in a style that helps you to feel th ...more

New Zealand author Carole Brungar has written a powerful story, starting just before the Vietnam war and continuing through the war; we see the impact the war has on everyday people and their loved ones. The people in this story had hopes and dreams, some they were able to follow and some got derailed. Evie and Jack were a great couple and Terry was the sort of friend anyone could ask for. The scenes in Vietnam were incredibly realistic and I could see myself there in the midst of things with Ja ...more

The Nam Legacy is a book you can’t put down. Carole you have written an amazing book that takes us from Foxton Beach New Zealand, to the jungles of Vietnam. I felt as if I was on the journey with Jack. An emotional read at times. If you haven’t read this book, it’s a must read for 2019, as is the second book The Nam Shadow. Well done Carole Brungar.
