LOVED IT!
I think this is one of Bev's funniest books. Reagan is hilarious and I love the way Bev gave her funny internal monologues even when Reagan decided to bite her tongue. Dr. Lee was very sweet. A wonderful new husband and a great father to his adorable daughter Anna. All of Bev's books are on my keeper shelf, but this hops to the top of my insta-recommend list.

Honestly, any book where the heroine semi accidentally shoots the hero and then tells him off for not accepting her apology with sufficient grace is a winner with me. A glorious read. Regan is a life-enhancing heroine who is unembarrassed, sexual, independent, kind, happy to fall in love but never needy. She's marvellous, and it's a joy to see her remake the grumpy widower Colt and his bullied daughter, while also teaching him to let go his damn fool ideas about women. I glommed this in a sittin ...more

After all, how many men met their prospective brides via a bullet from her Winchester?
So much fun!!

Dr. Colton Lee's mail-order bride turns out to be so much more than their correspondence implied. Regan Carmichael may be well-educated and capable of running a household, but she's also out-spoken and a crack-shot. Their relationship starts off with a real BANG! when she accidentally shoots him, thinking he's part of a gang of stagecoach robbers.

I loved the way the author played the

My first Beverly Jenkins! And it was goooooood. Mail order bride (MORE OF THESE, PLEASE) and low key romance in which they COMMUNICATED. Good kid writing.

The external conflict was maybe a bit much, but I don't caaaaare. So much better than stupid relationship conflict.

I have a feeling I will never shut up about my love for this book.

First of all, let me say that TEMPEST is definitely one of my favorites of this year even though this year is barely starting, I just know this book is going to be there until the end. It's just so goooood.

Ms. Beverly Jenkins is an outstanding author and I am so happy that I keep and will continue to read her books. Her books are filled with so much care and love you can feel it in the pages, in the words, in the way she treats t

I was pleasantly surprised with Tempest. Tempest is book 3 in Beverly Jenkins Old West Series but can be enjoyed as a standalone. This book held my interested from the start and I thought the author did a great job with the suspense, romance and the challenge of being a black woman in the late 1800's.

Regina is smart, feisty and hopeful that her intended would fall in love with her. I liked her from the beginning. She immediately took charge of any situation. I found her to be a refresh

Bravo Beverly Jenkins for this third installment! Another excellent addition to the Old West series.

We met adventurous romantic Regan Carmichael in book 2, Breathless. She answered an advertisement for a mail-order bride to a widower with a 6yr old daughter who resides in the Wyoming Territory. So Regan moved from the Arizona Territory in hopes of finding love and a family of her own.

Dr. Colton Lee was shocked when he met Regan because he was expecting a more conventional woman, not one who coul

This was cute. I never thought I'd say that about A Bev Jenkins book. I always know that she writes a great story and always drops some knowledge of African American history, but "cute" is not a way I'd characterize her generally.

But yeah, this had some nice wit and Regan, the heroine, was the MVP. I love a good heroine -- smart, no bullshit and root worthy.

Good book.

Tempest is the third in Beverly Jenkins Old West series, I hadn't read the first two, however it stands well by itself, although while reading it I decided I wanted to read the previous two and get to know the relatives belonging to Regan.

Regan is a mail order bride - a fun trope for sure. However what I liked about Regan is that she is no quiet, stand back kind of woman. She knows how to front up, speak her mind while looking you in the eye. Right from the get go, when we meet her in the stage

Tempest is the third and final book in the Old West trilogy that Beverly Jenkins has brought to us. I will admit I was a bit nervous about this one, because I did struggle a bit with book two (probably me more than anything else) especially since there is a book from this author I haven't loved. This story is a bit different and boy I had a blast with the trope that is introduced. There is something about "Mail Order Bride" themes in wester

Tempest was my first time reading Beverly Jenkins (I KNOW OKAY?!) but it certainly won’t be my last. I see why she’s a powerhouse in the genre and beloved by many.

I loved Regan’s character – and most of the women in this book, for that matter. Regan did not take shit from anyone, least of all her new husband. When he would tell her that a good woman doesn’t do this or that (including things like enjoying sex!) she’d politely tell him to basically go fuck himself and she was going to do what she

Not disappointed. Not even a little bit. I love when Beverly Jenkins open the doors to a new venture back in time. This time we are served a sensual journey to love in the wilds of Wyoming. We have a beautiful little girl in need of love from a woman that understands her. We have a girl that has grown to a woman before our eyes (through the series) and wants love. What she finds does not do it for her? Regan is strong and determined to make her own happily love ever after. Then we have a man tha ...more

Ms. Bev’s books are like a warm hug. If you want to read about good people being good to each other, look no further. I love how she incorporates real (and sometimes difficult) history into her stories, and she frequently features not just a token POC character, but a full cast of them. In Tempest, Regan Carmichael arrives in Wyoming Territory as a mail order bride for Dr. Colton Lee, whose first wife died in childbirth. He wants his daughter Anna to grow up with a mother so he decides to remarr ...more

Romance set in.. the old west... or something. New frontier? I don't know. Anyway, a woman answers an ad to be a mail order bride, expecting everything to be great and adventurous. Then it is. Then her husband doesn't love that she can take care of herself and also is interested in bedroom activities. Then he does. Unfortunately, all the sexy bits are mostly alluded to and there are no parts with actual words like "shaft." But "breasts" shows up a couple of time.

Well worth a fun, quick read. I m

Tempest is the third and final book of the Old West trilogy. Imagine my surprise when I started reading that time had fast forwarded 12 years and Regan and Portia were now grown women. I read the first book in the series, Forbidden, and absolutely loved it. I haven’t read book 2, Breathless, which is Portia’s story, but I wasn’t lost while reading Tempest.

Regan is a feisty heroine who is capable of taking care of herself. She’s mouthy. She’s not afraid to use a gun and she wears denims. This wha

Beverly Jenkins, you have done it again! A solid and enjoyable read from start to finish, where readers can expect her brilliantly written signature style of interweaving lesser-known historical facts and passionate romance with memorable and sweet characters! Regan Carmichael is eagerly anticipating meeting he

I admit that I'm not really a romance reader, but I picked this up for Book Riot's Read Harder 2019 challenge (prompt: read a historical romance written by an author of color), chosen because Beverly Jenkins is a tried-and-true author of the genre with many devoted fans. The story of Regan, a headstrong black woman who moved to Wyoming to marry doctor Colton Lee, a widower who put ads in the papers for a wife and mother to his 5-year-old Anna, is apparently the third in her Old West series, but ...more

I am still speechless with how much I LOVED this book from start to finish! Regan is this sassy, independent black woman in the late 1800's or so, looking for a new adventure by answering an ad for a wife. Regan during the journey to Wyoming her stagecoach is attacked by bandits and she uses her skills with a gun to survive. But during that survival shootout she also happens to shoot her fiancée by mistake. Colton is the town doctor and Regan's fiancée; he thought he was ge

I think this might actually be my favorite in the series?!

And that's mostly because

I

LOVE

REGAN!!!!

She is one of my favorite FMC in a book I've read this year. From accidentally shooting Colt when she thinks he's an outlaw to her humor to how she tackles everything thrown at her, I just love her on every level.

Colt grew on me. At first, he very much has this "here's what a 'good woman' does" attitude, but I thought the development of his relationship with Regan in their MOC

I had been in a real romance funk, with all of my usual authors disappointing me. Beverly Jenkins is just what I needed. The heroine is spunky and made me laugh out loud more than once, and the Old West setting, with dips into actual historical events created an interesting backdrop for this sweet story. The only sort of bummer is that the humor of the first half of the book evaporated completely with some very serious themes (kidnapping, shooting, etc.), but while I missed the humor, I don't se ...more

I blew through Tempest, staying up far too late to read "just one more chapter." Regan's story concludes the story of Eddy and Rhine's family (earlier books are Forbidden - - which is an all time fave--and Breathless, which I somehow missed and will be reading next). Regan has come to town as a mail order bride, and Colton Lee isn't so sure this match will suit after she (accidentally!) shoots him. But they come together in passion and readers will love how Regan draws her new stepdaughter out o ...more

As a fan of the previous two books in Beverly Jenkins’s Old West series, I have been looking forward to Regan’s book so much. I am happy to report that it did not disappoint.

Tempest was an excellent comfort read. The angst level is low and the romance is sweet. The first chapter, when Regan and Colt meet, had me laughing out loud repeatedly.

Shooting your future husband may not be the best way to start off a mail-order bride marriage, but Regan Fontaine finds herself with high hopes after finally meeting the handsome doctor she's supposed to wed, regardless of the bullet she put in his shoulder. Colt wasn't expecting the denim wearing, rifle-toting, wealthy heiress he only knew from letters, but even he with his jaded heart starts to feel a glimmer of hope. But, will their new marriage stand up to the trials and tribulations of a sm ...more
