I will be the first to admit that I’m not a fan of sci-fi books but when I read the blurb to this one and the fact it’s also a cosy crime and funny, I just had to give it a go. I am so glad I did! I loved it from start to finish – I am so glad that this is the start of the series as I can’t wait to see what adventures lie in store for Andi and Cy amongst others.

Andorra Pett and her gay best friend Cy have left Earth and started a new life on a mining station near to Saturn. She buys an abandoned

I'm not usually a cozy mystery fan because it always drives me crazy when people don't report crimes to the police and decide to investigate themselves.  I decided to give this one a try though because of the twist on the genre.  This cafe owner who is investigating a crime is living on a space station.

Andorra and her friend Cyril moved to a space station near Saturn.  It is there to support mining in the rings of Saturn.  The previous owner of the cafe left suddenly.  When cleaning the cafe to

Andorra and Cyril, (Andi & Cy) decide to relocate to a mining station. The station is responsible for mining the rocks that make up the rings of Saturn, it has the basics on site that the inhabitants need. Andi and Cy take over the abandoned “ucky Strike Cafe” (the ‘L’ fell off ). It’s when they start checking round the premises that they realise it holds a secret, too late to back out now as their customers are arriving.

Oh this is a wonderful cosy mystery. Andi and Cy have a brilliant dynam

I was literally bouncing in my chair when I was offered the chance to read Andorra Pett and the Oort Cloud Cafe. I mean, a novel about a feisty woman opening a cafe in a mining station in the rings of Saturn? As someone whose gateway into Science Fiction began with A Wrinkle in Time and continued with The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, this sounded like something I would really enjoy. Andorra

And I did.

Richard Dee has given us a tale that has everything - humor, suspense, a strong but struggli

Andi has landed on a mining station a week away from Mars. She takes on the “ucky strike cafe” (the “L” fell off) - its previous owner having disappeared leaving outstanding debts. Her business partner Cy is right behind her. Much to her surprise they find the previous guy in the freezer - in a body bag. Being on a different planet means there are rules about refuse and hence they decide to leave him there having little choice in the matter. Andi wants to find out more about a secret book that h ...more

I wouldn't consider myself a sci fi fan, but I so enjoyed this book maybe I am? The setting is clever and unusual which gave a really fresh feel to the story. There is also a well crafted crime mystery and some excellent characters - some of whom I hope will appear again in further adventures. The title alone is intriguing and the Andorra is a wonderful creation.

I kept seeing this book as a series starter for another of those Star Trek TV franchises, or rather something just like it, in the same vein. Like with the various Star Trek TV series over the decades and their assorted spin-offs, I felt this tale hailed from the days of positive sci-fi, in an all’s well that ends well sense of the word. The story definitely qualifies as a thriller, with our heroes exposed to no shortage of dangers at every turn for which they are entirely ill-equipped to handle ...more

Andorra Pett (Andi) is leaving her old life behind, that includes her cheating ex and the planet Earth! Only her best friend Cy is allowed to tag along for her new adventures. This futuristic cozy mystery is set on a space station, where one might expect clear-headed, logical-thinking scientists to run the show. Unfortunately, on this space station (which is really a mining station set up to harvest rocks orbiting Saturn) miners, farmers, single ladies and not-so-single ladies live ou

What's better than reading a crime-filled drama? A crime-filled drama...in space!

Jokes aside, Andorra Pett and her best friend Cyril take a giant leap to change their lives. By giant leap, I mean they pack up and go to a space station. Near Saturn. Away from the desolation of their romantic lives, the Oort Cloud Cafe might be the answer. It is, only not in the ways they expect.

For crime fiction, this had a much lighter tone than I ever expected. It fit in very well with the narrative. The main

I will admit that the cartoon-style cover of the book appealed to me, as did the title. They say don’t judge a book by its cover, but I did just that.

Unfortunately, the story itself left me feeling a bit… cold, and I’m not really sure I can say why, exactly.

The science was great, and the descriptions were entertaining, but overall, I felt that the story lacked the depths it could have had, had the author delved into character development a bit more.

To be fair, a story written in first person mak

I was so intrigued when I saw the description for this book along with seeing the fabulous cover. It was such an easy decision to pick up this book and I'm so glad that I did.

I really enjoyed this story and this is mainly down to the fact that this story had a little bit of everything to keep me interested. It definitely had a dash of cosy crime/mystery about it as Andorra (Andi) decides to do a little bit of investigating after making a discovery in her new business venture. Even though it is s

Andorra Pett and her friend Cyril have packed everything up and decided to take over the abandoned restaurant Oort Cloud Café. But when they start cleaning everything they discover the missing prior owner in the freezer. But it seems their happy little café is going to be quite busy. It seems a local mob boss, that has a restaurant across from Andi and Cy. He is determined to be in control of everything, especially a little black book that the former café owner was supposed to have. It’s up to A ...more

If you’re a fan of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and Agatha Christie style murder mysteries, this novel has it all. Lovable characters and light humour make this a very enjoyable read, not so much ‘science fiction’ but more of a fun filled adventure set in space.

When Andorra Pett and her friend, Cy, lease a café on a mining station around Saturn they never imagined they would find the previous owner’s body in the freezer. Excitement kicks when the café starts to attract customers, not to men

Andorra Pett and her friend Cy have fled Earth for a mining colony in orbit around Saturn after they both had bad breakups with their boyfriends. Andi, who ran a dress shop on Earth, has bought a bar, the Lucky Strike, which she plans to rename The Oort Cloud Cafe.

Unfortunately, on their first day, they find the body of Mike, the previous owner, who is supposed to have left the station suddenly after alcohol was banned, in one of the bar's two freezers.

This is the first book of Richard’s I have read and I have now added all of his other ones to my list for future reading.

The book itself is an interesting one as it is an easy-reading sci-fi/mystery book with more than a hint of comedic moments in it.

The two main characters in the book are Andorra (Andi) and her best friend Cyril who have taken over the derelict cafe in the title.

I feel that all of the characters in the book are believable and have really in-depth back stories, where applicable.

Utterly fantastic story!!! This has the rare, magical ability to transport you into the story, making you a part of it instead of just reading it from afar. I loved how it was brought to life, making it feel like it was real, down to the clang of the metal doors, the scrape of boots on metal work, and the general almost derelict feel of it in places. It was at times hilarious, then turned off serious, then back to hilarious, at the drop of a hat! The details of the story were superb, when the ac ...more

A Return To Space

I hadn't read a science fiction book in years and I was so glad I decided to read this one.
Great characters and a good story. The descriptions of the space station and how it all worked were clever, I was able to 'see' the place.
I also enjoyed the laugh out loud humour in the book and the feisty female lead.

I received this is exchange for an honest review.

What a fun read!

Firstly I want to say that even if you don’t like Sci-Fi, don’t let that put you off giving this a go. It very much has the feel of a contemporary novel, they just happen to live on a mining station in space rather than on a street on Earth.

In this novel, we follow a cast of relatable characters as they try and go about their lives after discovering a secret in the freezer of a run down cafe. This is exactly what you want from a c
