I've given this a D at AAR.

When one reads a lot of books, one learns to take book blurbs with a pinch of salt.  Those that give a basic outline of the plot are fine, but those that proudly proclaim how ‘exciting’, or ‘unforgettable’ or ‘unique’ a story is always see me raising a sceptical eyebrow and thinking, ‘yeah, right.’  Or wrong.  As is the case here.  The cover copy of new-to-me author Sara Portman’s The Chase promised a ‘thrilling romance’, but I think whoever wrote that must have lost t

The Chase is the third book in the Brides of Beadwell series by Sara Portman. It can easily be read as a stand-alone story.

Juliana Crawford has left her home and her cruel, violent father with it. She is 25 and has come into a small inheritance which she plans to use to get far away from her father where he will never find her. He will chase after her, not out of love, but because he wants her money and to use her as a general dogsbody. Before she can get her inheritance though Juliana has to ma

Chance and circumstance!

'A wooden spoon for courage'. An uncommon choice. But then Juliana Crawford is not by any stretch of the imagination ordinary. Juliana is running from a desperate situation. She is running to a possible future. Stranded at an inn, in a highly unorthodox move, she approaches an elderly gentleman to request a place in his coach.
Michael Roseyear (illegitimate son of an earl) is in pain from being confined to a carriage. His leg is hurting and he's bored. He needs distraction

Sara is on my pile of favorite authors. I am looking for her books all the time. Her books are deep stories with her people. Juliana had a horrid father and she has to leave home for London to get her birthday money. She begs Michael to take her to lawyers in London. Oops, not! The carriage crashes on purpose. She runs away and Gelert, a wolfhound, and two men were to catch her and go back to her father! Gelert saved her and she gets to her lawyers. Michael is a backyard and his father is always ...more

Yet another great story by Sara Portman. I am sad to have read the last in this series but hope this author has more coming soon. She will be going on my auto-buy list. Her books give us great plots, interesting characters and a little something out of the typical historical romance. She pulls you right into the book and you don't want to leave. I had a few tired mornings in a row because I had stayed up too late with just 'one more chapter'! So hard to put these books down!

Juliana is on the run from her abusive father. She possesses a photographic memory. She found a letter when she was around 12 that mentioned an inheritance when she reached her majority (25). This is the main reason she runs when she does. She sees Michael and asks him (mainly because of her cane and limp) for help in getting to London.
Michael is on his way to London to answer his father's summons. His father has decided it is time for Michael to get married. His bride has been picked out.

I have loved all of Sara Portman’s series “Brides of Beadwell” and from the first chapter, I found myself reflecting on the previous books, trying to pick on the subtle links to the characters in “The Chase”. Juliana Crawford is trying to escape her abusive father and convinces Michael Rosevear, to help her reach London. Michael is the illegitimate son of the Marquess of Rosevear, who has summoned him to London, to fulfil his duty to the family. However, the journey is destined to throw the coup ...more

This is now my 17 out of 20 Top Reads for 2017! Loved the traumatized Julianna, who must flee her home, how to get to London? Michael, in pain, from his war wound, traveling in his father's, the Marquess's beautiful carriage, from York, to London. It's more pain than it's worth!
However, Julianna, waiting all day, for someone she can get a ride with, believes that she has finally found the right person, he is obviously old, he is stopped over, and has a walking cane! The problem is, he seems to

Juliana Crawford ran from her abusive father. She needed to get her inheritance so she could live independent, but she needed a ride to London. Michael Rosevear was sent to Rose Hall by his father. His father had sent for him, he wanted Michael to marry, even though he was a bastard.
The descriptions were very good and helped you feel part of the story. The characters, at least some of them, were warm, kind and Caring. She approached Michael for a ride at an inn. The plot has so many strings and

Equal parts suspense and drama, The Chase is a slow-burn romance that has the reader turning page after page eager to find out what happens next!

He has finally been summoned to his father's London home to marry a wealthy cit's daughter in order to insert further funds into the family coffers. This was a quick read that gave the reader a sweet romance and a happy ever after to dream about! I enjoyed the mystery of why the heroine was in the situation she found herself, and Sara Portman did a great job keeping me on the edge of my seat trying to figure it out. Each time I thought I knew what happened, she would throw in another clue that would have me spinning off in another direction entirely. This was a cute, stand alone story that I believe will be enjoyed by those who enjoy historical romances with strong characters.

I enjoyed both of these characters, even if there were times I wanted to smack them. Julianna was head-strong, although emotionally scarred by the acts of her cruel father. While I found it admirable that she set off alone to claim her inheritance and start a life of her own, it was obvious that she had no idea how the world works. Especially towards women during that

I thoroughly enjoy Ms. Portman's books and "The Chase" does not disappoint. Michael Rosevear was born on the wrong side of the blanket and even though he is a recognized son, he is not close to his father. He manages a distant estate in Yorkshire, but must make his way to London when he is summoned by his father who has found a bride for him. If Michael wants the estate to finally be his, he must do as he is told. Juliana Crawford is running away from an abusive father and begs a ride to London ...more

Even though he’s a bastard born son he has a duty to his father. On the way to London he meets Juliana who gets him to give her a lift in his coach. The Chase by Sara Portman is the third book in The Brides of Beadwell series and my absolute favourite out of them all! I was completely hooked right from the beginning. I devoured this book! Michael and Juliana are two of the most intriguing characters! I instantly fell in love with them. The story is engaging and full of emotion and I was swept up into it all! This is a beautifully written, all consuming story. I absolutely loved it!!

Michael and Juliana meet when Juliana is fleeing from her home of Beadwell, and trying to reach London. Without giving too much away, the journey is rather adventurous and makes both the MCs question their chosen paths. There is drama aplenty and a beautiful love blooms for these two. A truly enjoyable book.

I must say I loved this one more than the first 2 books. I loved the mystery that was there during Michael and Juliana’s first introduction. I loved how the pace was quick and that even when it should have seemed impossible for them to fall in love at such a short time, they were still grounded in reality and yes they did fall in love.

Michael’s unexplained protectiveness of Juliana was beautiful and it was also beautiful how Sara Portman described Juliana’s innate fear yet at how she appeared a
