I first met Jennifer C. Wilson over a year ago at the writers' inspiration the is The Swanwick Writers' Summer School. Although she was already a published author, she is such an open, friendly person who works to nurture aspiring authors. Itis hard to remember that Jeniifer is a marine biologist by training, who developed an equal passion for history whilst following the life of Mary, Queen of Scots on while on family holidays as a child.

Jennifer’s interest in creative writing ever since she

Knowing the Royal Mile in Edinburgh reasonably well, the next time I walk down it I’m pretty sure to be looking over my shoulder for all of Queen Mary’s ghostly retinue! Like Book 1 of the series, this well written novel is jam packed full of historical characters though they are now conducting ‘afterlife existences’- some in a different way from their mortal ones had been. An example would be the relationship of James V to Mary, Queen of Scots. The hierarchical strata, separating royalty from ...more
I liked this book - a really good idea for a ghost story set in Edinburgh. The ghost of Mary Queen of Scots comes to stay at Edinburgh Castle for the summer festival and stays for new year celebrations. The story also includes the ghosts of her father James V, her mother Mary of Guise and her fathers first wife Madeleine de Valois. Also featuring in the story are Lady Glamis, Lord Darnley, David Rizzio, and the Edinburgh ghosts - the Covenanters and the High Street piper boy. A number of other ...more

I don't think I'll walk down Edinburgh's Royal Mile again without looking over my shoulder for the myriad of ghosts that haunt the place - from Mary Stuart to Greyfriars Bobby and the ill-disciplined covenanters. What I love about Ms Wilson's books is that the main characters are ghosts yet the living are like phantoms living their lives out around those who are dead. There's plenty in this book to please the history buff while entertaining those who just want an enjoyable - and often humorous ...more

Another excellent ghost story

Join Mary, Queen of Scots and the other ghosts of Edinburgh Castle as they Enjoy all the celebrations and festivals that the wonderful city of Edinburgh holds, I have the first book in the series and love it and this is just as good and make me smile just as much, another brilliant read I can't wait for the next one.

Another great book, full of historical figures brought back to life. This time, the story is set in Scotland's Royal Mile, with all the court intrigues still continuing to this day. There is a lovely side story about the piper boy lost in the tunnels beneath Edinburgh. I enjoyed this book as much as the first, and now look forward to reading the third in the series!

Review - I am thoroughly enjoying this series. This is the second one I've read after Kindred Spirits: Tower of London. I preferred Tower of London, maybe just because it focused around Richard III and Anne Boleyn, two of my favourite historical figures. However, this one about Mary Queen of Scots and Lord Darnley was equally fascinating, though Mary didn't come across entirely as I expected her to. It was unexpected and took me a while to get used to it, but I did love her relationship with the ...more
