Let me start by saying I am not a mystery fan. With that said, I found this novel to be a page turner and a page burner. Mr. Levin's writing is fluid, visceral and downright moving. The author keeps the story rolling with an almost cinematic pace that gives the reader short, concise chapters that moves the scenes along. There are numerous twists and turns, however these twists are void of superfluous excessthat can be a distraction to the reader.
One thing this mystery novel has that is surprisi

As most people that follow me know that YA Paranormal is my favorite, but from time-to-time, I like to step out of my comfort zone and give other genres a try and boy am I glad I did with this story.

I had the privilege to be able to sit down with this author and talk with him at Once Upon A Book Author Signing 2017. I have a real fascination with meeting new to me authors and learning about their style of writing and the genres they

I’m a big fan of the genre of detective thrillers in general—especially those by the likes of Giles Blunt, Geoffrey Homes, and Arthur Lyons. And nowadays, Donald Levin. Now that I’ve read all four novels in Levin’s series of Martin Preuss Mysteries, so far, in this one I felt like I was working alongside the detective myself, as I was reading. In The Forgotten Child (the fourth in the series) it’s gotten to where, as I read along, I felt myself hoping we’ll find the “forgotten child” together so ...more

Through all of the Preuss mystery novels, Levin writes honestly and convincingly about the redemptive love between a parent and a beloved child, in this instance, a child whose severe disabilities would cause most to underestimate his capacity to inspire others, to radiate feelings of peace, tranquility and unconditional love to all who touch his life and to ultimately provide the motivation for his father to be an agent of change in a world that desperately needs the salvation of spirit that Pr ...more

The Forgotten Child is the newest Martin Preuss book by Michigan author Donald Levin. To date I have thoroughly enjoyed Mr. Levin's books. This one, however, did not quite match up to the others. Perhaps it is because I recently read another one of his books and I needed a longer break in between. Perhaps I felt rushed because of the holiday season and had lots of other things to do. Because there is so much going on in this book I felt like it didn't move as quickly as the others. It also did n ...more

I am so glad I was chosen to receive this Goodreads book.
From the very first paragraph, I knew I would enjoy it.
The main character, Martin Preuss, has the same ideas on many things that I have.
It is refreshing to read a book in which the author does not glorify alcohol as being necessary for solving cases.
The author did not find it necessary for the characters speech to be filled with curse words as if their vocabulary was somehow limited nor to dumb down their thoughts.
The style, language and

I finished this book last night and slept on what to say for a review. I also read others' reviews, and agree wholeheartedly with a common thread running through: the wonderful character development of the principal of the book, Martin Preuss. Dr. Levin's storylines are always interesting and well-told; however, in prior books in this series we wonder if Martin sees in himself what we see as readers. In this book we are allowed to peer into how Martin sees himself. It adds an entirely new and in ...more
