Ruth Glick (born 1942) is a best-selling author of healthy cookbooks and has also written dozens of romantic suspense romance novels under the pen name Rebecca York.

Ruth earned a B.A. in American Thought and Civilization from George Washington University and an M.A. in American Studies from the University of Maryland. Although she always wanted to become a writer, Glick was convinced that her lack of spelling skills meant that her goal was unattainable. As a stay-at-home mother, she took a community college course to help her choose a career. The course made it very clear that writing was her primary interest. Glick began writing articles for newspapers and magazines, but after several years decided to try writing fiction. Her first book, a kids' science fiction book, was finally purchased by Scholastic Inc..

Since then, Glick has become a highly successful author of over 50 romantic suspense and paranormal novels. Many of her novels are published under the Harlequin Intrigue line, and in June 2003, she became one of the first authors published under Berkley's new Sensation imprint. Before 1997, she often collaborated with Eileen Buckholtz and Kathryn Jenson.

Glick also is a highly regarded author of cookbooks focusing on healthy eating. She sometimes hires trained chefs to test the recipes that she creates, and makes sure that every recipe is tested at least three times before it appears in one of her cookbooks.

Glick is the head of the Columbia Writers Workshop. She and her husband, Norman Glick, live in Columbia, Maryland, where Ruth collects rocks, and enjoys cooking, walking, reading, gardening, travel, and Mozart operas. They have two grown children, Elissa and Ethan, and two grandsons (Jesse and Leo).

I received a free copy via Netgalley in exchange for a honest review.

This was a real disappointment.
I understand that this is the first story in a series of 3 but it lacks depth with the ending feeling rushed.
There is no real ending with so many unanswered questions trying to force you to read the next in the series.

Gage is running security for a lab, when he gets caught in an explosion. Next thing he knows, he's waking up in a hospital where he's held against his will. He manages to escape and make his way home - only to find that he's been framed for murder, and his wife Lily thinks that he's a killer. In addition, he's developed some very strange psychic powers. Now he has to clear his name, find out what sort of experiments the lab was running that could have affected his brain in such a way - and repair his relationship with Lily.

It's not very often that I find a Rebecca York book that I don't really like. I enjoyed her 43 Light Street series a lot, and was hoping that this one would be as good as any of those books, but it really didn't deliver. It's a shame and a surprise, because it has so many of the things I like in a book - plenty of suspense, a crime to solve, a hero who's unfairly accused, a hint of the paranormal - and yet it somehow felt both emotionally flat and sloppily written. I've read this twice now, and unless I missed something, nothing was properly wrapped up in the end. We don't know exactly how Gage got his powers. We don't know if they're permanent. We don't know what happened to Bray.

In addition, it really bothered me that Lily automatically assumed the worst about Gage. I'm not married, but I cannot imagine marrying someone who I had so little faith in. If my husband walked in the door and said, "Honey, I know the news is saying I killed a guy, but I didn't, I've been framed," I'd say, "Okay. I believe you. Now, how do we fix it?" How can you marry a man and then not trust him?

I know York is better than this, but Chain Reaction was a big disappointment. 2 stars.

After being exposed to vapors that leave him with a strange new power, Gage is now on the run, trying to clear his name and win his wife back in this thrillingly mind blowing paranormal romantic suspense. Gage and Lily are strong characters that captivate readers with their story as Lily tries to determine if her husband is really crazed and dangerous. The romance sizzled with chemistry and the passion is quite heated but this relationship is on the skids if Gage doesn’t find a way to clear his name to the world and to Lily which keeps quite a bit of emotional turmoil flowing from the pages. Readers can relate to the characters and understand their motivations in what they do and how they go about it, although they find themselves having a negative reaction to Lily at first, but they start warming up to her soon enough.

The plots is faced paced and full of adrenaline pumping suspense, exciting danger and surprising twists which keeps readers on the edge of their seat while the audacity of what happened blows readers minds along the way. Some of the overall plot questions and events are in the other two books of this series but readers can easily understand what is happening and they will definitely want more.

Original storyline and great characters but just no clear cut ending!

Gage began his own security company and is a bit of a mad inventor. but to get his business off the ground he has been seriously neglecting his wife. One he never felt he was good enough for because she comes from serious money.

Lily made it perfectly plain to her family and Gage that she didn't care for money over love. But when Gage is hurt in an accident and then shipped off to the local mental health facility she doesn't know what to make of it. She has been told he is now violent, dangerous even to her. but what is the true story?

My only real grumble with this story was how quickly Lily seemed to be sucked into the idea that Gage was dangerous. I know he was affected by chemicals but she hadn't even seen him after the incident - she was only going on hearsay! Dr. Morton is a total smarmy asswipe that I would never tire of smacking in the face!

I loved the partnership between the detectives who get involved in the investigation - Randall McClellan and Richard Francis. I was also brought to tears by them - dammit!

Gage was totally McGuyvering himself out of the situation - he had gadgets for most situations and hideyholes everywhere!

Brayden's story is told in book 2 by Ann Voss Peterson and there is a third book to come by Patricia Rosemoor.

This is a voluntary review of an advanced copy.

The three book set sounded pretty interesting as you need to read all three to find out the overall plot as it is revealed over the course of reading all three. Each book has its own romance and this book is Gage and Lily, who are already a married couple.

Gage and Lily are at a rough patch in their marriage and having Gage accused of murder and being held in a psych ward doesn't help!

The action is non-stop as Gage tries to clear his name and get to the bottom of the explosion in Lab 7 and try to find out what Project Cypress is all about. Lots of chases, near misses, and new psychic abilities for Gage.

Rand, the copy, is in the second book and Bray is in the third book. Can't wait to hear what happened to Bray and the conclusion of the person behind this - book 1 has really given me a taste of what is to come and I look forward to the following books.

Gage is ex special forces and opened up a security company with his buddy. They are guarding a facility that has a contract with department of defense. An alarm goes off and Gage rushes in when an explosion goes off. He wakes up in a hospital, tied down. No one will tell him anything and he somehow escapes. Lily his wife is a chef and was arguing with Gage when the alarm went off. They won’t let her in to see him because they claim he is violent. Now Gage is accused of murder and to prove his innocence he must stay out of jail. Can Gage find out what’s going on and prove he’s no killer?
Fair story. Not a lot of information. Action, mystery and sex. A husband in a insane hospital and a wife who doesn’t believe her husband.

Chain Reaction kicks of this three part series by multiple authors. This book is Rebecca York’s contribution and sets the tone of suspense and intrigue that will ultimately be front and centre of the Security Breach series.

The plot is believable, and the fast-paced storyline keeps the reader engrossed throughout the entire story. I enjoyed the originality and the character portrayals, which were well developed and captivating. With the underlying paranormal element, this story had everything I wanted in an easy to follow, entertaining and quick read.

With Critical Exposure (book 2) by Ann Voss Peterson and Triggered Response (book 3) by Patricia Rosemoor, next on my list, I’m sure there’s more action and intrigue to come!

Gage Darnell is part owner of a security company working for Cranesbrook Defense. After an accident at the facility that exposes Gage to a toxic gas he wakes up restrained in a mental facility. He manages to escape but is being hunted for a murder that occurred during his escape.

This book falls into the paranormal category, not my usual genre. I did enjoy it and was ready to give it 4*, until the end. I felt like it wrapped up way too fast. It was anti climatic, everything wrapped up in a neat bow in way too few pages. It did keep me entertained enough to consider reading the next book in the series. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.

Gage thought that the project at Cranesbrook defense contractors would help his security company hit the big time. Instead he finds he's neglecting his wife Lily and their marriage seems to be rocky. That's when things to go hell in a hand basket with an explosion in a restricted lab at the facility.
Now Gage seems to have been imbued with paranormal skills and he's also a suspect in the explosion as far as the local police is concerned. How is he going to convince the world, and especially his wife that he's innocent.
Superb read!

Great book. Great story flow. Fast-paced suspense. As many twists and turns as your heart desires. Great character development.

There was a little drawback when Lily Darnell believed a person over the phone over her husband of years. That felt very contrived, but as the story unfolded I guess it was necessary. That said, the characters are believable and the premise is very believable.

If you like suspense/action/one-man-wars (actually it is man+woman-war against the mega corporate giant with top secret government contract, then you'll love this book.

Five of five stars.

If you are into intense heart stopping suspense this is the book for you. It starts off with a bang, literally. Gage had hopes this job would be one that put his security firm on solid ground. Instead he's framed for murder. Twice. His newly acquired abilities helps him maneuver through the circumstances he finds himself in. This twisted tale had me holding my breathe in places. I truly enjoyed this book.

York's books usually have an exciting intensity with characters having unusual paranormal abilities. This one lacked intensity and took me a bit to get into the story. The beginning couple of chapters were a little confusing, it felt like I missed a prequel book. This is the start of a trilogy but not sure I want to continue, maybe the contributing authors will add the zing that's missing. Copy received through Netgalley.

This was fantastic and I loved that the story focused on a married couple and that the couple was having relationship issues that most couples can relate to from the very start of the story. The typical romance starts with falling into a new love. Then, you have your second change love where there’s usually a gap in time and a reconnect with some negative parting to overcome. I just don’t see a lot of stories that deal with people who are married and dealing with the daily stress of life and the toll it takes on a relationship. That this one did made for an even better story as it gave it depth and allowed for the emotional connection to be felt by the reader so that the action had a greater potential for more grave consequences.

This is the first book in a trio of books and I find it interesting that each of the other books will be written by other authors. I am definitely going to read them. This book was action-packed with equal emotion wrung from the reader. The dialogue flowed naturally and I found that the responses to situations were plausible enough that it didn’t detract from the story.

It's currently on Kindle Unlimited, so if you take part in the KU program I would definitely give this one a shot.
Thank you to NetGalley and Rebecca York for giving me the opportunity to read this story and share my honest thoughts and opinions with others.

Gage and Brayden have a security company and they are determined to make it a success. That's why when man power on the job of one of their biggest clients became an issue, they pitched in and worked the extra hours necessary. This caused a strain on his marriage. On the day he was supposed to go home for some couple time with his wife, there's an accident at the client's lab. Gage gets hurt and wakes up in a mental hospital. He can't get any straight answers from the doctor so he escapes and tries to get home to his wife.

Lily is upset with Gage for working so much won't be home for the weekend that they had planned for them to try to reconnect. While he is telling her that he can't make it home, she hears the alarm in the background indicating that something is wrong at Gage's work site. He doesn't have time to explain what is going on before he hangs up. She then goes from being upset to being worried. When she finds out Gage has been hurt, she goes to the hospital to try to see him but can't. When she finally hears from the doctor, it is to find out that Gage has escaped and is wanted for murder. Can she trust him if he shows up at their house or will she have to turn him in to the authorities?

I enjoyed the book Chain Reaction by Rebecca York. It was very intense with a very edge of your seat type of drama. If you like constant action and some very interesting twists I think you should give this book and this author a try. It had a little bit of everything from murder mystery, to paranormal activity, to crime drama to thriller and let's not forget a dose of romance. I think you will find that Ms. York is worth your time.

well, I can´t say much about this book. A security guard who gets framed for murders he didn´t commit and his way to find the love he and his wife used to share.

I read it in Swedish and the translation sucked. Big time. Too bad because I had seen in other reviews here on Goodreads that people actually enjoyed it.

Well, well...

You can´t love´em all!

I enjoyed this book a lot. Again the Harlequin lines are blurring. This is an Intrigue with paranormal undertones. This book is in a three book series called Security Breach. I will have to find the other two!
