Thomas “Cuss” Layne has never wanted for anything, except the beautiful girl he saved so long ago. But she’s a rich girl, and he’s a biker. For years, he hasn’t had a glimpse of her. Still, he's never been able to get her out of his mind. When her life’s in danger, he rides to her rescue once again. This time, he’s determined to do what he should’ve done long ago—make her his, in every possible way.
Tiffany Hamilton has never gotten over the bad boy with the sapphire eyes and midnight hair, the boy who once saved her. She wants him--a touch, a taste--but he’s never wanted anything to do with her. It’s past time to move on. When the sexy biker barges back into her life, saving her yet again and making demands, he makes it impossible to say no to his raw magnetism. She’ll finally have everything she’s dreamed of…but will it be enough?
My favorite so far in the series! Loved Cuss from the moment he came into book 1. Was thrilled the second book was his! I thought the hidden feelings and angst between Cuss and Tiff was so understandable and well flushed out. I usually hate books where one damn honest conversation is all it would take to sort stuff out, but this one was definitely justified at their in ability to just get it out there. These two are young, and when they're around each other both snap back to being teenagers, insecure, unsure, and frankly terrified. Some of the same repetitive phrasing from the first book, but nothing worth dragging down how much I loved this story! Cuss is a bit bullying at times, and Tiff should stand up to him more, but both are well founded and supported by who they are as characters and why they do the stuff they do, so I never found it annoying or jarring.
Whilst Running Hot is the second book in the Hell Ryders MC series, it can easily be enjoyed as a standalone novel. It gives you information that will spoil some of the details of the first book, yet such a thing did not diminish my desire to now go and grab book one. After all, I loved this one so much, and I really need to find out how the story of other characters played out.
Like many romance fans, I enjoyed a good motorcycle club read. The bikes, the leather, and the tattoos – there’s something about it that appeals to us all, that bad boy vibe that leaves us with a sense of danger throughout the story. Oddly enough, this book didn’t quite have the bad boy vibe I’ve come to associate with such reads. It felt more like standard contemporary romance books I have read – and I positively loved this.
Whilst the male lead is a member of a motorcycle club, the characters did not originally meet through the dangers involved in club life. No, these characters knew each other before he joined the club. They had a history, a past that they could build upon, and I positively loved this. We still get to see the usual elements involved in motorcycle club reads, but it’s secondary to the wonderful relationship we get to see between the two. The motorcycle club takes a backseat, so much so that at times you forget this isn’t just your everyday contemporary romance story. It really was a refreshing experience, and because of that I loved this one.
It also helps that I positively adored the main characters. They were a wonderful couple, and watching their relationship blossom will leave you with all the feels. They’re both wonderfully complex when it comes to their emotions, the way they feel is beautiful, and the events that play out will leave you pulled in. I can assure you, the story of their love will pull you in deep – so deep that I managed to complete this one in a single sitting, unwilling to put the book down for a single moment.
It really was a refreshing motorcycle club read, one I’d certainly recommend to any fan of the genre. Without a doubt, I’ll be looking into reading more of the author’s work.
He's everything I look for in a book hero; totally alpha, he gets shit DONE, and he goes above and beyond to protect/take care of his woman. Plus he's hot af, and the sex scenes were delicious. It was a friends to lovers trope and the slow burn was oh so good.
I've devoured both books in this new MC series. New to me author, I will definitely be looking out for the next in series.
This is book two in the Hell Ryders MC series and while it was more violent than book one, the circumstances are understandable. Cuss is an intriguing character because he's an intense hero who has plenty of vulnerabilities. He's protected Tiffany ever since she was sixteen. He feels she's too good for him and doesn't reveal his feelings. The ironic thing is that Tiffany feels the same way. Can they make a lasting couple or are they just running hot? Addictive romance that I couldn't put down!
Running Hot is the second book in the Hell Ryders MC series, it can easily be enjoyed as a standalone novel. Thomas "Cuss" Layne has been in love with Tiffany for evert it seems. She needs help and always told him she would call him if needed but she couldn’t do it. Her father does instead and Cuss knows if her father is calling she is in some deep trouble.
The story is great as the two are trying their best to let the other know how much they care but at times Cuss couldn’t say the words and she couldn’t see what was right in front of her at times.
This story was good in its own way, but not as good as the first book in my opinion. There was a lot of miscommunication between the two main characters and the maturity level was juvenile (my opinion only).
Thomas “Cuss” Layne and Tiffany Hamilton have been wanting each other for seven years. Thomas was biding his time and Tiffany truly believed that Thomas only wanted to be friends. There was a lot of going back and forth between the two and thank God when they finally hook up! There was so much drama and miscommunication I almost felt bad for the two. How can two lovers finally try and get their HEA when the odds are against them?
Overall, this wasn’t a bad read and I do look forward to reading more from this author.

In Running Hot we finally get the story of what we got to see glimpses of in the first book, Running Wild. Cuss and Tiffany. A friends to lovers story. Cuss the bad boy biker thinking he's not good enough for the rich girl.
For me there was a bit too much unnecessary drama because of miscommunication and Tiffany being completely blind to what was happening. But after a long bumpy road they finally got there in the end. Overall a great MC read and if you enjoyed the first book you definitely should read this one.
Completely swept away by Thomas. Not gonna lie, I loved him hard and his obsessive overprotective attentive way he has always taken care of/looked out for Tiffany.
Friends to lovers was a great premise for these two, i loved every frisson page between them.
Strong and slow building storyline, Running Hot was a great MC read.
As soon as Tiffany stumbled into Thomas' life in school, he knew she was special. He's always had a sweet spot for her and always came to her rescue when she needed it, but he never thought he was good enough for her. Or at least let her live her life, until her rich daddy tries to hire Thomas "Cuss" to take care Tiffany's stalker. Now he's decided to never let her go.
No man has ever lived up to her high school crush, Thomas. Recently out of a serious relationship, Tiffany finds herself being stalked, until her not so prince charming comes to rescue her.
Cuss is a bit aggressive, especially in his speech and demands but it is a lot tamer that other MC romances.
This is definitely a friends to lover story with a slow building romance and enough heat to ignite the pages.
Thomas "Cuss" Layne has been in love with Tiffany Hamilton for years. But as part of the Hell Ryders MC he's not exactly who Robert Hamilton would pick out for Tiffany.
But when Robert comes to Thomas looking for help dealing with a stalker for Tiffany he agrees right away. Only he's not planning on walking away like Robert wants him to.
As Thomas and Tiffany try to figure out what their "relationship" is they face pressures from her family and Thomas is worried about Tiffany's safety due to an issue with a rival MC, Chained. Do Thomas and Tiffany have a chance at happy ever after with so much in their way?
This was the first book I have read from this author and it won't be my last.
This story is about a bad boy and rich girl who have both had feelings for the other for so many years and they were destined to be together, except that they faced so many obstacles to get to their future.
Thomas wanted to protect Tiffany and he was mad that her dad contacted him and not Tiffany to deal with her stalker. Tiffany has tried to move on from her thoughts of Thomas and found a great guy in Mark but she just couldn't get over her thoughts of Thomas.
The problem for Tiffany was that her parents did not approve of Thomas at all and she was at risk to lose everything if she chose him. For Thomas he wanted to keep Tiffany safe and as a member of a MC that put her in danger which destroyed Thomas.
Yet love has a way of winning and although the ending had me worried I was glad to see how things ended up.
This could probably be read as a standalone, but why would you? It's always, more fun in order! 😘
Content Advisory: There is sex, dirty talk, and cussing. And as Cuss points out himself, "They are bikers" OW/OM drama possible. (see below)
Motorcycles + Hot Alpha Male + Unrequited Love
Running Hot is the second in this MC Romance series, however, it technically starts many years before and carries through events of book #01. Cuss and Tiff have been skirting around their attraction for one another since they met in grade school. There are many situations and circumstances that bring them together as well as push them apart. Both have the courage to challenge the roles society dictates, but lack confidence to believe in their self worth.
They are walking, talking oxymorons!
One still might find issue with the other man/women drama, even taking all these factors into account. . I found it to be more a part of the plot that carries the story forward rather than a blight on their character, but all might not agree.
Thomas “Cuss” Layne grew up on the proverbial Opposite Side of the Tracks. He knew the heroine was his the moment he first sees her, and makes it his mission to always watch out for her, despite feeling unworthy. He even does jail time over it.
Tiffany “Tiff” Hamilton was several grades below Cuss, and from a family of social climbers who put money and status above all else. Going as far as to turn a blind eye to attempted rape because the male in question was from a family of influence in their superficial lives. These same poor excuses for parents don't have a problem calling on Cuss to be their muscle to get Tiff out of difficult situations. Only to turn around and practically spit on him as less than and unworthy of their presence. They disgusted me, and make me nauseous just mentioning them!
There is a lot of action outside the two main characters relationship, as you get pre-book one drama, the drama of book one, the things that go down in this book, plus a lot of set-up for book 3. There is still a lot of ups and downs angst for those that like the feels roller coasters. The constant poor or sheer lack of communication was a bit much for me, but to each their own. I loved Cuss in the first one, so I think I was just expecting more from him. There are currently still 2 more Hell Ryders stories out in audio to go, Dodge and Ripper. I look forward to the listens yet to come. I still really want to hear a Ty and Tina book. 🤞
J.L. Sheppard writes a good M.C. story. The secondary characters are the best.
This is my first listen by Dawson McBride. His gravely voice really works for a gritty M.C. series.
I listened @ 1.15 speed. Original speed seemed too slow to me. Don't be afraid to experiment.
I love this author more and more I so would one click anything this author writes. If there's a book four in this series I would do whatever I have to do to get that book including selling my soul. Thomas is always saving Tiffany her very own hero. It started at the drive-in when she was on this date with this guy who was trying to rape her, Thomas hears her screaming sweep into the rescue, the next time her tire messes up and he fixes it up for him without any charge, the next someone slips her a drink without something special in and Thomas to the rescue. This book is full of chills and feels and there is so much action and love in this story it overfills. I love MC books there my absolutely favorite and I'm more picky about them then my shoes but these books right here have quickly become one of my favorite series and this author has become one of my top 5 favorite authors. This series is a must-read.
My Review of Running Hot (Hell Ryders MC #2) by J.L. Sheppard My Rating 3.5 Stars Friends to lover’s kind of story. Except someone needs to let Tiff in on what’s going on, as she is a bit naïve to why Thomas “Cuss” Layne is going all out for her. Cuss and Tiff, have a push/pull relationship that is really all about how they really feel towards one another. I enjoyed their banter, and there were times where, honestly I wanted to whack Tiffany upside the head and tell her to clue in. This is also why the authors writing was so well done because she had me engaged and cheering these characters on! I have really loved this series and can’t wait to see what she has in store for us next! ** I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of his book in exchange for an honest review from Author **
This is what I love about new authors ( new for me), how then male you feel and live through the pages in a book. And after this story? My blood is running hot! I loved the story of Thomas and Tiffany, I must say that I didn't read the first book but I'll definitely read. I'm a lover of MC novels, they are one of my favorite stories. A dirty and strong talker and his lady. I'm so excited to read more about this author, she gave me drama, a very good plot( I loved! ) and the twists. It was so good to read this book, I will say it was a friends to lovers; they met before Until Tiffany's father needed Thomas help. It was a slow burning romance but the chemistry was super hot! Seriously where were you all my reader life? So I can't to read more of this and go to book one. I need that story too
First off this is a new to me author that after reading this one I now adore her writing style. She gives a story in the genre that with the characters doing the pulling, they weave their web around you. This centered around Thomas and Tiffany. There were others in this too but these two are the ones who capture you. When you see Thomas and he has his soul barred so to speak before the father comes along with his request you know he is too hard on himself for starters. Now that he also owns you the reader you are along for the ride on this with him. She is one female that knows how to stand by her feelings and love she has when crap hits. This will truly be one romance beside being hot as the title says will also deeply satisfy.
Audio book review Book 2 in the series. jL Sheppard know how to write a hot story , her characters are well written. The story will have you glued to your ear phones to the end .
Heroine is Tiffany ( Tiff ). Hero is Thomas .
Both Tiffany and Thomas met in high school , they both were attracted to each other, only thing is Thomas thought he wasn’t good enough. Thomas came from the side of town that people didn’t want anything to do with each other . Years later Tiffany father goes to Thomas asking for Thomas help protecting Tiffany. Tiffany’s ex is harassing her and the father knows that Tiffany will be saved by Thomas . Grab it and see will Tiffany be saved and will Thomas see himself as worthy of Tiffany
Dawson performance was great . His voice was strong, clear and smooth
Eight years later all it took was the word that she was in trouble and that it was bad and he was there again to protect her. There was no question it was his job to protect her, she was His. This story is a slow burn. It isn't an instant gratification romance and I love it. The communication between these two had me pulling out my hair but the story was well done with plenty of suspense and tense moments that made me hold my breath other times loose it completely.
I love this author and what she brings to life for me in her characters and stories. They are always a joy to read and it is refreshing that the passion isn't the story it's the people. Much is given and much is returned.
Book 2 of this Hot MC Romance. Cuss (Thomas) is the kid from the wrong side of the track and now MC Member. He's always been in love with his baby girl- Tiffany . Now years later once again Cuss gets to save Tiff and when she comes home for good all beats are off.
A hot book with great alpha bikers who are protective as they are tough . Cuss never thought he was the right guy for the rich girl Tiff but hes perfect- strong and protective. These two may have there problems but they are the perfect couple. Looking forward to more books from this author. If you don't usually read MC try this series. Lisa
Running Hot is book 2 in the Hell Ryders MC Series and can be read as a standalone. But if you are anything like me when it comes to the MC's you will want to read book 1 Running Wild first. Like Running Wild, JL Sheppard had me hooked from the very beginning of Running Hot. I devoured this book in only a handful of hours.
The storyline is a strong one that builds and builds as the book keeps on going. Thomas has loved Tiffany a lifetime, while he comes from the wrong side of the track and is a rough and tough biker. She comes from money and is expected to find a man who would fit into her world.
These two characters had me loving them one minute and the next wanting to smack the crap out of them. But what a rollercoaster this book was for these characters to find their way.
Can't wait to see what JL Sheppard brings to the table next.
First thing you should know I'm not much of a MC fan, I can read them but they don't hold much interest. With that being said I enjoyed reading Tiffany and Thomas story. Thomas the tough biker has always loved Tiffany, but didn't think he was good enough. Tiffany the rich girl who seems to always need rescuing, doesn't the Thomas sees her as more than a friend. When they finally let go they create a wonderful story. It has all the MC drama but very tender romance. Nicely written and the dual POVs flow great together.
Running Hot is book two in J.L. Sheppard’s Hell Ryders MC series.
I loved this story between Thomas “Cuss” Layne (the bad boy from the wring side) and Tiffany Hamilton (rich girl from the right side).
They have both wanted each other for the past seven years, but neither of them thought they could have what they always wanted…..each other. Their relationship is push/pull at its finest! They both give and take…love and fight…hate and love. Can the bad boy and rich girl get the HEA they want? Grab this book and find out for yourself!
I liked the characters; the story line flowed, as well as the little glimpses of Allie and Trigger.
I enjoyed this book. I really enjoyed the first one, so I couldn't wait to get my hands on this one. For me, it was a little slow going in the beginning, but I do enjoy an intense build up of a relationship, it makes it that much better when the main characters finally get their act together. Thomas "Cuss" was swoon worthy and Tiffany was a little annoying with how blind she was. Normally I'd understand a heroine and her hesitation but Cuss' actions spoke louder than words and she just refused to see. I'm a sucker for an a HEA, and these two get it in a big way. So if you're into an intense build up of sexual tension you will enjoy this book.
"Cuss" has waited seven years for his baby girl! Thought he would never have his girl, but when the father of his girl comes to him to for help,he wasted no time to get her! Tiff thought she could move on and go to college and forget it about about the boy that took heart all those years ago. But she found out it wouldn't work, because she would love only him. When she got into a bad situation he was there to take care of her, like always he was her hero! That would bring them back together and she would from that moment be his baby girl. I love the story and the little heart breaks in there. And I love that they both have loved each other for eight years and got there Happy ever after!
This is a very good book. The way the author writes these stories is amazing. The characters are well written and very believable. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
Running Hot (Hell Ryders MC #2) was a great read by J.L. Sheppard. Thomas has always wanted Tiffany since he save her a long time ago. Unfortunately he is a biker and she is just a rich girl. He comes into her life to save her again when she is in danger and he is determined to make her his. I really enjoyed reading Tiffany and Thomas’s story and can’t wait to read more by J.L. Sheppard.
One of my favorite things about this novel is you finally get the back story of Thomas "Cuss" and Tiffany. In the first book you get to see the longing for each other but you don't realize it's been going on for close to 8 years. Another one of my favorite things is how Thomas basically worships her but she is completely oblivious to everything he does. You can obviously tell that they love each other but they are both too scared to admit. It's a slow build up for these two. Thomas tries his best to win her over with his friends however his jealousy at times threatens to destroy everything he's worked to get them together. I'm not sure I understand his rough side though. He can be verbally abusing that is kind of scary when he gets furious. I guess it makes sense with his name but it's like a slap to the face. Still a good strong storyline that holds you captive with each new drama.
Love Cuss! This is a great MC story about finally taking what you want. Tiff came off a little naive at times, and I just wanted to say if you can't see what's in front of you I'll take him! Great book for anyone who loves MC reads. I love how badass these men are! Also not gonna lie but I love, love, LOVE that cover!! Definitely check this one out!
