Beating the French

Rate this book
The French Defence is a perennial favourite with players of all temperaments. Gary Lane has had a great deal of experience of meeting the French in both national and international competitions, and in this book he examines his play and recommends a clear repertoire for beating the French, whether Black opts for a solid or active approach. The solution offered is the Advance Variation which for years has been a favourite of Evgeny Scheshnikov, and more recently Viswanathan Anand and Nigel Short. By using the methods discovered by these and other grandmasters, White can obtain dangerous attacking chances thus limiting Black's counterplay.
