Last Exit to Montauk think Less Than Zero minus the drugs and sleaze, but with that same candor, the same "inside your head" walk through another person's life, meets the Outsiders, with it's personable characters and the hint of social awkwardness.  It's a love story set in Long Island during the 1980's.  Those iconic eighties, with the big hair, the boat shoes, MTV, and corded phones, and Vega draws it back into focus with exquisite detail.  He draws it up with both eyes open, without a hint o ...more

I try to always read reviews once I have my review written, so I am going back in and adding this in my review. One reviewer said "This book was okay. I just felt that the book was a bit too long." I have NEVER EVER in my life read a book that I thought was too long. This book is 388 pages. No way on earth is that TOO LONG! But anyways..

I was hooked on this book not only from the first chapter, but before that, the description. I am a sucker for high school/first romance books, and romance book

The description the author gave this book was right up my alley. Anybody who knows me, knows I’m a sucker for high school / first love romances.

I felt like this plot and story line was a page out of a Nicholas Sparks playbook. I love Nicholas Sparks!

I started the first chapter, and holy-hell I was hooked. The way he described his feelings in that supermarket made me feel every emotion going through him when he saw ‘My B
Last Exit to Montauk was an amazing, beautiful, and emotional read! Remember your first love and how it felt? This book will definitely bring those memories back.

He first fell for “his blonde” in a grocery store smelling fruit in the summer of 1987. Fast forward many years later, and he finds himself in a grocery store noticing a blonde who could be his blonde’s twin. He’s thrown back into the memories and those emotions he felt all those years ago, and this begins one of the most magical love

This book made me cry - in a good way - which hasn't happened in a long time. It's a beautiful story about two seventeen-year-olds who attend the same school but didn't really know each other until they met in a store during the summer. The author takes the reader on a journey as their friendship develops over a fun-filled summer and eventually blossoms into an all-consuming love. The characters are all so well developed and memorable I felt like I really knew them - they certainly became my fri ...more

Sweet memories

A wonderful story of sweet young love that flooded me with memories of the 80s. It was heartwarming to watch the friendships - old and new - unfold as the characters brought out the best in each other, with nothing but hopes, love and dreams in their hearts and their future. I laughed, and I cried. Well done.

I am currently crying. I feel in love with B. I know that i'd be blessed if i ever found something B and the narrator had. The story explored first love and tragedy. I couldn't fathom the feeling because i have yet to be lucky but this struck me. May everyone find a relationship like these two kids who really truly loved each other until they couldn't live.

I loved this story! Right away it just had a certain feel to it. I just felt comfortable, like I was settling in with an old friend telling me a story. The narrative style POV made it all that much better.

I think this is a story all can relate to. The story of first love. And, set in a simpler time, I couldn't help but yearn for my childhood as I read. This was a beautifully written story, one you don't want to miss, especially if you came of age in the 80's!

This book took me back to my teenage years! I enjoyed reconnecting with my youth through all the 80's references. The story is a heart-wrenching tale, beautifully written, about the first love of teenagers. The budding romance is so authentic to real-life teen experiences, but with a hard dose of reality thrown into the mix. I don't want to give anything away, but Phillip Vega has masterfully created a story that both teen and adult readers will become lost in. Highly recommended!

What an awesome read that has you going through so many emotions while bringing back memories of your teenage yrs. I could relate to so many parts in this story of a first love during the summer months. I laughed, I got angry and I cried. I could have been in the same room as the characters, as they're so well written I could pic them perfectly in my mind. It could have been my life story during some of the book as I went through some of the same events in my youth

This book had me from the first page and by the end, I was an emotional wreck. In 1987 a young man meets a girl called B. What follows is a sweet story of first love set in the 80’s. The story is told entirely from the boy’s (we never learn his name) point of view and is refreshingly innocent and at the same time very real.
It’s a coming of age story of first love that is beautifully told. Vega is a talented writer who doesn’t put a foot wrong. The main characters are both real and sympathetic.

DNF. Too much inner dialogue between actual dialogue and action. Its like Kevin from the Wonder Years follows up every two lines with narration.

Hi everyone! Thanks for stopping by on this beautiful day for another book review. Today I have the pleasure of reviewing Last Exit to Montauk by Phillip Vega. I was gifted this book for my unbiased review. So let’s begin.

First, the opening is very interesting. The book is written in first person. We meet our main character and get inside of his head. There is an instant connection to what he is seeing and feeling. The character is definitely strolling down memory lane and it’s fun to watch. The

Found myself talking to family and friends about this book and recommending it for their teens and themselves. Such a great approach to young love, life in the 80's, family, and challenges that young people faced then and continue to face today. This book touched on grief, drugs, first love, insecurity, friendship. You won't want to put it down. Just a good read overall.

Suddenly, he had a publishing contract, and in the midst of the vortex of marketing, analytics, refining, and continuing to write, he discovered what he defines as his true calling, his passion. He is now fully and happily immersed in the whirlwind that is the publishing industry, even as he diligent ...more
