This is my first book by this author and I definitely will be checking out the rest of the series.

Isabelle the sister of the POTUS is getting threatening letters from sources unknown so Nick Marino, a secret service agent on the president protective detail is sent to guard her as they try to discover the person(s) behind the threats.

I really enjoyed this because it was well paced, it was a relatively short book but it never felt rushed. I also love the Marino/dwyer family, I liked the

I enjoy Kathryn Shay as I like the grittier and more realistic look at the Secret Service and this is exactly what you get in this book.

Nick is the agent in charge of the protection for the president’s sister and he takes his job seriously, there is no room for mistakes, for errors, or for second guessing that he acted out of emotion instead of training and experience.

And then he meets Isabelle, and he struggles with being in charge of her protection and wa

“Sweetheart, I’m not going to brood or play the guilt card. I did this…we did this…because we wanted to, but it was and will stay this one time.”

“It’s for the best, sweetheart. We don’t have a future and constant contact is too much for either of us to handle.”
I am afraid I dnf'd at 28%. Nobody seemed to have the slightest amount of common sense - the President's sister expected the man sent to 'protect' her to pretend he was the joiner and to stay at a B&B down the road. Come ON folks!! Get real. She's not an idiot! Even worse, the Agent in Charge allowed her to dictate the conditions and thereby put her in even more danger.

I thought this might be a fun read, but I suspected it was all going to pot when on the first page I read:

Nick Marino is a secret service agent and is sent to guard the president’s younger sister after she has received some death threats.
The sister, Isabelle Barton is a widow with twin sons, and she doesn’t want a high profile protection unit. So Nick and some other family members are assigned to guard her, while they build a deck and his cousin Whitney acts as summer ‘nanny’ for the boys. But of course, the locals ask questions and eventually Isabelle lies that she’s dating Nick.

WHAT AN EXPLOSIVE START to a new, and AWESOME SERIES! I loved every minute of this story, and couldn't turn the pages quickly enough, so I devoured it in a matter of a couple of hours. Nick Marino is the top dog on POTUS's Secret Service detail, but he's temporarily sent to upstate New York to guard the President's sister, Isabelle Barton, he knows there's no room for mistakes or distractions. She's been getting threatening notes, and he needs to reveal who is behind them asap. But what Nick NEV ...more

A fun, unique, romance, featuring the younger sister of the POTUS and a secret service agent. <- I.was.hooked.

The romance between Nick and Isabelle isn't easy. She's a fighter, that's for sure. She's tough and independent, as she has to be as a widow with children. Nick is patient and kind. He's sweet and protective. I couldn't help but cheer for him. Isabelle and Nick have a beautiful, mature romance, dipped in suspense.

I really enjoyed Above and Beyond. The characters were fun and witty. I'm

An action\romance that will hold your interest from beginning to end. The head of the Secret Service Presidential Protection Detail is requested, by the President, to temporarily protect his widowed sister after she receives multiple threats. As he takes control a mutual attraction occurs. While attempting to stay true to his mission his heart is lost. The threat is located and neutralized but career decisions must still be made.

I enjoyed this book and have rated it 4 stars. I look forward to r

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Above and Beyond. It was filled with fun and witty characters. I loved the dynamics set up of the two characters families, especially the Marino family -- such a loving and close-knit family. The scenes of the interaction between the family members were some of the highlights of the book for me.

I also loved that the plot was simple and easy to follow. To me the best stuff happened because of the characters -- their fears, their actions, their feelings, etc. I loved
It was rather like a fairytale, a sweet love story. No magic etc., but the view like Secret Service etc. works wasn't much realistic, I think.

But, I have a nice time. I don't expect of such novels a real, serious vision of the world.

There wasn't much funny, but I was entertained thanks to the alpha hero who fought with the bad guys ;-)

Nonetheless, I admit, I am not planning to read any other Kathryn Shay's book in the near future. I like much, much more Kristan Higgins' (and a few other writer's

Nick Marino has one objective, the director position with the Secret Service. This has been his goal and he has always moved his career into that path that would lead him there. Being on POTUS detail puts him in a better position towards that goal, but also puts him in a position in which the President could ask him for a favor. The current favor is “protection detail” for the President’s sister and her two sons. Nothing unusual in that, except that Nick is not a babysitter, and the President’s ...more

This was the first book of Kathryn Shay’s that I’ve read and I really enjoyed it.

It’s that perfect mixture of romance, mystery and suspense.

I really enjoyed that it included the President of the United States as well as the Secret Service. It gives the reader a different perspective.

Written in third person, the story provides all the different points of view from Nick Marino, a secret service agent on the President’s detail, Isabelle Barton, the President’s sister, and even from the President hi

“Suspense with a side of love, 4 stars”

Nick has one goal and one goal only to become a Director of the Secret Service. The closest thing to a family man he is being close to his parents and siblings, otherwise he doesn’t do relationships. They are a conflict of interest with his job. But when he spends a little time with Isabelle the POTUS sister that may change.

Above and Beyond is the first title in the To Serve and Protect series, and features Isabelle and Nick as the hero and heroine. As with all of Ms Shay's work I found this title to be a heartfelt romance, with a great blend of romance, suspense and intrigue.

Isabelle is a widower and single mother to twin boys. She's quite shy and unassuming, but also very headstrong and craves a peaceful existence, which is incredibly difficult when her brother is the President. Nick is a secret service agent, a

A great start for a new series that promises to be another winner for Ms Shay. I started reading her books around 1996, and even now she never ceases to amaze me.
This new series is about a family of men and women dedicated to public service and medicine.
This first book is about Nick Martino, a Special Service Agent in charge of guarding the President. The President's sister is getting threatening notes so he sends his best agent, Nick, to protect her and her sons. Isabelle is a widow that lost

"Isabelle felt like a wet noodle. She was totally drained by the constant tension and mistakes she knew she shouldn’t be making."

This was a free download from an author unknown to me. It is not unusual to be offered book #1 free to attract readers unfamiliar with an author's work, and I liked the scenario and was hoping to have found a new series to read. Unfortunately it felt rather lacklustre from the start, and by 44% not much had improved. Our hero is wooden and our heroine is a bit silly

Nick along with his brother, Gabe and cousin Whitney all pull together to keep bad guys away from Isabelle Baron and her two sons. Above and Beyond is book one in To Serve and Protect series by Kathryn Shay. Wow, what a story. Shay captured me right at the start and I was hooked. I love the story and the characters, both was well developed. This is a great start to a new series. The Marino family knows how to serve and protect. The President’s sister, Isabelle, who is a widow with twins, is being threatened and Nick Marino , who is the top guy on Secret Service.

This is the first in Shay's new series, called Serve and Protect. The Marino siblings are all dedicated to the Secret Service, military, and medicine. Nick Marino, the main agent on the President's Protection Detail, is asked for a personal favor by President Manwaring: to protect his sister and her twin sons after some credible threats reach her.

Isabelle is a young widow and is not inclined to accept the restrictions Nick will place on her. The team has also decided to guard her covertly so tha

Isabella is a strong independent woman and a widower with two twin boys. She has been receiving threatening notes and when her brother, who is the President, finds out protection is arranged.

Nick is a secret service agent who is invested in his career as he would like to be Director of the Secret Service and has no time for relationships or romantic entanglements.

Neither Nick or Isabelle expected a security detail would cause such upheaval in their lives. I thought Nick and Isabelle had great chemistry. I liked both of their characters. I initially thought Isabelle was going to be kind of wimpy, but I loved to see that she had a backbone.

The book was fast paced, and suspenseful. I also enjoyed all of Nick's family having a part in this book. The whole Secret Service aspect was pretty interesting too.

A surprisingly sweet romantic suspense where no one is above suspicion. Handsome secret service agent Nick is hand picked to protect the Presidents sister Isabelle and her children. At first he hates becoming a glorified babysitter but as the danger mounts so does his attraction to his 'target' and he finds himself wanting things he has never considered before. I was asked by the author for an honest review.

Above & Beyond had an interesting plot and the suspense was incorporated well. Nick & Isabelle, as well as their extended families, were likable characters. Groundwork was laid for the future story lines with other family members, but Above & Beyond can be read as a stand alone novel.

There were a few points where transitions seemed abrupt as the point of view shifted from one character to another or where the author skipped days or weeks, but it di

Kathryn Shay writes books about heroes and women who are strong, caring and independent. This first book in a series is about secret service agents, their beliefs and their need to serve their country and the president. This story is about the president's sister and the secret service agents assigned to keep her and her children safe. A great start to a new series. The Marino family only knows how to serve and protect in their occupations. This is the story of Nick, of the secret service, who has been asked to protect the president's sister, Isabelle. Isabelle is a widow and young mother of twins. Nick and Isabelle can not deny the chemistry between them but Nick does not want to risk his career.
