The Handbook on the Gospels is part of the eight-volume Apostolic Handbook Series. The author takes us on a journey of multiple expeditions throughout the ancient Mediterranean world and introduces us to a cast of characters who were instrumental in preserving the story of Jesus. Although the tone is conversational, the scholarship underlying the conversation is robust.
This is one of those reads that you'll want to take your time with. It is so rich and wonderfully written. Brickle's writing evokes such beautiful imagery and offers insightful revelation that will help you study the gospels like you never have before.
This book hand historical insights that I hadn’t considered, which gave a great new light to the gospels. Also, it goes into depth on each writer, which was interesting.
