I don't often track the books I read with Clare on my own Goodreads -- but since I read the entirety of this one aloud in my best Maz Kanata voice, I feel like I deserve some credit.

My daughter loved it. There were some misspelled words, which bothered me. Cute for Star Wars-loving girls.

Book: Star Wars: Tales of Hope and Courage

If you are looking for stories about some of the women of Star Wars, then I highly suggest you pick this one up. While it is not a super detailed account, it is a very nice collection of stories. Plus, the illustrations and interactive elements are a nice touch.
What I really liked about this was it gave us a look into the lives of women from all the Star Wars eras. I think this is what made the book for me. We have the original material for this who like that as well as some of the new material. This mixture allows us to see characters from different time periods and how they handled rather difficult situations that were thrown at them. We see these women handle these hardships through courage, knowledge, and all around human strength. No matter what is thrown at them, they manage to rise to the occasion and overcome the difficult of the world. Many times these difficult are forever going to change their lives and those around them.
The interactive elements and illustrations give us such a visual that makes it feel like you are fighting along with the characters. It makes you feel as if you are in the Star Wars world, which is something that always makes me rate books higher. When you are writing a book, you need to make your reader feel as if they are actually there with the characters. I got that here. I was with the characters fighting for what they believe is right. I was there on their adventures. Now, would I have gotten this experience without the illustrations and interactive features? It’s really difficult to say. Don’t get me wrong, the writing is amazing, but these little visuals help to push the book to the next level.
Overall, I really enjoyed this little collection. I don’t know if there are more out there like this. I know I will read them if I can find them.

Tales of Hope & Courage

This is my second Forces of Destiny book that I have read now and I love this one so much more than the first. It was visually and aesthetically pleasing and the drawing and interactive page flaps were just so gorgeous.
I love the feminist tone of the book and some of the stories in this were ones that I've read before in a different book, but here they were told just so beautifully and I totally am gonna have my kids read this one day in the future.
•The Leia story was one I hadn't read before (I had seen the episode for it like for all of the others though) and it was a cute good starter
•Sabines is one I've read and seen before but it was done so much better here, I love this story and even my mom -who I buddy read this with- agreed that Sabine and Ketsu are totally gay for each other
•Ahsoka... We all know she is my number one love. The best Star Wars character hands down, her design in FOD is so gorgeous and she is just such a phenomenal being
•Padmé is another one I've read before but I loved this rendition. I love her relationship dynamic with Ahsoka and that they pointed out the detail of wanting to spend more time together because they're similar in age
•Jyn, her story was probably the one that felt slowest out of all of them but I did appreciate the message of someone who is very hardened by her experiences, opening up and trusting another. I love Jyn and this made me eager to pick up Rebel Rising
•Rey's is also a bit slow especially seeing it done so many times, but I do like her and find the setting of Jakku to be an interesting one. Also her bond with BB8 is just precious
Overall: obvious five stars. I hope they make more books based off different episodes set up just like this one.

Of course, Star Wars fans should own this book, an anthology of stories about female heroes in all the Star Wars time frames, from Padme to Jyn Erso to Princess Leia.
The stories are thrilling and inspiring, with action, humor, and good triumphing over evil. You know, Star Wars stuff.
As the dad of a daughter, these stories really poke me hard in the emotions. My daughter loves them. They're the kind of stories that will be read and reread a jillion times.
For the younger young-uns, they're suitable for bedtime stories. OK, I'll admit it. They're suitable for bedtime stories for any age.

I picked this up to read to my girls between reads. This book showcases small adventures in the canon timeline of some of our favorite heroines in Star Wars. We discovered that we had read these stories previously, but this was in a different format. This version of the story was in the format of Maz Katana's journal, making her the narrator. This was similar to the book versions that we had read, but this way seemed more engaging due to the details changing slightly and the illustrations being more plentiful. If you have young Star Wars enthusiasts, this one is great!

These are retellings of the animated shorts - one per character, six total: Leia, Sabine, Ahsoka, Padme, Jyn, Rey. Maz is the storyteller so we get a lot of her asides and thoughts on the stories which are delightful. I loved the illustrations, especially the sketchy quality, showing the foundation lines underneath. A nifty callback to the (presumably) hand drawn 2D animation of the shorts. I also feel it encourages readers to draw their own heroes and create their own stories.

3.5 I was hoping this would feature different stories from the Forces of Destiny cartoons. And, while it does give a little background on the characters, this is just another rehash of select cartoon episodes. But I'm giving this a whole extra star because my kid ate it up, despite the old territory.
