This was one of my most-anticipated 2017 reads. It's a post-Civil War book (my current history fascination), the continuation of two books I greatly enjoyed, and by an author I knew I could trust. Those three all sum up to make a pretty solid read, in my humble opinion. ;)

What I loved most... continuing the stories of all of the characters in the former two Ancient Words books was amazing. I loved these characters, wanted to know what had become of them, and was sufficiently satisfied. Ralph's s

I was really looking forward to the conclusion to this series, but something that happened a little less than a third of the way in was just too much for me. Not inappropriate in the sense of sensual details or anything like that, and even though the character justified the act to herself, it was never presented as right, but it still bothered me to the point where I couldn't continue reading.

So, the funny/sad thing is, I actually really liked Melissa, heartily sympathized with her, and badly wa

I have loved this whole series, and this, the third book, definitely wasn't an exception. The first two books focused on the Harpers and the Chandlers. This book focused on Ralph Williams, although a large part was also devoted to George Chandler. Reading it was like coming back to visit an old, treasured friend. I have fallen in love with the characters and it was great to catch up with them and find out what was going on in their lives. This book is not the last in the Ancient Words series, al ...more

This powerful ending to the Ancient World Series held my heart. The Civil War has ended but the raw emotions and damaged towns and countryside remain in upheaval. Men from both sides struggle in finding their place back home and making peace with what they saw on the battlefield. Southern women falsely hope that life will return to normal but those desires are dashed. Slavery is over but it seems the former slaves are still in a prison. Who will help them?
As individuals look to the Bible for co

The 3rd book in the Ancient Words Series by A. M. Heath, this was an amazing book every bit as good as Books 1 & 2. Set immediately after the end of the Civil War when tensions between North & South are still high, it follows multiple relationships simultaneously, seamlessly flowing back & forth between each setting. This is definitely a series where the books need to be read in order to best understand the characters, their history & how that drives a lot of who they have become by this 3rd boo ...more

If you get a chance and you need to make sure you do, this book is a must read. It flows easily with wonderful and unforgettable characters. I have loved each book in this series and this one I have to say is my favorite. The Civil War has become a very interesting topic for me and the author is well versed in the history of this epic part of many of our ancestors. The book starts after the war has ended and we get to see where the characters from previous books in the series are in their journe

Out of all three {thus far – two more are coming!} Ancient Words novels, this one was my favorite – which is saying something, since I really liked the other two, as well. In this third book in the series, A.M. Heath brings satisfactory closure to the storylines of characters who left my heart aching for them in the last book, In the Shadow of Thy Wings.

There are so many things to adore about Out of the Ashes, but just a few of them are:

Out of the Ashes has become one of my favorite books. I was sad to see this series end, but I loved every word of it. AM Heath has given us a wonderful 3 book series with this as the final book. I was thrilled with the way each and every character's circumstances was resolved. It is a definite must read for anyone who likes historical christian fiction! ...more

Out of the Ashes by A.M Heath.

Out of the Ashes is the third book in the Ancient Words Series and one of the best books I've read in along time! I would advise you to read the first two books in this series to learn about who these men are.

Out of the Ashes is about Ralph and Frank, who are home from the Civil War and George is traveling home from the war. Three heroes in one book plus three heroines equals fantastic!!

I intentionally started reading this book very slow because it was so good an

I love picking up the story of George, Ralph and Frank. And seeing what adventures is ahead in their future. They each depend on God to get through their trials and to help them to forgive the past. Love this book and can't wait to read the next one by A.M. Heath! ...more

I received a copy from the author. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

1.  The setting.  I really wanted to address this first because it's one of my favorite parts of this series.  This is a historical fiction novel set during the Civil War and the settings are in both the North and South which makes the dynamic of the novel really interesting.  I loved how the author chose to jump between places and she does such a good job of creating the right kind of atmosphere for each place.  A

I am so excited to say that I have finished reading "Out Of The Ashes" by Anita Health, the third book in the "Ancient Words Series" and I loved it. I strongly recommend reading book1 and 2 in this series before reading "Out Of The Ashes".

"Out Of TheAshes"by A. M, Health is a book about how George, Ralph, Frank and others survive the aftereffects of war. This book has facts of history woven into a GREAT STORY.

There are lessons that the characters learn in this book that readers need to apply t

Picking up after the war has ended, Out of the Ashes continues the story of the Harper family as they pick up the pieces and learn to move on and find healing during the reconstruction.

A.M. Heath does such an exquisite job of capturing characters that feel true-to-life. Through good times and bad, these characters shine, and this book may contain some of my favorites from the series so far. This book introduces a few new main characters that are wonderful additions to the cast started in the pre

I really enjoyed the Ancient Word Series. The first two books were more about the war and Out of the Ashes was after the war. I really began to enjoy these characters in the first two books, so I looked forward to finding out more about them in this third book.
George Chandler and Ralph Williams story was interesting and kept me wondering how it would all end.
The torments after the war on the men that fought was not easy to deal with. They came home without some of their friends and family who

"Out of the Ashes" is the third book in the "Ancient Words" series and to best understand it, you need to read the books in order. "Out of the Ashes" tells the story of the characters' lives after the Civil War is over and how they move on with their lives. It is told in third person from the view points of (in order of first appearance): Frank Harper, George Chandler, Melissa Lowe, Olen Harper, Ralph Williams, and Rose Forrister. This book was well written. I liked the Biblical truths found in ...more

This was a very good after the Civil War book. This showed what it was like for people after the war ended. It shows how the soldiers felt and the women that were left behind felt. I enjoyed the many characters. I enjoyed the small stories that were told throughout the book. I sometimes felt there were almost too many main characters and sometimes had trouble remembering who was who. I would recommend not reading this when you are tired. I look forward to reading the next in the series. I receiv ...more

Icing on the (cranberry) cake

The third book in this series wraps up all the loose ends from the first two. Forgiveness is an overarching theme throughout. The beginnings of the Ku Klux Klan are explored, along with the atrocities they committed and would continue to commit well into the late 1960s. Imagine, a hatred so strong it carries on for a hundred years and still exists for the sole purpose of hatred. So sad. Once again, I have been held captive as Frank discovers his inward courage and Ra

No spoilers if you made it to this one I'm sure you are finishing the series.
A.M. Heath has hit another homerun I loved this book as much if not more than the other two. This just ties everything together not necessarily in the way you THINK it might have happened.
I don't know if all her books can be researched and written as high a quality as these three but I will take my chances. Don't miss this series.

Out of the Ashes brought to life the struggles the beloved characters in A.M. Heath’s Ancient Words series faced following the Civil War. A.M. Heath vivid, descriptive writing of her three dimensional characters was easy to read and follow. I was right in the midst of all the action and conversations with primary and secondary characters. The characters’ difficulties were similar whether in the north or south, as both were striving to recover from the devastation of the war with all the losses—l ...more

This third book in the epic Ancient Words Series follows the beloved characters from the first two books and introduces some new characters as well, all amidst the aftermath of the Civil War. I've been so impressed since Book 1 with the amount of research that was put into these books, taking us onto the battle fields of the war and into the homes of those waiting to hear if their loved ones made it out alive. In Out of the Ashes, we journey with the survivors as they return to their homes, back ...more

This is a fabulous conclusion to this series! I am thrilled with how the author treated the end of the war. Serious issues very relavent to the time are addressed in a very realistic manner.
